Mario Williams is done for the season

What little hope the Texans had left to make the playoffs evaporated in overtime on Monday night.  With that in mind, the team has started to make some decisions with 2011 in mind.

The team placed defensive end Mario Williams, wide receiver David Anderson, and guard Mike Brisel on injured reserve, ending their seasons.   Williams hasn’t been right for a while now.

He’s laudably kept playing through a sports hernia without complaining.   After the coaches watched film of Williams struggling on Monday night, they decided to shut him down for the season.   John McClain of the Houston Chronicle notes that Williams led the team with 8 1/2 sacks, 19 quarterback hits and 10 tackles for loss.

The Texans defense has actually improved its play over the last month, but this news won’t make it any easier for coach Gary Kubiak and crew to close the season strong.

Good draft pick = 0 playoff appearances.

i think more noteworthy here is that his streak of consecutive games played is over. he’s started every game of his career so far.

They should start putting some young guns in now to let them develop and possibly find another diamond in the rough like Foster last year. Give Stanford Keglar a chance; not like your D can get worse as you’re watching everyone else go onto the post season from the couch…

The guy is a great player, but he will have to wait at least one more year to get his first playoff appearance. And Reggie Bush still has a Super Bowl ring and will soon be working on his second.

I’d still rather have Mario Williams than Reggie Bush. A franchise pass rushing DE is a lot tougher to find than a good RB.

Shut him down and get him healthy for next year.

A franchise pass rushing DE is definitely a lot tougher to find than a good decoy. Needless to say, if they had drafted Bush, he wouldn’t have any rings.
