Mario Williams is done for the season

M. Williamshou

What little hope the Texans had left to make the playoffs evaporated in overtime on Monday night. With that in mind, the team has started to make some decisions with 2011 in mind.

The team placed defensive end Mario Williams, wide receiver David Anderson, and guard Mike Brisel on injured reserve, ending their seasons. Williams hasn’t been right for a while now.

He’s laudably kept playing through a sports hernia without complaining. After the coaches watched film of Williams struggling on Monday night, they decided to shut him down for the season. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle notes that Williams led the team with 8 1/2 sacks, 19 quarterback hits and 10 tackles for loss.

The Texans defense has actually improved its play over the last month, but this news won’t make it any easier for coach Gary Kubiak and crew to close the season strong.
