Vikings working to get TCF Bank Stadium ready for Monday

Winter Storm Metrodome Collapse

Well, if Brett Favre can’t play in the Metrodome, perhaps no one can play in the Metrodome.

After Monday night’s Favre-free fest was moved to Ford Field, the Vikings have announced that preparations are being made to play at the University of Minnesota’s open-air venue in the event that the Metrodome isn’t ready.

“The Minnesota Vikings are working diligently with the University of Minnesota and the NFL on preparing TCF Bank Stadium in the event that Mall of America Field at the Metrodome will not be ready for Monday night’s Vikings-Bears game. Their cooperation has been tremendous,” the team said in a statement.

“The Vikings are committed to ensuring a home game in Minnesota for our fans. We will continue to update fans and media as the process moves forward, but at this time no further information is available.”

We suggested earlier today that, rather than select one place or the other now and hope to get it ready by Monday, preparations should be made to get both stadiums ready.

TCF Bank Stadium holds only 50,805; thus, some of the ticket holders will be left holding the bag.

After the season, this episode should prompt the general public in Minnesota to do all they can to get a new stadium, with a reliable roof, constructed as soon as possible.
