To Scoob776- How the hell would you know that Harbaugh had a hand shake deal with the 49ers? You should go work for a newspaper so you can get paid for these scoops.

To Marcinhouston- Where on earth did you learn that Stanford's logo is a red bird? NOT!

Both Harbaugh and Luck will be fine whenever they leave. Don't count out Stanford keeping Harbaugh. Mr. Arrillaga spent $100 million of his own money to build the new stadium. What's a few million more to keep Harbaugh and the football program rolling?

There’s no difference between Jim and the homeless dude with the deep voice, all over the news that’s now being offered jobs from the Cavaliers.

Both have about the same length resume…

What is it that makes Jim Harbaugh such a hot commodity right now?

Harbaugh was successful as a QB in the NFL. He knows the NFL game. He's young and full of energy. And he's proven he can coach. These combine to make him a rare commodity in the NFL these days.

IMO, Jim Harbaugh will be successful as HC at the NFL level.

The difference between Harbaugh and all of those other coaches is the system he runs. Both offensively and defensively, the schemes that are being implemented at Stanford, translate to the NFL. They're not predicated on having better athletes than the opponent. You can't say the same for any of the other coaches you mentioned. That is most often why college coaches are unsuccessful at the pro level. Harbaugh knows the difference.

Miami has deeper pockets than most NFL teams. It's no sure thing Harbaugh will get as high an offer next year as the one Miami's offering now. If he's in it for the money, he better take what Miami's offering.

I'm just not sure he's worthy of being the highest paid coach in the NFL when he's unproven and Bilichick and Cowher, as well as others, aren't.

This is an interesting development, to say the least.

Harbaugh runs a pro-style offense. None of the other coaches you listed do. That's why he has risen to the top of the stack. No NFL team wants a spread offense coach.

Re: Harbaugh is hotter than all the coaches you name because he has experience playing in the NFL and he runs a nfl style power offense. NFL teams don't want their multi-million dollars QBs running the ball half the time and risking injury every game. Stanford is also known as being a stepping stone for coaches, while Oregon and Auburn have tons of booster money.

Also, Pete Carroll just entered the NFL as the highest paid coach (not including Bill Belichick with his unknown salary). Harbaugh could still easily flop just like Nick Saban, but he appears to be a better fit for the NFL than any of those guys.

Should Harbaugh stay at Stanford and makes a statement that he is committed to his kids and the University’s plans for a National Championship AND just wasn’t comfortable negotiating with Miami while they still had a head coach on the payroll; he comes off as a “stand up guy” and may increase his stock for next year…..just a thought!
-----------

Harbaugh isn't a stand up guy. He had a handshake agreement with the Niners and backed out. Yes it is just business, but stand up guys just don't do that. I am going to laugh when he has the same faith as Saban, Petrino and the long list of college wannabe NFL coaches...

The "reporters" for this site have an obsession about money. Money is not always the answer, there are some people that are not motivated by money.

Luck returned to school proving he values an education more than he does money. Is it not possible that Harbaugh would rather coach those that have NFL dreams vs some that turn into diva's once they get there?

As a Stanford graduate (2 degrees) and long time supporter of Stanford football (the coaches and players). I have to say that the coach and his family would be better off taking a pro job offer or a job at some other place like Michigan. After all, Stanford is a place where the alumni and faculty will support spend millions of dollars to build a SMALLER stadium, to showcase a BAND that is really just a bunch of juvenile delinquents. I was sorry to see Denny Green leave when he did, but did not fault him. Really.

He's hot because he runs a pro style offense, not a spread, because he's been in the NFL, 15 years as a player, and 2 with the Oakland Raiders, because he developed Luck who was not a 5 star recruit, because he understands how to make adjustments to the game plan (see second half Virginia Tech). All that said, offering him more money than any other NFL coach makes is looney tunes.

I have really been trying to figure this out, but what is it that makes Jim Harbaugh such a hot commodity right now as opposed to say, Gene Chizik or Chip Kelly or Chris Petersen or Gary Patterson? All of those guys have been successful coaches for a while. Harbaugh had a great quarterback and has indeed improved the program at Stanford over his 4 years there, but this is his first Bowl victory. Much of that credit must also go to Luck.

I just see this as a lot of marketing hype..."everybody else wants it, so I have to pay more!" That anyone would even suggest that he could enter the NFL as the highest paid coach is ludicrous. One good college season does not an NFL coach make! (see, Steve Spurrier, Lou Holtz, Nick Saban). This type of insanity makes me view the NFL as less about football anymore and more about WWE style marketing hype.

Stanford has a better chance of retaining him than you might think. Having Luck returning, the labor situation in the NFL, his wife's desire to stay in the Bay Area, and some of the deep pockets associated with Stanford make the Miami offer no sure thing.
