This screws the Eagles next week when they will be playing for the #2 seed if the Packers beat the Bears. The NFL should move the Eagles-Cowboys to Monday night to partially compensate for the short week for the Eagles.
Goodell is by far the worst commissioner the NFL has ever had. He postpones a game due to weather in Philly but awards a super bowl to be played 100 miles north of Philly in 2014. Game officiating is the worst it's ever been because Goodell has the refs so confused they don't know what's legal and what's not legal anymore. He is ruining the NFL!!!

I'll bet that the overwhelming majority of those complaining about the game being postponed, were going to be watching it from the warm, cozy comforts of home. Just as the rules for water breaks during training camp and dealing with concussions have evolved and changed over the years, so have the rules about playing games in certain weather conditions. I think the other issue that no one seemed to bring up last night is how weather will factor into the proposed 18-game schedule and the Super Bowl at the Meadowlands in a few years. Does the NFL really want a championship game to be at the mercy of the elements?

Postponing the game was the right thing to do. The weather was REALLY bad and people would have died getting home. The real mistake was flexing the game in the first place. If the game had started at 1PM as originally scheduled, everybody would have been home safe before the brunt of the storm hit. Moving it to Tuesday was a horrible decision, based soley on the interests of NBC. Thanks for giving the birds a 5 day turnaround for the Cowboys, doucebags.

When it becomes a Safety issue for the fans, then common sense takes over and the game needs to be postponed and rescheduled for a later date.

I applaud the NFL for doing the right thing.

———————————————–

Oh Please! Do you really believe that?
Honestly this has set a bad precedent. Good grief they have to cancel a couple of games a year in NFC North with this criteria.

And that supposed 100 accident report. I bet thats tame compared to rush hour and a 1/2inch of fesh snow. I know philly folks are cussing the NFl out for making them look like a bunch of pansies.

-------------------------------

The problem with this storm was, if it moves in not that far, Philadelphia gets two feet of snow instead of one, causing FAR WORSE problems than those that have happened (like New York, which got a foot and two feet in some areas, and if the game had been a home game for the Jets or Giants, it likely would have also been postponed).

I didn't hear about the 100 accidents, but I suspect the NFL was VERY concerned about an accident happening following the game that caused serious injuries or worse and the NFL and/or the Eagles being sued, possibly for hundreds of millions of dollars. In general, it seems the NFL has become much more sensitive in general ever since a 2003 accident following a Giants game in The Meadowlands that left a six-year old girl paralyzed. While that was because of a drunk driver and NOT snow, it likely played into why the NFL postponed this game, which clearly was the right thing to do.

That said, what the NFL should have done was have both games (this one and Saints-Falcons) on ESPN in the following manner:

Vikings-Eagles at 5:30 PM ET/2:30 PM PT (game blacked out on ESPN in Philadelphia and the Twin Cities, where it would be seen over-the-air on NBC stations), with NBC's crew used for the game.

Saints-Falcons pushed back to 9:15 PM ET/6:15 PM PT.

The NFL could then have compensated NBC for losing the Vikings-Eagles game (except in Philly and the Twin Cities) by giving them the Thanksgiving Night game that normally would be on NFL Network either next year or in 2012 if a lockout cancels next season (while NFL Network would either do an additional Saturday night game or perhaps open their schedule with a Thursday night doubleheader), plus also give NBC an extra flex week next year and limit FOX and CBS to 1-2 protected games to give NBC as many good games as possible to make up for losing Vikings-Eagles.

Philly fans are not "cussing out" the NFL. They are "cussing out" people that don't understand it was the NFL's decision, not the Eagles.

I live in the Philly ex-urbs. The reason they canceled was not exclusively fan safety. There were two other reasons:

1) At one point, 20 inches and 50 mph winds were predicted. The City announced around noon that they would declare a state of emergency effective at 3 p.m. That means all non-essential traffic is banned. Technically, driving to/from the game would have been not just dangerous, but illegal.

2) The City was worried about effectively plowing with the extra traffic. Some of the blizzards we had last year resulted in side streets not being dug out for over a week.

Fan safety was really a tertiary concern. "Tertiary" means "third" for all you Eagles-blaming tards out there.

Okay, that seals it!

The NFL absolutely, positively never does the right thing for the right reasons. Not under this commissioner. Not a chance. Goodell does what's politically expedient or financially profitable. Period. I've never been thrilled with the idea of this game being moved for weather reasons, even though I'd be happy to have an NFL game every night and delighted if the extra time means Favre is able to play. But your comment has reminded me that even though we may never know the real reason the game was postponed, there has to be more to it than meets the eye. Goodell simply would not postpone a game solely to protect the safety of fans. He's demonstrated time and again that we mean little to him.

"Rodney paused long enough in the street to grab a clump of snow and hurl it at my head. I was too numb to notice whether it actually connected."

Frolicking in the snow with Rodney eh?

The postponement of this game is a sham!

I thought folks in Philly were tough, gritty, resourceful, hard-nosed types....they sure talk like they are anyway.

Gotta say after last Monday Night in Minny that the Midwest is still "Real America"; the Northeast should just pack it in and join the European Union.

They said during Football Night in America that because the storm was going to continue and get worse, that the fans would be in really bad shape trying to go home. In the MN game, the storm was over and the roads were cleared when they played. Just because they've "played in far worse conditions" in the past, it doesn't make it right for them to do it in this instance.

I heard this from Jay Glazer on the Fox postgame show that a big reason the game was moved was because of the 100+ plus accidents in and around the area. For whatever it's worth.

This whole game postponement is a crock!

1) As Collinsworth(less) said earlier tonight, games have been played in far worse conditions that what is happening currently in Philly. Fan safety was never a concern then. I'd bet the ONLY reason they are claiming it now is to try and avoid refunds.

2) They were not so concerned in Mpls last Monday night, why the sudden concern for fan safety now?
