Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said quarterback Charlie Whitehurst was his starting quarterback all week. But just as we predicted on Tuesday, it looks like Carroll wasn’t being totally forthright all along.

Matt Hasselbeck took snaps at practice Friday and is listed as questionable to play. So Whitehurst got ready, but Hasselbeck is going to get the call if he’s ready.

Longtime Seahawks observer Mike Sando of ESPN.com now expects Hasselbeck to start.

“Taking some reps in practice Friday tells me Hasselbeck will give it a go Sunday with a playoff spot on the line,” Sando writes. “If his condition worsens or he struggles, at least Whitehurst got ample work [in practice].”

We’re happy to hear this news. It will make more a more interesting game Sunday night and it will provide Hasselbeck a chance to end his excellent 10-year run in Seattle on a better note.
