Mangini isn’t off the hot seat yet

From an outside perspective, Eric Mangini has done a solid coaching job this year in Cleveland.

His Browns beat the Saints and Patriots without a lot of talent. They have played only three teams with a losing record all season, including their loss to the Bills in Week 14. (They won the other two games.) Still, it sounds like Mangini hasn’t quite convinced anyone that he’ll be around to coach the team next season.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer said in an interview that Mangini is going to have to win two of his last three games to prevent Mike Holmgren from taking a “hard look” at replacing Mangini. They face the Bengals, Ravens, and Steelers to close the season.

Keep in mind this isn’t a “report” but rather informed speculation. Still, it shows that nothing is settled when it comes to Mangini’s status.

It was a surprise when Holmgren decided to keep Mangini in the first place, seen by many as a one-year trial. Mangini has done a representative job, but it sounds like he has work left to do to stick around.
