Report: Kubiak will return in 2011

Gary Kubiak AP

Over the past week, momentum had been building toward the Texans keeping coach Gary Kubiak.  There’s now a firm report that, indeed, Kubiak will be back.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Kubiak is safe, and that changes will be made to the defensive coaching staff.  Despite indications that the Texans will be feasting from that which Rosenthall dubbed the Kubiak-Wade Phillips combo platter, Schefter says that the Texans “have other options.”

The biggest practical impediment to hiring Phillips is that the personnel has been compiled to run a 4-3 defense, not Wade’s 3-4.  And so the Texans would have to tweak their defense on the fly in a season that very possibly will feature a reduced offseason program, little or no training camp, and a compressed free-agency period.

Texans football 2011! Another season of mediocrity, crushing disappointment, late-game collapses, and failed expectations! Buy your tickets now!

I think they should hire Wade Phillips. Look at how well running a 3-4 with 4-3 personnel worked out for the Redskins this year.

Thank god I’m not a Texans fan! Although, as a Browns fan, it aint much better obviously.

Oh, and P.S., u can just tell who are suited to be coordinators and not head coaches. Kubiak, Turner, Phillips, Mcdaniels, etc. Why can’t teams see this?

This really isn’t a surprise. Most people (beyond those in Houston) knew Kubiak was not going anywhere.

It’s SO frustrating when your team’s owner is too friggin’ stubborn and\or stupid. Stubborn to continue backing a coach with 1 winning season (9-6) in five years, simply because he doesn’t want to admit he was wrong. Stupid if he really believes all we need is a new defensive coach. I’m not spending any more $$$ on tickets or merchandise till my team’s owner pulls his head out of his…..
