Assuming the league and the union reach a new deal that includes the franchise tag (as expected), Vick will get the tag which should be $15-16 million. The key here is that the Eagles are paying Vick roughly $5 million this year, and Kolb is getting $11.5 million. Kolb is actually signed through next year, with a base salary next year of $1.5 million. This means the Eagles franchise Vick and keep Kolb in 2011 and not really change the QB budget next year. If Vick continues to perform at a high level (on and off the field), you lock him up for a 3-4 year deal. Then you franchise Kolb in the 2012 offseason and deal him for maximum value (Cassel style).

Lookit, I think Vick should give the team a hometown discount.

But he's under no obligation to do so and he's not a bad guy if he doesn't.

The league is full of guys like Shanahn and Kubiak and Wade Phillips that make good players look awful. Reid is a guy who makes players look good.

I think Vick will realize that his chances of being the kind of QB he wants to be (an all-time great and maybe a SB champ) are much more likely to happen with Reid than without him. It's just a good fit.

why would anyone with a sane mind would trade anything for kolb. First he’s nothing especial. Second he’ll be released once vick is signed.

Also both vick and jackson are playing for a contract right now. Talk to me after they get their contracts. we’ll see how they play then
---------------------------------------------

You're giving Richman2256 a run for his money for worst post. They will release Kolb? Nope, they are going to look to move him for a 1st and 3rd rounder. That's the rumor. And with the quantity of teams in desperate need of a young, talented QB his price is going to be very high. Look for the Cards, Vikes, or Panthers to make a big push for him, and go all in to do so. He won't yield as much as Cutler, but it will be closer to that than what Philly got for McNabb.

And Vick and Jackson won't stop once they get paid. They are dynamic players that will continue their path of success even after being paid. Its not like the NBA when contracts are guaranteed... They really can't mail it in.

8dollarbeer says:
…and the nomination for dumbest comment ever made goes to.. Richm2256!!!

How does he owe Philly for winning games for them and making them a super bowl contender? They arn’t a contender with Kolb. You think these teams give a sh!t about what your off the field problems are if you can win them games and be an MVP?
As an NFL player you don’t owe a team anything, as soon as you don’t produce they drop you. To say that he shouldn’t try an make money when he is in bankruptsy, and carry’n this team is the most assinine comment I have ever heard.

-----------------------------------------------

Andy Reid completely reinvented Michael Vick this year.

Vick sucked as a quarterback in Atlanta. He proved to be a moral piece of crap by torturing and killing dogs while running an illegal gambling ring. His skills only further deteriorated by missing two full seasons while in prison.

Reid and the Eagles took a chance that this guy could be saved personally AND professionally, giving him a chance at redemption. What does he do with this chance last year? He continued to suck as a quarterback. Did the Eagles drop him THEN? Dude got paid, and paid WELL.

This year, somehow Andy Reid finally got Mike Vick to stop being the dumbass quarterback he's always been, and finally combine his unquestionable physical ability with the mental skills needed to be a successful NFL quarterback.

Yes, the Eagles got something out of this; they sold tickets, and won games, rejuvenating their fan base in the process. But that's what Michael Vick owed them for the fat contract they've been paying him for two years now.

Without Andy Reid, Miachael Vick has no success this year, and no one will pay him what he's going to be worth next year after Andy Reid straightened him out. Without a doubt, he owes loyalty to Andy Reid and the Eagles. If Vick doesn't see that, then he hasn't changed a bit since he stole money from Arthur Blank while lying to him.

Even an idiot like you should see that.

Maybe if he continues to listen to people like Andy Reid, he'll get OUT of bankruptcy, and stay out. Micheal Vick has not proven to be a very smart person on his own.

Not for nothing, but this guy has a lot of nerve talking like this. Here the Eagles gave this moron another chance after being out of the game for 2 years, they stuck with him even when he stunk it up last year, completely resurrected his game and made him a better player… and this is how he talks?

The only words out of his mouth should be about how grateful he is, how much he wants to stay and how much he owes it to the Eagles to try to work something out. That’s it. Talk about money behind closed doors, fine, but I think he really comes off as a miserable ingrate here.
----------------------------------------------------

Do you know how much money Michael Vick made the Eagles this year? And how much money he made for the city of Philadelphia? And the NFL?

The bottom line is that Vick is a money machine. This is a business. He sells out stadiums. Advertising dollars are through the roof right now. NBC Sunday Night keeps the Eagles on TV. Tax dollars are rolling in hard and heavy. It's a financial windfall.

When Vick was here in Atlanta, he made so much money in tax revenues that the mayor of Atlanta testified for the defense in his sentencing. The Atlanta Falcons is right now having the very best season in the team's history and they haven't made as much money when Mike Vick qb'ed Falcons team went 8-8.

That's why I have no problem with him talking money. He needs the money. He knows that the franchise tag may go away. He knows that a team will pay him an insane amount of money for his services. Why? Because the Falcons did it. His contract was in the Guinness Book of World Records and the Falcons made a profit.

Forget the fat contract, Vick OWES Philadelphia. They took a chance on his sorry a$$ when no one else would, signing him despite his prison record, his P.R. baggage, and despite the fact that he really wasn’t that good BEFORE missing two years in the can.

Then they tutor this guy and try to teach him to be a more cerebral quarterback as opposed to a guy who runs like a halfback and occassionally thows an incompletion.

Andy Reid has MADE the Michael Vick that everyone is drooling over, and Vick owes him something for that.

*******************************************

...and the nomination for dumbest comment ever made goes to.. Richm2256!!!

How does he owe Philly for winning games for them and making them a super bowl contender? They arn't a contender with Kolb. You think these teams give a sh!t about what your off the field problems are if you can win them games and be an MVP?
As an NFL player you don't owe a team anything, as soon as you don't produce they drop you. To say that he shouldn't try an make money when he is in bankruptsy, and carry'n this team is the most assinine comment I have ever heard.

Perfectly stated. But I'm with you. They also would be willing to cheer for Marvin Harrison and Donte Stallworth if they were relevant, and they also killed people.

Gypjet – Vick was convicted of (Federal) Felony conspiracy in interstate commerce/aid of unlawful animal fighting venture (Title 18, USC, Section 371); (Virginia) Felony dogfighting, 3 years in prison and $2500 fine. He is also on probation till November 2012. SO he hasn’t paid is debt to society just yet. I agree with you 100% about Ray Lewis, I disagree with you about Roethlisberger. Plain and simple, he was never charged or convicted of anything. He could stand to make better decisions, yes. Saying “what is worse” between Vick and Roethlisberger, killing animals and profiting from it is 100% worse when your case is “possible rape.” I am a Bears fan by the way. No pun intended, I don’t have a dog in this fight just make sure your arguments are factual and not what you think they are cause you are an Eagle fan.
