I’m an Eagles fan, I just happen to not be retarded. The stats show that Steve Smith, when healthy, had more catches, first downs, and yards than Nicks. If you’re comparing their production this year you nay want to take into account the fact that Nicks has started 5 more games due to injuries to Smith. Bonehead.

In 2009 Smith never had fewer than 3 catches, and had less than 6 catches only 5 times all season.

This season, he was averaging over 5 catches per game, 48 in 9 total games, with mostly bad health for the previous 2-3 games.

When people are callling Steve Smith Manning’s “go-to guy”, that’s not the same as calling him a QB’s best or most productive receiver. It’s the guy that the team will more often look to on a short route for a modest 7 yard gain with almost no yardage coming after the catch.

Smith has played an extra year with Eli, has averaged over 5 catches/game since his 2nd year and is the more methodical weapon for the Giants offense as compared to the bigger play potential of Hakeem Nicks. That’s not to say that Nicks can’t make the plays that Smith does more often than not, but there’s more stability and precision to Smith’s short-routes, that’s what enabled him to have 100 catches last season

Here’s the real scoop. Two years ago everyone who knew anything about football was concerned that the Giants wouldn’t be any good b/c they had no notable passing game now that Plax was gone. The VIOLA!, we were explosive. Point being, do not discount Eli and “whatever guy” he decides to work with on their own time at becoming the next “1-2 punch”. I can’t say how exactly we come out of this particular season but it sure would make sense if next year starts with Manningham playing slot and being “the new steve smith.” Make no mistake, all that means is that when steve does get back eli will be dynamic with both of receivers taking care of all the breaking route, in’s/out’s, underneath stuff, while Nicks maintains his role as our vertical guy and our legitimate #1 and an answer to DJax and Dez’s explosiveness

I understand that you do not want to take out all of your starters with a 21-3 lead in the 4th quater. I just don’t understand why Smith or Nicks were in the game at that point, especially since they were both already injured. Manningham and Hagan are both very capable of being productive at that point in the game. This is a big blow.

Yeah, THIS year, because Steve Smith has only started 7 games, “Gomer.” If you’ve read a scrap of Giants info (practice reports, training camp stuff) you’d know that Steve Smith is Eli’s “guy.”

kimcon2200- Smith is def Eli’s favorite target and the “go to” receiver. 1st probowl WR in over 20 years for the giants, had over 1,000 yards last year and over 100 receptions. the CLEAR favorite target for Eli, and defenses worrying about him is what made Nicks so open and productive.

At least have an incling of knowledge to bring to the conversation instead of just lampoonig someone else’s comment based on pure speculation, GOMER

Steve Smith is his safety blanket…need a first down Eli hits Smith…Big play Eli looks Nicks…

Hopefully, the Giants resign him because regardless who Eli’s fav target is Smith helps the offense as a whole…

If for some reason we dont resign (which I doubt) thanks for the huge 3rd down catch to move the chains a few years ago during the super bowl…..

Go G-Men we still have all the pieces for another super bowl run and it begins this weekend when we beat down them lil tweety birds !!!

Giants need to sign this guy, it’s worth the risk. He may not have blazing speed or be a big deep threat, but he is a clutch player. Also, Eli loves the guy and is his go-to receiver. I hope he makes it back for the start of next year…doesn’t look too good though

Thats too bad really. Even being an Eagles fan, Steve Smith (the non-punk ass one) is a really good receiver. We’ve just been fortunate enough as Eagles fans to not have to face him this year! This guy deserves to get paid, and is the unit that makes their offense tick. Without him, they really don’t do much in the passing game.
