NFL won’t change Giants-Vikings start time, yet

NY Giants Pic

Despite a Twin Cities snowstorm that has diverted the New York Giants’ team flight to Minneapolis, the NFL announced Saturday afternoon that it has no intentions of changing the Giants-Vikings start time “under any scenario yet.”

The Giants are currently stuck in Missouri, where they’ve been forced to conduct their Saturday walkthrough and pre-game meetings in Kansas City’s MCI airport.  With snow not expected to cease before midnight tonight, it’s been speculated that the game might have to be pushed back to 4:15 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News speculates that the Giants may have to wait until Sunday morning to fly out of Kansas City.

Tom Pelissero of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities went so far as to suggest the game could be delayed until Monday.

Per NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, as of 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday no decision had been made on Giants-Vikings kickoff time if the G-Men can’t get to Minnesota by Saturday night.

UPDATE: Giants V.P. of communications Pat Hanlon passes along that the team will be staying in Kansas City for the night. Hanlon has posted plenty of pictures of the stranded ballclub on his Twitter account.

This blizzard is crazy. Not a chance the giants get in tonight. I think they shut down the entire MSP airport…. time to get start drinking and enjoy the Blizzard 2010 the right way!

    L.A.Vikings anyone??

Blame for this entirely falls on the Giants organization. It has been known for quite sometime that the storm was coming. They should have left Friday and they wouldn’t be having these problems would they!

Vikings have suggested the Giants use the opportunity to hold a 450 mile walk through. “It might be a good bonding experience for the team”, suggested a Minnesota spokesperson. “Give them lots of time to work out the kinks.”.

Eli Manning, ever the prankster, started a snowball fight. But he lost badly due to inaccuracy and lack of velocity on his throws.

Are they waiting for the last minute? Cmon NFL!

Exactly. They were talking about this storm on the local news here in NY on Wednesday night. If they can’t get to Minneapolis in time, then they should have to forfeit because they knew there was going to be a storm and they knew it was going to be a bad storm.

Giants beheld a huge banner in the sky that read

    HE’S NOT READY YET.

But they were unable to make out the airplane towing it.

  8. cusoman says: Dec 11, 2010 4:25 PM

This is entirely the Giants organization’s fault and any lost TV revenue, ticket sales, or concession sales due to the game having to be rescheduled completely should be charged to them – this blizzard was being hyped up around here ALL WEEK, and even the most casual of meteorologists were predicting *at least* a foot of snow. Don’t these guys listen to Al Roker or something, being in NYC? :P

Good thing Mangina isn’t coach – he’s have them get on buses and ride to Minney.

  11. chicagodish says: Dec 11, 2010 4:36 PM

NFL rules won’t allow the game to be at 3:15 tomorrow because the Jets play at 3:15 tomorrow. Jets/Giants are not allowed to play at the same time. That’s why the NFL won’t change it.

No snow in LA. There are no football fans in LA either, but thats a different story.

Ah, so using that logic the following teams should also move because of the potential for snow on NFL game days and leading up to, regardless of a roof over the team’s stadiums:

Bears, Packers, Lions, Broncos, Steelers, Patriots, Jets, Giants, Browns, Bills, Eagles, Ravens, Redskins.

… and now you know how stupid you sound.

  21. halftermguv says: Dec 11, 2010 6:10 PM

Hear that? That’s the sound of millions of midwesterners laughing their butts off. Cue the smug New Yorker talking down to a bunch of hay seeds. New idea for a game show: Are you smarter than a New York Giant?

  22. krow101 says: Dec 11, 2010 6:12 PM

It’s been a heck of the year for the Vikes. First they lust after Favre’s jock. It ends up badly, and Coach Wimpy gets fired. Now all that matters is getting the Crypt Keeper his 300 starts. Sad really… but I bet the folks in Green Bay are laughing till they wet themselves.

  23. rmac1353 says: Dec 11, 2010 6:12 PM

The Giants should fly into Fargo where the weather is fine and take a bus to Minneapolis. It is only a 3 1/2 hour drive from fargo to Minneapolis.

  24. youboettcha says: Dec 11, 2010 6:15 PM

I hope the game gets moved. Then the Packers will be on TV for me to watch. It’s BS that I live in Wisconsin but Vikings games get priority.

  25. samiratou says: Dec 11, 2010 6:17 PM

Agreed that the Giants should have known better and left last night, but as a Vikings ticket holder who has to dig a car out from 4-6 foot snowbanks in -10 weather, I’m all for a later start time.

C’mon, NFL, pull the trigger, or at least make a damn decision one way or another and stick with it. The indecisiveness just makes it hard on everyone.

Actually yes it does snow in LA, our mountains are snow capped right now. And yes there are football fans in LA, UCLA and USC. What else can you throw out there so that I can correct?

In a related statement, Les Frazier confirmed that if the Giants did not show up for the game, Brett Favre would make his 298th consecutive start and stay in as long as it took to make the forfeiture official.

“More than just a token snap if necessary” were his exact words.

Why would we talk to you at all? We have no interest in the various varieties of corn and how best to grow them. We like corn and we’ll happily buy it from you, but we really have no desire to have a conversation with you.
