Alex Smith will start season finale for 49ers

Troy Smith, Alex Smith, David Carr

In a crazy season for the 49ers, we’re not sure anything is crazier than the fact they are touchdown favorites on Sunday against Arizona.

Despite all the drama and poor play that has plagued the team, there is still a general feeling the 49ers are talented.   We think that idea has been overstated, especially when you look at their options at quarterback.

Interim head coach Jim Tomsula announced Alex Smith will start the season finale over Troy Smith.  It figures to be Alex Smith’s last start in San Francisco, although we’ve thought that was true before.  Linebacker Patrick Willis will miss the game with a hand injury.

It would be typical for Smith to light up the Cardinals and tempt the team to bring him back next year.

Mike stuck Troy back on his wooden horse and sent it clacking on its little wheels down the street.

They might as well start Davi Carr.

That picture is the perfect example of futility at the QB position x 3. Hilarious.

What?! Why?? Why would they go with Alex after all the backlash from 49ers fans? I don’t understand the reasoning here to let him start the finale in lieu of ANYONE else??
    I gotta assume there’s a good reason behind this…?

None of the three QBs in that picture should be on the SF roster next year. Not really surprising that Alex gets the start – Carr is horrible and T. Smith’s best throw on Sunday was an overthrown ball that miraculously turned into a long score (sort of like the hail mary he tossed against the Rams earlier in the year).

Typical for Smith to light them up? More like ironic. The last thing he lit up an IQ test.

Because Alex Smith sucks slightly less then Troy Smith? Troy Smith had two great games followed by four horrendous games. He’s completed only 50% of his passes this year, and has thrown 5 tds to 4 int.

Alex Smith sucks too, but he sucks slightly less. He’s completed 60% of his passes his passes, has 12 tds for 10 int.

Who else are they going to play? Carr? His one time playing this year actually made both the Smith’s look competent, only completing 38% (!) of his passes and throwing an INT.

The fans are sick of Alex Smith. They’re sick of waiting him to be the QB they’ve been hoping he would be (the one who showed up against Seattle where he had a rating of 130). He’ll most likely find a home as a backup somewhere else next season

    Alex Smith is only margina

I actually agree with the decision. Of all the qb’s currently on the roster Alex is the only one I would remotely consider bringing back. As a 2 or 3

“Pats don’t want to face the Ravens”

    ?

Actually since the Pats have beaten them about 5 out of the last 6 times they have played including a come from behind win earlier this season after being down by 10 entering the 4th quarter, do ‘ya think it might just be the other way around?
