Not benched yet, McNabb booed at basketball game

Donovan McNabb, Quincy Black, Michael Bennett

FOX’s Jay Glazer, who first raised the possibility that Rex Grossman could supplant Donovan McNabb as starting quarterback of the Redskins, reports that, for now, the Redskins are sticking with McNabb, for now.

And the fans may not be too happy about that.

Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post reports that McNabb was subject to an undetermined amount of booing at Tuesday’s game between the Lakers and the Wizards.  Steinberg’s second-hand accounts peg the percentage of cheers to boos at anywhere from 70-30 to 50-50 to 40-60.

It’s a good thing that McNabb isn’t thin-skinned.

On Tuesday, rumors were rampant that the Redskins were considering using Rex Grossman at quarterback.  We assumed that a final decision would be made based on this week’s practices.  Glazer reported that, last week, Grossman and McNabb shared first-team reps at practice.

I am surprised that NBA fans actually knew what was going on. Usually they are too busy on their blackberries and cell phones to actually pay attention to the game or what is going on in the arena.

leave it to stupid Washington fans to boo McNabb.. it’s your ownership and coaching you idiots… big boy Snyder bringing in big name has beens…. thats what he’s all about…. What has Shanahan done since Elway retired…. NOTHING. So what does he do when he comes to Washington… NOTHING.

    For now, for now.

Don’t worry Mike… maybe McNabb will get benched, just like you said he would early this week, and early this season, and maybe Haynesworth will be cut, like you thought, and maybe Gruden will take Shanny’s place… am I missing anything?

  6. moochzilla says: Dec 15, 2010 10:34 AM

Wow, who knew that the Wizards draw 100% Eagles fans. Because Eagles fans are the only ones who boo, and the only ones to pick on poor old Donovan.

Hey, Skins Fans – BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!

You could be stuck with someone like Michael Vick or Kevin Kolb! Oh, wait, they’re both better than #5.

Well, you could be stuck with Jason Campell! Oh, wait, he’s been playing better than #5.

Well, let’s sum it up like this….

SOME PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES IN THEY LIVES. AND THEY MADE A BIG ONE LAST SUMMER!

Ps – Thanks for the draft picks!

Shanny’s doing a real number on that team.

  8. isonic1 says: Dec 15, 2010 10:35 AM

I was at the game and it was more cheers than boos. It was mainly the Laker fans who were booing. Makes sense since they are also probably Cowboy and Yankees fans also.

  9. bobbyhoying says: Dec 15, 2010 10:36 AM

Can somebody please post all the comments by sports writers and fans (like Neon Deon) who thought Andy Reid was crazy for trading McNabb to the Skins for two draft picks? Let’s see. So far we got Nate Allen who has played well as a rookie and we still get to pick a third or fourth rounder in the next draft. Maybe it’ll be another third round pick like Brian Westbrook. With all due respect to Donovan, who gave Eagles fans a lot of great years, Reid obviously foresaw the circus in DC. It’s why he is second longest tenured coach in the NFL rather than writing for a website or appearing as a commentator on the NFL Channel.

  12. 12strikes says: Dec 15, 2010 10:42 AM

You better watch out…. Mama McNabb is going to write about you on her blog.

2 things have become VERY evident during this season…

    1. Andy Reid’s handling of QB’s can hide allot of short comings by the QB

    2. McNabb has a lot of short comings.

Maybe now every time McNabb is interviewed they can ask him how he over came the booing…in Washington at the basketball game.

Yeah, according to Hill, you’re a racist if you boo a black QB, but you should feel free to give a white QB like Favre the “duracell treatment”. Nice to see that she doesn’t make decisions based on race.

Having said that, WTH people. First people say Eagles fans are horrible and never deserved to have McNabb on our team because we booed him in game time situations, and now DC fans are booing him off the field? That’s just wrong. If you want to boo someone because you’re upset with their performance on the field, boo them when they’re on the field. When the man is just trying to live his life, leave him alone.

And leave it to ninjapleazee and phamto2 to not read the linked article. It was LA fans booing, with primarily Washington cheers. In additiona, LA fans were sitting during the military appreciation moment.

And to say Jason Campbell is playing better than McNabb is ridiculous. Really? Have you watched the Raiders games? He’s getting the most rushing yards a game behind him. Donovan is about to put up 4,000 yards.

    Yeah, I remember that!

Rush Limbaugh was 100% right–McNabb was/is overrated, the media was/is interested in seeing black QBs be successful (currently: all the Vick media slobber/hype/MVP talk), and he DID benefit from an above-average Eagles defense for years and years.

Ironically, I remember back in 06 (?) when McNabb said, in effect, “No QB in the league takes more criticism than I do…” this was at the PRECISE time where every single sports pundit, commentator, announcer, writer, and fan the whole world over was constantly, ubiquitously using Rex Grossman as the punchline to every bad joke about bad quarterbacking imaginable.

You couldn’t turn on a TV/radio/computer or open a newspaper without SOMEONE taking an unprovoked, frequently undeserved, cheap shot at Grossman.

And while McNabb played the victim, and put up his facade of phony humility, Rex carried on with quiet dignity, carried the clipboard and called signals on the sideline, kept his mouth shut, did whatever was asked of him–always the great team mate, always the consummate professional, never complaining, never getting defensive or firing back or making excuses.

I hope Rex DOES get a shot, and I hope he pulls out a few surprise wins in these final weeks.

Was the boo-o-meter broken? Who’s the person responsible for keeping track of the boo to cheer ratio during a game, and why was he sleeping on the job?

    Is there a formula involved?

How can I gain training and education necessary to enter the boo-ological field?

    I have so many questions!

  30. mikejd12 says: Dec 15, 2010 11:38 AM

Im an eagles fan and i will defend mcnabb in many regards. FIRST OFF the guy has to learn a completley new system with new terminology. Anyone who knows football knows that, that is NOT an easy task. The plays have names as long as this post im going to write. And its a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SYSTEM! The guy has been doing the same thing for 10 years!!!! You expect him to have the instincs to be able to learn this in one year? Your nuts. Name one qb that has done that? SECOND OFF he has NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO offensive line nore does he have a really good running game, nore a good defense, nore good recivers, nore a good special teams. Santana is 100 years old, offensive cant protect what so ever, well look at the defense …… in shambles right now. Get off mcnabbs nuts and give him a break. That whole team stinks right now!! And shannonhan is not making the right decision right now. Hes making himself look like an idiot!!

Dude, this is true. I keep hearing about how MF is supposedly some Washington homer, but he writes more inflamatory articles about them than anyone.

BTW, the Redskins have made lots of mistakes and deserve criticism. But what I find disturbing is that people just throw crap out there like fact and everyone swallows it. I mean, everyone on this board probably thinks it’s a LOCK that Grossman will start, that all the Redskins fans are booing McNabb, etc. And they are so smug that they “know” this but in reality they are just being foolishly mislead by speculative reports. So keep feeling smug about your supposed “knowledge” of the Redskins, I guess.

  32. descendency says: Dec 15, 2010 11:53 AM

    @bradyisgod

McNabb got 3 million dollars from signing that extension. However, the ENTIRE contract is an option to be picked up at the end of the year. If the Redskins are not happy with McNabb, he’s gone and just 3 million richer. If he’s on the team past a certain date, then he will receive the guarantees he signed for.

So the contract signature was basically dated March 1, 2011 and can be burned at any point between now and then.

Question, how many of you smart know it alls predictited you were going to win a superbowl every year? You dont have to admit how stupid that was, it shows in the hx of your dumb azz posts.
I am going to go out on a limb here….you are gonna come up short again this year. And what will you have to say? Who will you blame? All you will be able to say is the same motor mouth junk you spew every year. What went wrong? This year you have indeed a formidable team but they will find a way to f it up. Watch. I think back to chris fooley calling the eagles org a bunch of boneheads for allowing mcchoke to leave. Fooley is a joke too. They all think they are better than everybody else including the owner. That is the problem with this org. Last place for at least the next 5 yrs….LMAO.

  43. Omar Comin says: Dec 15, 2010 1:17 PM

The only reason the booing was noticeable is because the Lakers were in town and people actually went to a Wizards game… That’s what Washington is all about sports wise, i.e. what’s hot and where’s the place to be seen. Now a long time Caps fan like myself can’t even get decent priced tickets because these downtown d-bags go there in a monkey suit and type on their BB because it’s the cool place for the cool kids now… Fed-ex is no different. Terrible terrible sports town, if Baltimore had a hockey team i’d have nothing to do with DC

  44. phillyphan1 says: Dec 15, 2010 1:18 PM

    Baddegg, etc.
Who said anything about Vick and any foreknowledge? I didn’t say anything about Vick or the season the Eagles are having or anything else. McNabb was a good quarterback, never great, and did a lot of good here. Never any trouble with the law or anything like that, and I give him credit for that. I have friends in DC, and I told them the exact same thing when they picked him up. He’d get you so far, then ultimately break your heart.
What I’m saying is I think it’s priceless that everybody loved to rag on the Eagles fans because we didn’t genuflect at the knee of McNabb, and he OCCASIONALLY had to deal with boos. And please don’t give me the draft day garbage. That was 30 idiots whipped into a frenzy by a sports radio station, and never reflected the fans or the city.
The fact is the Eagles are better off for having moved on from McNabb. Simple as that. I never claimed to be some kind of genius for being able to see the obvious.

Sweet fancy moses, I’ve really learned to despise both Baltimore and Washington fans while living here in the area, but who knew Skins fans were as moronic as Philly fans?

slickzmoney, remember that time 20 years ago when the skins won something. That was awesome. Remember those 3 times since then that they even made the playoffs? That was almost as cool.

Just keep in mind that while you are sitting around your house this January in a 1991 NFC East Champion sweatshirt, I’ll be watching the eagles in a meaningful football game. I have been for the past decade, and probably will for the next 5 years. But keep polishing those Superbowl XXVI replica rings you bought off ebay.

One coach, 3 different QB’s, 3 trophies. 5 trips to the SB in all. It’s been a while, but we long-time fans aren’t going anywhere…just rootin’, groanin’, hopin’, waitin’…I know Super-Dan has made some really, really dumb moves, but I bet he would not have driven off Jimmy Johnson. Weeeeeee…maybe next year we win 6! I’ll be watching on NFL Sun ticket, wearing my gear, sometimes drinking too much….

Oh, and by the way, Hail, dammit!

Mike – he had a great OL in Philly and never got it done there either.

What you need to know about McNabb is this – he needs A- or better players at every position, they all need to be healthy, they all need to be veterans at the peak of their careers, and they can never make even a single mistake.

    That happens, he can win.

Brady has C+ weapons and wins. Manning has you and me out there running routes and he wins. Rivers lost all his weapons and is pulling it out down the stretch.

McNabb would never be able to win even 4 games with what Brady/Manning/Rivers have out there right now.

I heard those same excuses from him and his Stepford fans for over a decade. He’s just a B- guy on a good day, and a total flop on a bad day.

He is what we thought he was.

Dog steaks. Funny. You gonna take that on tour?

SOME PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES IN THEY LIVES, AND THEY MADE A BIG ONE BACK IN THE SUMMER!

What is worse, that your QB can’t win games…or that he’s a Syracuse communications grad that dumbs himself down and talks like Pootie Tang to look cool and hip.

Because he’s a dorky old man at this stage.

PS – thanks for the draft picks.

    rcunningham,

Do they over-hype Rex Ryan and want him to succeed because he’s black?

    Dope.

I love tuff online ego’s who use LMOA + STFU it makes me giggle.

Unlike you my adolescent friend I will not go into hiding if the boys loose. You know this because I’m sure you must read all of my post in the cowboyszone then come on hear on childishly use my comments as your own. This is evident in your knowledge of football. All you do is talk trash and have know real understanding of the game. By the way, we are in last place. Until next week that is.
    BOOYAh

I apologize to all for our younger boy fans. You know you have some of those to that are fans of your team and you too wish they would hit puberty or get offline.

Hey DC fans, if you really want to go back in history, the Eagles have actually won 3 NFL championships…they just didn’t call them Super Bowls then. Which means we’ve won as many as you!
And let’s talk about the 2 Sixers titles and the 1 Warriors title and the 2 Phillies titles and the 2 Flyers Stanley Cups.
Do you really want to go on with this?
