Tim Tebow inching closer to first NFL start

Tim Tebow AP

Just when everyone had safely started to ignore the Broncos, they may give us a reason to pay attention again.

Tim Tebow took the majority of first-team reps at Broncos practice for a second straight day, according to Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post.  Kyle Orton is battling a “rib” injury that clearly seemed to hurt his effectiveness last week against the Cardinals.

Earlier Thursday, interim head coach Eric Studesville said the team is “not in a hurry to make a decision.”  That was a change in stance from earlier in the week when Studesville said that Orton would start.

While Studesville said Orton could start without throwing during the week, that sounds like a coach hoping to confuse the opposing coaching staff.  Orton’s availability on Friday will be the key.  It’s very rare for a quarterback to play despite missing three practices.

Tebow never got a chance to play for Josh McDaniels, and he won’t play for Eric Studesville for long.  Still, this could be a great opportunity to impress the next Broncos head coach, whoever he is.

Starting him against the Raiders pass rush and man defense probably isn’t a wise thing to do but hey, it should be fun, lol.

  2. kimcon22000 says: Dec 16, 2010 3:22 PM

I stashed him away in 1 of my keeper leagues. I’d like to see him play.

Why don’t the Fantasy Gods just shoot me in the eye already. Here’s my 11-2 starting lineup that I somehow need to re-piece together for the playoffs this weekend.

    QB- Orton
    WR- B. Lloyd
    WR- G. Jennings
    WR- Holmes
    TE- Gates
    RB- Ivory
RB- Turner (only guy still worth anything)

What the hell did I do to deserve this?

    Countdown to the Tebow haters.

One of our neighbors has a bow tied to one of their trees in their yard. We named it Tim.

  7. daffy87 says: Dec 16, 2010 3:49 PM

They’re out of playoff contention so what is the downside of letting Tebow get some play time?

  8. raidersteve413 says: Dec 16, 2010 3:54 PM

Lets hope this is the case raiders will destroy tebow. Theres a reason why he hasnt been starting. Mcdaniels would of put the best player on the field to protect his job… Tebow can only run and its not gona work every play.

Heres whats gona happen with tebow..
    Sacked 13times
    Ints.. 8
he will go 3 for 24
he will also fumble 3 or 4 times

  9. billsfan27 says: Dec 16, 2010 3:58 PM

Or – it could be a great opportunity for Tebow to un-impress the next Broncos head coach, whoever he is.

  10. hobartbaker says: Dec 16, 2010 3:58 PM

There is a large looming vacancy at the Living Legend position in the NFL. Tebow time.

  11. strctlylo says: Dec 16, 2010 4:00 PM

if orton is healthy, he should start. starting tebow just to ‘see what’s he’s got’ is detrimental to the integrity of the game. integrity of the game is the reason goodell had this season’s schedule loaded with division games at the end of the season. Some of the games that denver will play may have playoff implications for other teams. Now while Denver won’t play to lose, they really aren’t going to be playing to win. Not with a qb that has had like 3 snaps all season, on gimmick plays no less. starting tebow is like benching your qb and other starters for rest for playoff qualified teams, like in years past.

  12. jlb10 says: Dec 16, 2010 4:09 PM

go ahead and start him. especially against the raiders pass rush. wonder what the over/under will be for snaps taken before he is carted off or otherwise knocked out of the game?

  13. hobartbaker says: Dec 16, 2010 4:25 PM

God told Orton if he gave him one of his ribs he’d make a woman out of it so Kyle could finally get laid.

    Devious old fart.

  14. otistaylor89 says: Dec 16, 2010 4:25 PM

    What, no Brady Quinn?

    The nation mourns…

  15. hobartbaker says: Dec 16, 2010 4:30 PM

The other Bronco QBs were terrified of playing in “The Black Hole” of Oakland.

Tebow scoffs at Black Holes, Red Dwarfs, the Spacetime Continuum and all that other scientific mumbo jumbo.

  16. PanchoHerreraFanClub says: Dec 16, 2010 4:33 PM

Surely Tim Tebow isn’t going to start at QB! TE maybe, but QB. I want some of what Studesville is smoking. I’d say it was to put butts in the seats, but the Broncos are on the road.

Brady Quinn . . . you stay on the bench.

  19. jimmylions says: Dec 16, 2010 4:38 PM

I’m surprised Brady Quinn isn’t starting. Even if the Broncos like Tebow better, it’s always been recognized that Tebow is a long term project. Throw him to the wolves too early and he’ll become Joey Harrington.

But, I’m looking forward to the postgame press conference drinking game. Every time Tebow says God, you drink a shot.

Tebow could dismantle your sorry a$$ team. The kid has integrity, something that your team and fans can’t even fathom.

The Raiders are a bunch of wanna-be thugs just like their sorry ex-con (or currently incarcerated) fans.

I hope Tebow starts and demolishes the Jokeland Gaiders.

Why not Quinn? He can throw a football through a brick wall from 10 yards out (providing he can hit it which is highly doubtful).

The Quinnbotts of the world need to unite and give a mighty Brady, Brady, chant. This could be the last chance to see him before he goes UFL!

Can’t wait to see the kid play, hated playing against him in SEC (War Eagle) however excited to see more of him the NFL, I think he’s going to do big things.

  28. meshnuts says: Dec 16, 2010 5:22 PM

Everyone bashing Tebow are the same people who said Vick was washed up and done. Until the Kid plays why judge him? Ask Tom Brady what people thought of him coming out of college. How many teams passed him up lol. He got on the field and WOW this guy can play. Tebow might suprise you haters.

  29. meshnuts says: Dec 16, 2010 5:23 PM

Oh by the way, Drew Brees was to small and his arm strength was suspect.

  31. mnviking says: Dec 16, 2010 6:21 PM

    @richmcn

I would say most be like Tim Tebow and what he brought to the game of college football. He is fun to watch, NFL caliber is yet to be seen.

  32. canadianvikingfaniii says: Dec 16, 2010 6:33 PM

It’d be a shame if Tebow didn’t get to start at all this year. The Broncos aren’t going to the playoffs, they might as well see what the guy has to offer.

  33. silvernblack4life says: Dec 16, 2010 6:57 PM

    @raiderssuckpoodleblahblah
hey tough guy, ever been to a game in Oaktown? Of course not.
    2 things:
    1. Go back to watching games in your crib with your thumb in your
    mouth.
    2. Come on down to lot C on Sunday and talk that trash, and you’ll
find out first hand just how “wanna-be” real Raider fans are.
So see you there, right? Thought not.

  34. essfjay says: Dec 16, 2010 7:03 PM

lol no way they start Tebow in Oakland the guy would get killed out there. Oakland is 3rd in team sacks that pass rush would kill him. Not to mention Oakland plays man defense those two things equal bad news for Tebow. I just think the Donks are doing this to make the Raiders game plan around Tebow more. Even if the guy does start I expect them to be running the ball more than they usually do.

    Good luck Tebow!

Tell the black hole I said what up. :]

  35. commandercornpone says: Dec 16, 2010 7:38 PM

the raiders are already confused, so studesville is just wasting his time.

Tim Tebow = Brady Quinn II

Now I’m done….. Yes you are Brady and Tebow is next… God can’t help you from getting smacked in the mouth, literally, if playing the Raiders. Given Seymour is in the lineup :) lol.

@Joetoronto………..at least the Donkey fan you are referring to has a team. What are you, a little girl with you’re LOL? Funny thing is, you can’t talk smack to anyone because you don’t have an NFL team. Canadians are the most obnoxious people on the face of the earth. Who else has to say eh at the end of every sentence they speak? Stick to hockey because you’re posts are about as smart as a puck.
