Singletary firing could come this week

Tennessee Titans v San Francisco 49ers

With the San Francisco 49ers mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, it probably goes without saying that head coach Mike Singletary will not be back next season.

But Singletary might not even be back for the season finale next week.

According to Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, 49ers owner Jed York would not commit to Singletary coaching next week against the Cardinals. York also said the 49ers will begin interviewing general manager candidates soon.

I’m not sure what purpose would be served by firing Singletary with one game remaining, but perhaps York is just displeased enough with Singletary’s coaching this season to pull the trigger.

Or maybe Singletary will be allowed to coach one more lame-duck game, and they’ll formally fire him next week.
