Vick sounds unlikely to play Sunday

Michael Vick

After Philadelphia’s crushing loss Tuesday night, we said that the Eagles would get their bye week, just  a week earlier than they hoped.

Coach Andy Reid essentially confirmed that the team will rest Michael Vick and likely other starters without exactly saying it on Wednesday.

“I’m not even sure Vick could get back from what he has now, the quad [contusion],” Reid said.
Reid also mentioned DeSean Jackson and Asante Samuel as banged up players that may not be worth using.
“You got to look at what’s at stake if you play them, injury-wise. Some guys need the play-time, some guys need the rest-time. I got to look at that,” Reid said.
We’d be surprised to see the team’s prime skill position players like LeSean McCoy for long, if at all.  The Eagles’ ugly loss guaranteed this Cowboys game doesn’t matter, so they may as well get some benefit out of the bleak situation.

Good. We can beat Dallas with Kolb and the back ups anyway.

  2. aaronrodgerschokes says: Dec 29, 2010 1:13 PM

Get Well Vick, go and beat the Packers. Don’t worry, the Packers have the slow fat and white AJ Hawk you can abuse, and Aaron Rodgers isn’t as good as the almighty Joe Webb.

Awesome. Glad I have tickets to Kevin Kolb vs Stephen Mcgee. sweet.

Get off M. Vick. How about the murders (Ray Lewis), drug addicts, spouse beaters and real thugs that play in the NFL? When did an animal’s life take precedence over human life?

  7. shagsny says: Dec 29, 2010 1:35 PM

I hope Kolb lights it up against the Cowboys… with so many teams needing a QB let’s hope his $tock rise riSE RISE!

  8. help me says: Dec 29, 2010 1:42 PM

    @donna41

    1. Ray Lewis didn’t commit murder.
    2. No one said an animal’s life take precedence over human life.
    3. Michael Vick is a real thug. He didn’t steal because he was hungry. He killed animals for no reason and ran an interstate gambling ring.
    3. Why let facts get in the way of a good argument?

  9. johnnyhose says: Dec 29, 2010 1:42 PM

I’ll bet if this game was played @ 4:15 sunday like it was suppose to, he probably wouldn’t have got hurt @ 8:15 on tuseday.

  10. commoncents says: Dec 29, 2010 1:42 PM

  11. johnnyhose says: Dec 29, 2010 1:43 PM

    Joe Webb, MVP, MVP, MVP

  12. ham1 says: Dec 29, 2010 1:47 PM

Why should we get off Vick?
Isnt this what he won the Ed Block Courage Award for, facing the constant barrage of insults? The more we hurl at him the stronger he gets you would think.
Heck if you ask him he’s the MVP. Brady has it in perspective, Super Bowl rings are what counts. You can have the probowl selections,
MVP and the now discredited Ed Block Courage Award since it is being given out to both dog and human killers. What a joke Vick is. Not only are the Eagirls not winning a superbowl but Vick will eventually get arrrested again.

  16. importantpftcomment says: Dec 29, 2010 1:53 PM

Actually not starting Vick or the others in what amounts to a meaningless game, win or lose is a smart decision even though I don’t agree with it. None of them have anything to play for on Sunday. Winning or losing makes no difference to any other team either.

There are those that say “back in the day” players played with any number of bumps and bruises. The difference now is that there are MILLIONS invested in players, when back then there were only thousands, if that much.

Personally I think players should play the game they are being paid for, not sit on their collective a$$es and earn a complete paycheck.

I understand the decision, just do not agree with it!

You mean like the time he knowingly gave herpies to two women (both sued and settled out of court) and went to get his treatments under the name “Ron Mexico”?

Vick is a sociopath and his run and gun style is getting exposed. Outside a lucky half last week where the Giants fell apart, he hasn’t done jack for over a month. If the Viking don’t drop several balls right in their hands, Vick throws 4-5 INTs last night!

    MVP my butt!

No offense donna41 but where do you draw the line at people we can talk about and people we can’t? Big Ben hasn’t been convicted of anything, but we still know he is (at minimum) a borderline rapist. Can we not comment on that because he wasn’t convicted? Michael Vick drowned animals with his bare hands, that’s one of the warning signs of psychopathic tendencies, can we talk about him in the context that he could be a danger to others, not just animals?

Personally I favor a zero tolerance policy towards felons, drunk drivers, spousal abusers, etc. Ban them all for life, regardless of team affiliation, position, or how good a player they are.

You just answered your own question.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t consider all human life to be more valuable than animal life. Take, for example, a soulless monster like Dog Drowny Mexico, or Rae Carruth mudering his pregant girlfriend, or Leonard Little, who murders a woman drunk driving and then has the audacity to get caught drunk driving AGAIN.

If I saw any one of those punks in a flailing helplessly in a river side by side with a drowning dog/cat/ferret/garden gnome etc, guess which one I’d save?

Really, you have a lot a nerve to compare Ray Lewis, who obstructed justice on one occasion but as far as I know did not plunge the knife into the victim, with a monster who habitually tortured, electrocuted, hanged and drowned dogs for pure entertainment value over a sustaind period of years. If you can’t see the pure soullessness and evil in M. Vick’s character, then you are beyond hope.

  24. icontutu says: Dec 29, 2010 2:12 PM

As an “Animal Lover & Eagles Fan,” I concur Michael Vick isn’t worthy of the MVP Award, but he is deserving of, “The most Valuable, Comeback Player, Award.” Next year, watch his smoke… For those of you, “Holier then thou,” Go howl at the moon and smell your own dirt!!!

  25. wallyhorse says: Dec 29, 2010 2:17 PM

This is the correct move for the Eagles:

The Cowboys game is now all about showcasing Kevin Kolb, who is expected to be traded in the off-season to potential suitors.

    You don’t get it.

To TORTURE and KILL a defenseless animal because it won’t fight, or fight well enough is the sign of a true sociopath, it’s sick really.

Vick also gave his dogs “warmups” against other non-violent breeds. Which means some some poor stray (or stolen) Retrievers or Spaniels got torn to shreds for no reason, that is sick too!

    Idiot!

  35. eaglelover1 says: Dec 29, 2010 3:24 PM

I went and had my year end check up today and had an interesting conversation with both my nurse and technichian. The Nurse (who is white) says that she doesn’t hate Vick but thinks he did a really bad thing and should not have been allowed to come back to the NFL and make millions. So I asked her does she think an ex Bank exec who holds a position in government that allows him to set precedent for the banking industry should be allowed to go back and work for that same industry when his term was over she said no. Yet it has happened in this country for the last 30 years.

My Technichian (who is hispanic and owns several Pit Bulls) say her Husband is NOT an Eagles fan but IS a Vick fan. Says that her husband get totally livid when he hears posts like the ones I have read hear.

But, none of the posters here have a racist reason for posting. Vick killed dogs. Men in Jasper, Texas have killed 2 other men by dragging them behind cars, Dick Cheney shot a man in the face with a shotgun and didn’t even get arrested, The is a warrant for Dick issued by the World Court for his arrest yet he stays in the U.S. and no one turns him over to face his crimes.

Yeah Vick killed some dogs and ran a gambling racket yet not one HUMAN was harmed and there are HUMANS wishing him harm. Dogs are animals just like pigs, sheep, cows, and chickens. Yet not one of you has mentioned a thing about the way these animals are treated. What about horses. Have any of you seen how those LOSING horses have been treated? Or are horses lower down the totem pole than dogs and minorities?

Get your acts together people. Them man served his time and lost millions his slate is clean.

To that DUMASS that has things to say about the president regarding his comments on Vick made public by the RIGHT WING media. Read sometimes and you will see the call was actually about something other than Vick.

Ummm, it is not humane at all, but if you can’t comprehend the difference between the slaughtering animals for food and nourishment as opposed to a purely sadistic entertainment and gambling enterprise, then our future is looking pretty bleak, if comments like this are a barometer of intelligence and morality in this country. Yikes.

Its hard to imagine that the Eagles will just lay down against their hated rivals, the Cowboys. But if they want to have any chance to advance in the playoffs they’ll need their starters to be as healthy and rested as possible. You can be sure the Cowboys will be playing to win though. Jerry Jones would have it no other way. His ‘boys have all off season to rest up.
Its just sad that the Eagles will no doubt end their season with 3 straight losses after everyone had their hopes up that this would be the year the Eagles final win the big one.

By the way, anyone who thinks Vick is a lock for Comeback Player is an idiot. He “came back” LAST season. Remember?

As far as Vick, of course he won’t play. The Vikings defense ran him over. Antoine Winfield found a piece of Vick’s flesh stuck to his face mask today. Said it smelled like dog sh*t!

  48. bigdad10359 says: Dec 29, 2010 11:18 PM

Both Dallas and Minnesota’s defenses showed the rest of the league how to play Vick….put his ass in a world of hurt. Both teams put him on the ground and abused him. They got lucky against Dallas and Minnesota beat them easily. Even their own govenor had them pegged correctly….(p)wussies
