Giants-Vikings headed to Monday Night

Giantsairport

We hope the Giants packed some extra clothes for their trip to Minnesota.

After a day filled with travel delays because of a blizzard in Minneapolis, the Giants-Vikings game will be moved to Monday Night, the NFL has confirmed.  Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger was the first to report the possibility Saturday night.

The Giants, stuck in Kansas City for the day, were planning to leave for the game at 8:00 a.m. local time Sunday.  As recently as 7:00 p.m. ET, the league said the game may still go off on time.  It’s possible that continued poor weather and other complications caused the NFL to re-consider that plan.

We are still waiting to hear more details, such as when the game will be played and whether it will be available on television other than in the home markets.  (Historical precedent says it won’t be national.)

Either way, Brett Favre has another day to let that shoulder heal.

UPDATE: Here’s what NFL spokesman Greg Aiello announced on the matter, via Twitter: “Due to severe weather conditions and on the recommendation of Metrodome officials, the Giants-Vikings game will be moved to Monday night. KO time @ Metrodome + TV arrangements will be announced as soon as they are determined.”

Any idea when we’ll know kickoff time?

Snow on the roof a concern? Let me see if I have this right. The Vikings we’re too stupid to build a stadium that could handle snow on the roof?

The Giants should’ve been forced to forfeit.

  4. livenbreathefootball says: Dec 11, 2010 10:21 PM

Let’s hope it is because it would be too dangerous for fans to get to the game, not because the Giants were too stupid to plan ahead or to give Bret Favre another day to heal.

  5. jbl429 says: Dec 11, 2010 10:24 PM

@david7590, are you that desperate to see your Vikes get a win that you’d resort to crying about the Giants having to forfeit? That’s some bush league whining right there.

No. Just no. Can you explain your position? Any historical precedent? Can you give me a valid reason as to why the Giants should have been forced to leave Friday and thereby forfeit a practice, putting them at a disadvantage?

I’ll wait for a brilliant response, I’m sure.

The Giants should’ve been forced to forfeit.

Why? Cuz the Vikes will lose otherwise?

  9. krow101 says: Dec 11, 2010 10:34 PM

“The Giants should’ve been forced to forfeit.”

Yeah, the Giants should forfeit because the Vikings play in a stadium that can’t handle snow. Makes sense. You must be an Eagles fan.

  10. canadianvikingfaniii says: Dec 11, 2010 10:34 PM

Stupid… I hope they don’t make it late. I hate Monday night games, people work and go to school on the weekdays…

  11. gunner1970 says: Dec 11, 2010 10:35 PM

Snow on the roof? Did you even read the article? G-men are stranded in KC fool! Ya see, there is this thing called weather…it’s dumping 2 feet of snow in Minny and surrounding states.

Hopefully it will be televised in all the markets that would have carried it on Sunday.

  12. bigdawg24 says: Dec 11, 2010 10:35 PM

There’s several good places to buy some extra pairs of britches and drawers up by KCI airport.

SMH. Snow delay at a dome. I thought I seen it all.

What’s next they gon’ stop the Super Bowl in Dallas b/c of Lightning?

  14. 4sacroc says: Dec 11, 2010 10:37 PM

All a ploy to get a new stadium deal …

    It ain’t even snowing there.

    Giggity :-)

  15. johnnyballsack says: Dec 11, 2010 10:38 PM

david7590- You are an idiot. Why should the Giants be forced to forfeit? Saturday is the travel day in NFL for Sunday games. All those calling for a forfeit are clueless and have never played a high level sport. Friday is a critical practice day, so the Giants should have had to forfeit that to get to Minny on time? Asking for a forfeit is pathetic and shows no confidence in your abilities or your teams. It is like bragging about getting the highest grade in your class, even though you are the only one in remedial Phys Ed.

  16. meatball13 says: Dec 11, 2010 10:39 PM

So how many fans, stadium workers, etc, will be inconvenienced because of the Giants stupidity? Are the Giants gonna refund the money to the ticket holders who can’t go to the Monday night game?A little common sense would have prevented this situation.Giants=Buffoons!!!

actually, any roof with a significant snow fall is in danger of collapse. Lots and lots of snow is heavy, you stupid moron. People around the twin cites need to pull snow off of their own roofs for the same reason.

  21. importantpftcomment says: Dec 11, 2010 10:47 PM

At the very least, the Giants should be forced to compensate Fox for lost revenue for the game!

  22. 49erman says: Dec 11, 2010 10:48 PM

Forced to forfeit? It’s their fault that Mother Nature dumped a ton of snow on them? Whatever….

  23. johnnyb612 says: Dec 11, 2010 10:49 PM

What a bunch of BS. This is just to give Brett another day to heal. The NFL doesn’t want to lose it’s ratings gift in another 3 weeks.

“The Giants should’ve been forced to forfeit.”

When the league announced the Monday (20 mins before Gregg posted) Night game time they said it was because of Metrodome officials worries that postponed the game, not the Giants. Hence if anything it would have been the Vikes that should have forfeited.
But hey its not like this site is part of NBC Sports and they try to get all the facts before posting, oh wait…

hey guy, did you build the shack you call home? Guess what, the Vikings didn’t build the dome so there goes your argument. Second, if they built it then they would own it and not have a lease issue…agreed!? Good, glad we are on the same page. Third, please think before you post in order to avoid situations such as these.

I’m really glad we have RedZone. No desire to see GB/Detroit in place of the Vikes tomorrow.

@krow101: Snow hasn’t been an issue since the first couple years, but 2 feet of snow + 25 mph winds means they can’t send workers up to clear the snow, meaning risks of tears. It has done fine in snow in lots of cases, but it’s pretty rare to have wind like this in addition to the quantity of snow.

  33. undeadjesus says: Dec 11, 2010 11:06 PM

    <>

This isn’t some little winter dusting of snow, this is a blizzard that’s dumped over 1.5 feet of snow.

And let me see if I have this right: you’re too stupid to know the difference between “we’re” and “were”?

  34. samiratou says: Dec 11, 2010 11:08 PM

Per the Metrodome folks, there’s nothing structurally wrong with the roof, but it wasn’t safe for the workers they had clearing the snow because of the wind. The wind is supposed to be a bit less tomorrow (though it’s supposed to be hella cold), so presumably it will be safer for the workers tomorrow.

  35. sammyvee says: Dec 11, 2010 11:14 PM

The Vikings did not build the stadium, krow101.

  36. gcsuk says: Dec 11, 2010 11:15 PM

    @krow101:
I’m guessing that the concern from the Metrodome officials probably has to do with fans getting to the game. I assume that they want the city to have the roads as clean and as accesible as possible for the safety of the fans.

According to most weather sites, the snow in Minnesota is going to be falling throughout the night. And, judging from fans commenting on other related stories on PFT, Minn. road crews will not even START attempting to clear roads until some time after Midnight.

Metrodome officials made this call. Not the Giants.

Because snow piled on the roof of the Metrodome made the MINNESOTA stadium unsafe, the Giants should forfeit? By far, the most asinine comment of 2010. Must be an Eagles fan.

Snow…in Minnesota…in December??? What are the chances? Nothing about what this town and this organization does makes much sense to me at all. Talk about a gang that can’t shoot straight! Maybe they should pack up and move to LA…put that town up there out of their misery. LOL

  40. bspurloc says: Dec 11, 2010 11:46 PM

it isnt an issue of snow on the roof its an issue of the airports are closed down so the giants cant get there. try to read the story. I mean the story must be like what 10 pages long?

Why is that? Metrodome officials made the recommendation to move the game. Nowhere on the announcement was there any mention of the Giants travel delays.

  43. cab135 says: Dec 12, 2010 1:06 AM

There iS no need for the Giants to Forfeit the game. Yes the are stuck in kansas, but it has more to do with the Vikings stadium then where they are.
