In January, Jets coach Rex Ryan was off the clock in Miami, at an MMA event. In response to abuse from Dolphins fans, Ryan flashed his middle finger — and he was fined $50,000 by the team.
On Sunday, Lions center Dominic Raiola yelled an obscene statement (Rosenthal astutely labeled it a “request“) to a Dolphins fan who had paid a ticket to attend a game. Though the game was over, Raiola was in-season and on the clock.
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions have fined Raiola $15,000 for his comments.
Raiola didn’t apologize for his comments, stating only that he “paid the price.”
“It’s like when you’re a kid, and you do something wrong, and you get beat up for it, your dad beats you up,” Raiola said. “I got beat up. I got fined. Usually, you move on to the next day.”
