We’ve been reporting all week that 49ers President Jed York will promote Trent Baalke to general manager after the 49ers conducted some cursory interviews with out-of-work personnel guys.

Baalke confirmed to the Associated Press Sunday that his interview occurred Saturday. He sounded confident about his chances, and an announcement about Baalke getting the gig could come as soon as Monday.

The 49ers are expected to go hard after Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh. The University of Michigan could be San Francisco’s primary competition for Harbaugh.
