Saints say taking pictures on Falcons logo no big deal

Barack Obama, Remi Ayodele

We hesitated to write about the Saints taking a picture on Falcons logo this morning for fear of making too big a deal out of it.  But the story took a life of its own in New Orleans, Atlanta, and nationally with the help of a quote from defensive tackle Remi Ayodele.

I pissed on the Falcons logo,” Ayodele told Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com.

Since there were plenty of media folks around at the time, we have to assume Ayodele is not being literal.  He’s known for occasionally saying outlandish things and apparently was having a little fun.

“The linebackers have done that here for a while,” coach Sean Payton said Tuesday.   “It’s done with respect & after the game.”

Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune explained in a video that the Saints’ linebacker’s tradition of taking pictures after a big road win isn’t new.  The players often keep the pictures in their locker and it’s meant to foster a family type of atmosphere.

We tend to trust Duncan’s sober view implicitly in most Saints matters and will defer to his opinion here that it’s not a huge deal and the Saints weren’t being disrespectful.

Then again, Ayodele was asked by Prisco if he’d be offended if the Falcons did the same thing.

“Absolutely,” Ayodele said.

That’s a first for PFT. I didn’t think that not posting about an NFL incident “for fear of making too big a deal about it” was even in the lexicon of PFT. You sure this isn’t more about your New Orleans bias?

I can only imagine how Lady Ann Tomlinson’s head would have exploded if this had happened on his home field.

After all he is a class act and the authority on all matters of classiness, has anyone called him and asked for his $0.02 yet?

  3. scra22 says: Dec 28, 2010 4:12 PM

The Ayodele comment was obviously not meant literally.

Jonathan Vilma also told the Times-Picayune that the players always do this after big wins. So it’s not a first. And if it was a first, who cares if it was disrespectful? The Saints players typically keep their mouths shut, don’t trash talk, don’t whine after a loss, don’t do things that lots of other players do. They can have their one time to do something others frown on as “not being classy.” Roddy White pretty much cemented the Saints’ resolve with his stupid comments last week. If you want to be treated with respect you need to give respect.

Saints player Ayodele, charged, arrested, for public urination and over intoxication by victory.

  5. hobartbaker says: Dec 28, 2010 4:18 PM

The President had a good laugh when the players told him of their tradition of forming a circle around the other team’s logo, then had the biggest, fattest, ugliest, smelliest and most gross member of the group go to the middle and piss on it.

    @siantsarebest

Please get a life. Every time I read a post about the Saints you are on here spewing your idiocy. No one believes that you are actually a Saints fan, and no one wants to continue to read your obnoxious posts that would take the average non mouth breathing person hours to write just to come up with the number of grammatical errors you have placed. Maybe you should get a job and stop trolling Saints’ posts.

As a Falcon I understand & believe in the law of averages…with the lost last night, the pressure of continuing an 8 game winning streak, being invincible in the Dome etc?..diminished. & In a broader sense of things a victory in last nights game would have given us nothing more than we get week 17 against the Panthers… Beating ANY team 3x would an arduous task for ANY team…Especially defending champs…but now, the pressure will be on the Saints to beat us twice @ home which frankly ALSO, will be an arduous task…& a task th@ I don’t believe can be accomplish…

Top off all your holiday celebrations this season in a tradition from The French Quarter of New Orleans. Toast it with Remi Ayodele fine liqueure.

  11. mark0226 says: Dec 28, 2010 5:10 PM

The Saints players didn’t disrespect the Falcons by mocking another player in front of them immediately after an emotional victory. No, they waited until the Falcons were sulking in their locker room and quietly went onto the field for a photo op. No disrespect, no mocking, just something to remember the hard fought victory.

    Stay classy, New Orleans.

Remi is a beast on the football field. But put him in more dignified surroundings and he becomes every bit the pointy headed intellectual.

7Ward Saints fan in Eugene, OR. unlike the Falcons, I and many others n the Big Easy believe what people do, as opposed to what they say…..

    Roddy White, are you listening?

  16. paulienuts says: Dec 28, 2010 6:19 PM

Come on man! Maybe YOUR team ought to take pictures on the 50 yard line of opposing teams after a win. The Saints are 13-3 ON THE ROAD!

And for you bdert, if you don’t think the Saints can do it again…try to be busy for the next time they meet so you don’t have to watch your team get beat AGAIN with the plays you DIDN’T see last night.

Sean Payton is notorious for hiding some of his playbook. Remember, some of our starters weren’t active last night. Wait until you see the plays Payton has for Chris Ivory in the next game. And Courtney Roby. You haven’t seen ANYTHING yet. Buckle your chin straps boys and bring it on the field…you forgot to do it last night!

Wow. Everyone was so totally rooting for the Saints last year. But it sure didn’t take long for them and their fans to turn into a$$holes. Wow.

Really its just a warm up. Soon an NFC team will be lifting its leg all over Skelators Star. Whoever thought the Pukes would not be in the Superbowl? Oh yea thats right the media and all the azz clowns in Dallas.

These guys win a hard fought game and their fans act like they drubbed us….

I can’t wait to see what they will have to say when they are done for the season in a few weeks.

Paulie no nuts- you made me laugh!!!
“wait until you see what plays he has for Chris Ivory” Seriously???

    Thats some funny stuff……….

    Go Dirty Birds!!!!!!!!!!!

The Falcons have beat two good team all season…The Ravens, and the Saints…All the wins after theses two are against some pretty lame teams.
The Falcons aren’t a threat, they could maybe beat the Bears, but anyone else playing in the NFC Play offs could beat them…Including the Rams!

  24. paulienuts says: Dec 29, 2010 12:56 AM

@bigdmr2007 – Glad you’re entertained, because for you, this season will be merely entertainment with no payoff. Please come back and comment IF the Falcons make far enough to meet the Saints again. They looked pretty immature last night. They have some growing up to do.

I love it how the comments of a couple of over zealous Saints fans represent the ethos of the entire fan base to some of you people.

And “stay classy” is now about as funny as yelling “Free Bird” at a concert.

This whole thing is such a non-story. No one was doing “lights out” on the logo during the telecast. Sheesh!

To me, the funniest thing that happened in that game was Roddy White’s inability to dunk on the goal post. Nice lay up, brah.

  29. veetan says: Dec 30, 2010 11:45 AM

Yup – Drew Brees and Sean Payton are now 8-2 verses the Falcons since they came to N.O. 5 years ago. If, IF the Falcons survive a playoff game, the Saints will make it 9-2.
