The talent on the team is dramatically improved… but the Browns record is mediocre

Which is what Mangini is – a mediocre coach.

Holmgren has a responsibility to look at every position on the team – including coach – and determine if there’s an opportunity to improve it.

If Holmgren sees an opportunity to replace a mediocre coach with a good coach, I expect he will do so.

To those who say that the Browns have no talent: If the Browns didn’t have any talent, then they would not have been able to beat, let alone dominate, the Saints and the Patriots. The inconsistency paired with the poor personnel decisions are the direct result of coaching.

Well stated. These two seem to delight in wallowing in negativity. They also believe they have the power to force decisions on the Browns front office. I don’t even read any of the crap they write anymore.

That said, I hope the Browns keep Mangini. I’d love to see the Browns win 2 out of their last 3, or better yet, 3 out of 3, and beat all of the division rivals.

I really don’t want to see the Browns start all over again, yet again. I am not dazzled by the idea of Gruden, or by the idea of Holmgren giving himself the job.

Why would anyone say Mangini has earned another year? If you reward mediocrity then don’t expect anything more than mediocrity. Don’t forget Mangini is responsible for the pathetic 2009 draft where we passed over Clay Matthews Jr and Rey Maliluga to draft Brian Robiskie.

Gruden could beat these guys into shape, as could Marty.

Firstly, How is Mangini responsible for who a GM says to take? Didn’t they take away his complete control over the roster? And Malliluga has been good when he’s been on the field, but he hasn’t been. He’s on IR for the Bengals if i’m right.
Who did this team have to throw to? They got rid of Edwards and had castoffs from the Jets. Sorry but Chansi Stuckey isn’t going to light it up out there.
The team was horrible and now it’s getting close. Let McCoy out there for a bit and have another good draft.
If this team wasn’t playing in the AFC North, they’d might be .500 at this point. Hard to have 4 games against 2 top 10 defenses and expect to win some with the talent on this roster.

You want to keep your job, get Colt under center ASAP.

Mangini was no GM, and he proved that, and has since been relieved of those powers. Rogers Poll ranks us with the #2 most difficult schedule and we have 5 wins, 2 of which were over top 5 opponents, and we had a ton of close games.

Last year we were #13 in schedule, and had 5 wins, most of which came against teams with losing or mediocre records. Mangini has shown improvement over a year, which is all you can ask for. You just cannot look at the records here, since these two teams and schedules are completely different.

What head coach could have taken this team to a super bowl this year? Is that what someone has to do to keep their job in Cleveland? 2 years and no super bowl and they are fired. This is not Washington, give him some time to build this team and make more progress with them. We have already had 6 coaches since this team came back into the league, let’s stick with one for a bit longer and see if it works.

As someone who’s always had a soft spot for Cleveland, I watch this team quite a bit. I would say keep him. They’re in much better shape since he’s taken over. He’s the right man for the job. Not a iron-fist guy like he was in New York. Just like Jim Schwartz is the right man for Detroit and Jason Garrett is the right man for Dallas.
Fire Singletary, Norv Turner or Jeff Fisher, sure. But Cleveland is insane if they give up on Mangini.

Daboll’s offense has worked with McCoy and Wallace in the game, but not with Delhomme. Mangini’s biggest mistake at this point has been starting Delhomme when he should have started Wallace. Hopefully he’ll realize that mistake and start Wallace or McCoy this week.

Mangini has done a good job with the talent that he has. When Colt McCoy has been QB, the Browns have beaten New England and New Orleans, while losing to NYJ in OT. The man has simply had terrible QB play for most of his tenure (Derek Anderson! Brady Quinn! Jake Delhomme!). I don’t know too many coaches that can win with 10-14 pts of offense per game.

But Delhomme? Please.

Mangini has done a very good job with very little talent. Now is not the time to get rid of him, get rid of OC Drabol, yes, but not Mangini. Firing him will not only set the team back, but he will go on to win a Super Bowl as a head coach with another team as he would be out of work for a total of 5 minutes as HE IS A GOOD COACH!
