NFL hands down fines for hits on Tarvaris Jackson, Reggie Bush

It’s Friday evening in the NFL, which means it’s time for players to find out their paychecks have been docked.

Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora is today’s big winner with a $12,500 fine for hitting Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson in the head and neck late in Monday night’s game.

Other fines include Rams safety Oshiomogho Atogwe getting a $5,000 fine for grabbing Saints running back Reggie Bush by the helmet on a tackle and Vikings cornerback Asher Allen getting a $5,000 fine for unnecessary roughness for a hit on Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw.

Two players on the Broncos’ defense were fined for hits illegal hits in the game against the Cardinals: defensive end Kevin Vickerson was fined $7,500 for a horse-collar tackle and defensive back Syd’Quan Thompson was fined $5,000 for unnecessary roughness.

  1. Keep those fines coming. We, the fans, have to be reassured that the NFL organization cares about the safety of players regardless of what the referees do. And it helps to display good faith efforts if there is any more litigation about player safety.

  3. I am starting to think the new “radically different” Nike uniforms will be based on a skirt/sweater combo for 2011.

    With the new “no hitting” rules in preperation for an 18 game season and nonsense like the Black Eyed Peas playing the Superbowl, the pussification of the NFL is almost complete. Will someone please fire that assclown Goodell before he completely ruins the sport I used to love?
