Though David Buehler’s missed extra point on Christmas night has yet to get him fired, it could get him benched.
The Cowboys have announced the acquisition of veteran kicker Kris Brown.
A kickoff specialist in his rookie season, the big-legged Buehler has converted only 77.4 percent of his field goals as the full-time kicker in 2010. He has missed two extra-point attempts, too.
Brown started his career with the Steelers and joined Houston as a free agent in 2002, making him an original Texan. He held the job through 2009. Brown spent three games this year with the Chargers when Nate Kaeding was injured.
Brown’s career field-goal percentage is 77.3, lower than Buehler’s by 0.1 percent.
The next question is whether Brown will get the assignment on Sunday, whether Brown and Buehler will alternate, whether Brown will be available in the event Buehler misses any more chip-shot kicks, and whether either of them will be wearing a silver helmet with a blue star on any day in 2011 beyond January 2.
