It won’t make national headlines. Heck, it’s not even going to be marked as a “top story” in our Ipad App.

But don’t discount the importance of Saints running back Chris Ivory heading to injured reserve Tuesday. Ivory suffered a foot injury in the team’s season finale, and will be replaced by DeShawn Wynn on the roster.

Ivory brought a new dimension to the Saints backfield this season, showing exceptional power, quick feet, and big play ability. Ivory led the team with 712 rushing yards this year and averaged 5.2 yards-per-carry.

Pierre Thomas is a better overall player because of his receiving skills, but the Saints have to worry about keeping Thomas healthy. Other than Drew Brees, there may not be a more important player to the Saints offense this month than Thomas.

The prospective free agent could earn a lot of money with another big playoff run.
