I love Gary Kubiak. So many times it is easy to say; let's just fire the coach. Maybe there is more to it than that here. Kubiak is an intelligent and dedicated coach with big time Houston roots. His teams have shown good progression until this year. Maybe instead of dumping everything some improvement could be focused on the defensive side. Change some defensive coaching, getting some new players through the draft or otherwise. I guess the real question is do you want stability or just some coach looking for the next job. Last year the Texans were on a good track at the end of the season. How can the team get back on track and improve that defense. Maybe Kubiak just needs a little help in the right places.

I love reading comments about Tim Tebow. People are very polarizing about him. It will be interesting to see how he develops in the NFL. I think a lot of young quarterbacks don't spend enough time holding the clipboard. For some reason this seems to help their thinking when they do get a chance. Many of the most successful quarterbacks did not come into the league and start playing immediately. What comes to mind is Joe Montana, not very high ranked out of college. Passed 23 times his first year in the NFL. What Joe did was make very good decisions throughout his career. Tebow may not be the top ranked quarterback out of college but how will his decision making be?

NO STRIKE PLEASE. Can't the millionaire players and billionaire owners figure out how to divide the money so I won't miss football? TWO STRIKES IN BASEBALL and I never came back!!!!! THINK!

Kubiak has done a fine job building an excellent team. Cowher knows this because he put it on his short list. Everyone knew deep down this wasn’t quite the year. This team will win the division with Kubiak as coach. Look at Dungy. Yes, Gruden won the Super Bowl with Tony’s team. However, anyone could have that year. Tony was on the verge of doing it. Ask Indy. Give Kubiak one more year…you’ll see.

————————————————–

Are you seriously comparing Gary Kubiak to Tony Dungy? Dungy’s teams were consistently in the playoffs every year. The only thing consistent about the Texans under Kubiak is mediocrity and a lack of playoffs. People have been claiming this team is “on the verge of doing it” every year and every year they underachieve and disappoint. They aren’t on the verge of doing anything with Kubiak there.

Dungy was 54-42 (56%) at Tampa and 2-4 in playoff games. He was terminated and Gruden one year later took Tony's team to a super bowl. Tony should have been the coach of the winning team he built. Tampa said he could not get to super bowl. You know how that turned out. And Gruden was later fired due to inability to perform. Yes, i compare Kubiak to Dungy. Kubiak is a good coach that will eventually do well. Also, Houston has played in a division that had one of the best teams in the history of the NFL as well as one of the greatest QBs.

@jsratx and others who respond that Tebow's 300 yard passing day is meaningless because of the Texans poor passing defense . . . you have neglected some very important factors in arriving at this erroneous conclusion. Denver has one of the poorest offensive lines in the NFL (evidenced by their bottom of the league rushing game and the number of qb sacks that it has allowed). So, what we had in this game is the movable object meeting the resistable force. Denver not being able to run the ball puts additional pressure on the qb--more 3rd down situations, more passing under pressure, more throws on the run. Second, this was Tebow's second start, and regardless of the fact that the Texans have the worst defense, it is still an NFL defense, not a college one, and it is only the second time that Tebow has had to face an NFL defense as a starter. So there are some relativity issues here that should be taken into account. Now, if Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, playing with their teams, passes for more than 300 yards against the Texans, then you have a point, but a ROOKIE, in his SECOND START against an NFL team, having to playing behind the Broncos line, throws for more than 300 yards?! and how about Tebow's handicaps? His awkward release? His history of not taking snaps under center? His limited ability to read defenses? His limited knowledge of the playbook? And you think that Tebow's throwing for more than 300 yards was only because it was the Houston Texans passing defense? Those that continue to move the line for Tebow to "prove" that he "can be a starting qb in the NFL" are fooling no one but themselves.

I can honestly say that I'm thrilled that the rest of the city and media want Kubiak gone. Personally I thought he should be gone after game 1 of LAST season, when they had all summer and preseason to prepare for the Jets and came out totally unprepared. They finished 9-7, but there were many times during that season when Kubiak would do something ingame or with time management that led me to believe that he wasn't the long term answer.

After last week, throwing the offensive line under the bus saying they weren't blocking well and yet saying the defense was "working hard", I've now come to the realization that it's quite possible Kubiak simply doesn't know enough about defense and special teams in order to coach them up properly. He had no head coaching experience before coming to and came to a team in desperate need of an offense, and he built it into one of the best offenses in the league. Problem is, he had inexperienced coaches take over the defense and special teams and basically "let them do their thing" and the results are horrible. I think the reason they did so well last year was that teams gameplanned to beat the Texans with the rush but did not expect the value of a run-stopper in Pollard and the excellence of Cushing.

Another reason I feel that he doesn't really know much about defense and special teams is his consistency in running Slaton as a kick returner. He has guys like Quintin Demps who have had experience returning kicks and yet game after game continues to put Slaton out there. He's trusting in his inexperienced coaches to solve his issues and failing miserably.

I wouldn't have paid Dunta Robinson $10 million, but I would have franchised him. He's not a top 10 DB, despite what he thinks of himself, but at least he would have been a threat that other teams would have to at least consider in their gameplan, which would also take pressure off of Quin, who at the time was considered one of the better up-and-coming DB's in the league. Unfortunately, Quin will probably be unfairly considered one of the poorer DB's after a season like this one.

I don't know if Cowher would be the answer or not, but he would definitely give this team a national amount of credibility and could at least attract some free agents that otherwise would pass over Houston as a place to play.

Yeah it was Tim Tebow, it wasn’t the crappy seasons he has had as a head coach. It all came down to that one game with Tim Tebow.

Yeah, I'd fire Kubiak for letting a rookie, who is widely expected to struggle based on his mechanics, throw for over 300 yards too. That's what you call an epic fail on the part of the Texans.

If you watched the game at all, you can tell that Tebow is not quite ready for prime time. He had so many throws that were 20 feet over the heads of receivers, tons of miss-throws and one majorly bad decision with the interception. His feet kept him from being sacked multiple times, but what killed the Texans were the screen passes - over and over again they kept getting burned by the screens, hence, why they're a god-awful defense and why Tebow was able to rack up over 300 yards.

And for the person who said Kubiak has done a fine job, this team is 36-43 in 5 years under Kubiak, with one winning season and no playoff appearances. They are 9-20 against division teams and 13-27 on the road during his tenure. They have 6 first or second round defensive players during his tenure, and this year have the league's top rusher, one of the league's top wideouts, and arguably a top 10 QB, and yet they're 5-10.

At this point it doesn't really matter who they bring in as coach, they need to get rid of the coach, the GM, and the rest of the staff and either start over or have new personnel-management.

They are 9-20 against division teams and 13-27 on the road during his tenure. They have 6 first or second round defensive players during his tenure, and this year have the league’s top rusher, one of the league’s top wideouts, and arguably a top 10 QB, and yet they’re 5-10.

At this point it doesn’t really matter who they bring in as coach, they need to get rid of the coach, the GM, and the rest of the staff and either start over or have new personnel-management.

"Also, Tebow has looked like a dual threat starting QB. But go ahead and discredit him because he played the worst pass rank defense in the league."

You can go ahead and be encouraged all you want, but you absolutely cannot ignore Houston's abysmal pass defense and how it impacted his performance. Unless you prefer blind homer-ism to things like context, perspective and objectivity.

Pointing out what should be obvious isn't hating.

Re: the Tebow discussion.

He did it against a HISTORICALLY BAD pass defense. Not just for the 2010 - but in the recorded HISTORY of professional football, there has been none worse than the 2010 Texans.

Lets see Tebow light up the Packers, Steelers, Ravens or Patriots.

Then, people will support your point of view. But if you want to anoint his 300 yard day against the Texans as proof he's the real deal, you are making a fool of yourself.

Happy New Year.

Are you seriously comparing Gary Kubiak to Tony Dungy? Dungy's teams were consistently in the playoffs every year. The only thing consistent about the Texans under Kubiak is mediocrity and a lack of playoffs. People have been claiming this team is "on the verge of doing it" every year and every year they underachieve and disappoint. They aren't on the verge of doing anything with Kubiak there.

Tebow will be a decent to good QB that pulls out a lot of wins with his legs and guts. Once the upper echelon teams face him and dissect his weaknesses, he still will make plays on instinct, but will hit the wall. That being said; He isnt as bad as a lot of people think. How is this:
1. Passing for 300+ yards
2. Throwing one td

4. Winning the game (only our 4th!)

Anything other than excellent?

Manning threw for only one more score and fewer yards. Same with Cutler. Brady threw for half as many yards. BUT ALL FOUR OF THESE PLAYERS WON THE GAME.

Why the hate for Tebow? Too much success for you to handle? Too nice? Too much of a team player? Too much energy?

Kubiak has done a fine job building an excellent team. Cowher knows this because he put it on his short list. Everyone knew deep down this wasn't quite the year. This team will win the division with Kubiak as coach. Look at Dungy. Yes, Gruden won the Super Bowl with Tony's team. However, anyone could have that year. Tony was on the verge of doing it. Ask Indy. Give Kubiak one more year...you'll see.

P.S. Cowher, it was never you that was good in Pitt. It was a great coach before you, a great owner, and great fans that built a consistently winning tradition. You got scared because you thought the end of success was near and bolted. Not!
