Niners interviewing Rick Mueller for G.M. job

The “gut” of 49ers owner Jed York continues to direct him toward G.M. candidates who currently aren’t working for other NFL teams.

Per a league source, UFL executive Rick Mueller is interviewing for the job. The team’s potential interest in Mueller was recently reported by Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. Mueller’s most recent experience in the NFL came with the Saints.

Mueller joins Tony Softli, Michael Lombardi, and Ted Sundquist as former NFL execs who have interviewed for the job that many believe will be given to V.P. of player personnel Trent Baalke.

It remains to be seen whether York will try to interview men who currently work for NFL teams, once their respective teams’ seasons end. If he doesn’t and if he hires Baalke, it will confirm the suspicions of many that Baalke was the pre-ordained pick for the job.
