Alan Faneca considering retirement

Alan Faneca, Jeremy Bridges

Signed to a one-year deal in Arizona after being cut by the Jets, nine-time Pro Bowl guard Alan Faneca is considering retirement after the season, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt says the team is happy with Faneca’s performance overall, even if he’s not the player he once was.

“It can always be better, but I think I’ve done well,” Faneca said.
Faneca, 34, surely was hoping for more wins this year.  But he says he’ll enjoy Sunday’s game against the 49ers in case its his last.
“You know you are getting closer to the end than you are to the beginning,” Faneca said. “So you just appreciate the moment and treat it as if it is the last time. I’ve seen guys that haven’t known [it was ending].”

I’m sure he is regretting the hissy fit about the Steelers not paying him a huge contract in his golden years.

He may have won another Super Bowl, and probably made the same amount of money, and probably played another year or 2.

Hopefully other veterans will see his error.

Should consider coaching, he did a good job of teaching Matt Slauson in 09.

Wish he was still in the Black n Gold. I would rather retire than play another year in Arizona, they’re beyond awful.

What are you, a fu&*ing owner? I guess you rather pay a rapist’s salary than reward a solid veteran!

@rightthereisay if i remember right he signed for 40 million and 20 guranteed. he would have never got that in pittsburgh as a lineman. the only sign bums like starks to that kind of money. good luck alan.

To hell is Faneca . He cried like a little bytch his last season . Lost all respect for him after that . He caused mass confusion on the oline his last year . HE wanted the big pay day and he got it . SEe you later Alan . Hope you enjoyed your one SB win and your times in NY and Arizona . If the Steelers are smart they wont sign him a 1 day contract so he cant retire a Steeler . Let him retire a Jet or Cardinal .

No way he would have made the same kind of money. They Jets paid him a ton, 3 years guaranteed. How wouldn’t have seen anywhere near that with the Steelers.

Steelers were offering $7M/yr. He got $20M from the Jets + a vet min contract. More or less the same over 3 years but no more rings.

I know Faneca left the Steelers in a messy way, but I would still take him over every guard or tackle the Steelers have under contract right now … and next year as well.
