Merriman’s “exciting news” is a two-year extension with the Bills

Shawne Merriman

Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman dropped on Friday a strong hint that he’d be staying in Buffalo, explaining on Twitter that he had “exciting news” for Bills fans.

Though some Bills fans chimed in that the “exciting news” would be confirmation that he’s leaving Buffalo and never returning, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Merriman has signed a two-year extension with the team.

Bills G.M. Buddy Nix shared the news with Mort.

The terms of this one will be very interesting.  How much is he getting now?  How much will he be paid in 2012?

Merriman has coveted for years a shot at the open market.  The Bills made him an offer that caused him to defer that opportunity.  The fact that Merriman’s agent wasn’t the one to leak the news along with the numbers tells us that the numbers may not be all that impressive.

He a ‘Roid head who can’t stay healthy. What’s that worth? If they gave him much more than an average, or below average, deal for his position they are nuts. Yes, he has a reputation, but he also maybe earned that with a little help ;) AND he can’t stay healthy.

Apparently in Buffalo, even bad news is exciting.

Seems more like “depressing news,” for everyone envolved.

Trying to stay on a positive note, if he can get healthy and back to his old form, what a bargain deal for the Bills. Previous Chargers players have left the Turner system and found success at other clubs (LT, Michael Turner for instance).

    And there was much rejoicing.

Think about it….the ONLY news in Buffalo is how much it will snow the next day….so ANY other news is “exciting”.

Except for the draft….what news is EVER exciting for the Bills?

Merriman has no leverage as there wouldn’t be many if any teams interested in him. I’m sure the Bills overpaid for him.

One might actually give a rats ass is Shawn Merriman was somehow relevant…

Yesterday’s Headlines: Former aging all pro player goes to Buffalo for lack of better options, gets key to city, plays like crap. Second verse, the same as the first verse.

Sure they stink now, but at least Bills fans can take comfort remembering those four Super Bowls they won with Jim Kelly.

Well I guess the Bills can anticipate the possibility of both the Poz and Merriman sitting on the bench with frequent injuries.

2 years at league minimum and a dozen buffalo wings, and he’d be lucky if he got the wings.

$10 M/2 years. Tough to come off roids and be productive.

I’m sure they’re excited over the prospect of two more years of no production by this roid re-tread.

Nice job Buffalo. This will no doubt make you a contender. This was the elusive piece you needed to put you over the top.

I think I am going to start doing roids and hire a trainer and start playing again. I wonder if I can get a 12 millions dollar deal if I model myself after Shawn!
