Jets treat Week Seventeen like preseason game

The New York Jets have clinched a Wild Card playoff spot, and will use their Week Seventeen matchup with the Bills as an opportunity to rest up for the postseason. They’ve deactivated quite a few key players.

Inactive for the Jets: Running backs Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson, cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie, safeties James Ihedigbo and Eric Smith, and offensive tackle Damien Woody.

Kellen Clemens is the third quarterback. Look for Mark Sanchez to start, play a few possessions at most, and then give way to Mark Brunell.

Joe McKnight is expected to lead the Jets in carries.

On Buffalo’s side, Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee) is listed as the third quarterback. Brian Brohm will get the start, and be backed up by rookie Levi Brown.

The rest of the Bills’ inactives: Defensive tackle Kellen Heard, wide receivers David Nelson and Donald Jones, defensive tackle John McCargo, offensive tackle Ed Wang, offensive lineman Colin Brown, and tight end Mike Caussin.

I hope this makes them soft…..I hate it when teams just blow off week 17.

Too bad the Bills winning this game means they won’t get Andrew Luck. Too bad losing it doesn’t get them Luck either. Stupid sucky Panthers.

    Mark Brunell is still alive?!
Jesus, he was old 10 years ago.

Wrong move. This will come back to bite the Jets guaranteed. Jets are far from a perfect team right now and Rex Ryan’s remedy is to give everyone a week off? What’s the Jets’ record after a week off again?

Brady’s interview this week on why he would be playing this week was great, saying they still needed things to work on and the only way they’re going to get better is by playing. Also, from Vince Wilfork: “I want to play football, the more you play the more consistent you’ll be. I want to play every game I can. This is crunch time. Anyone who loves the game wants to play.”

That’s the attitude of people who actually WANT to win. Enjoy your one-and-done Jets.

Alright, the Jets are resting their starters! Surely my Bills will win.

Wait, didn’t I say the same thing in 2004-05, when the Steelers did the same thing and a win would have put the Bills in the playoffs? And then the Bills decided to go out and lose?

Well, there goes my optimism. No, not really. Blind faith has carried me this far.

    @ tomservo24:

WOW!..Glad to see you know everthing there is to know about why the Jets are doing what there doing this week!
Maybe ….just maybe…They have other plans..Maybe you will see some NEW things run by some differant members of the offense not seen yet this year?….Tom Brady is right in his thinking and is a GREAT competitor who loves to play.
It doesnt mean that the Jets dont “WANT”to win.
