Saints send Chris Ivory to injured reserve

Chris Ivory, Quincy Butler

It won’t make national headlines.  Heck, it’s not even going to be marked as a “top story” in our Ipad App.

But don’t discount the importance of Saints running back Chris Ivory heading to injured reserve Tuesday.  Ivory suffered a foot injury in the team’s season finale, and will be replaced by DeShawn Wynn on the roster.

Ivory brought a new dimension to the Saints backfield this season, showing exceptional power, quick feet, and big play ability.  Ivory led the team with 712 rushing yards this year and averaged 5.2 yards-per-carry.

Pierre Thomas is a better overall player because of his receiving skills, but the Saints have to worry about keeping Thomas healthy.  Other than Drew Brees, there may not be a more important player to the Saints offense this month than Thomas.

The prospective free agent could earn a lot of money with another big playoff run.

Ivory out hurts big time. Time for Reggie to earn some of that 8 million

This is tough news for the Saints. Their main weakness has been the lack of a power running game, and Ivory ran like a mad man (reminded me of Marion Barber from 2 years ago). If they can get Pierre Thomas back though, they will be just fine. Julius Jones fumbled on the goal line last game, so he is worthless, and Deshawn Wynn is a place holder at best. Either way, the Saints are going to destroy Seattle this week so they don’t really have to worry about these issues until the week after when they have to face either the Falcons or the Bears.

Looks like we’ll be drafting a running back. PT is probably gone after this season and Ivory can barely make it through a full game without injuring something. Wouldn’t mind snatching up Ricky Williams in FA for some depth as well.

For a team that literally pissed down their leg and earned a playoff berth, it’s sadly laughable weather has to be factored in since the team is crap.

Bucs crushed ‘em a few weeks back, too.

Maybe you missed the game this season when Ivory surprised us and ran all over us. Do you think Bush or Thomas can replace the power he showed against us?
True, Brees will probably throw for another 4 TDs against us, because we have the worst corners in the league.
But if it is cold and raining, in a loud hostile environment full of fans that know we should not be in the dance but don’t care…anything helps.
Maybe the Saints get their first playoff road win…and maybe they get sent home by the worst playoff team ever.
Either way, gonna be fun to watch. Especially when it will be Hass’s last game in a Hawks uniform.

We’ll find out. Last time to two teams met, Bush and Thomas were sidelined with injuries. Bush showed up big time in the playoffs last year, starting with the Cardinals game.
