Both Harbaugh and Luck will be fine whenever they leave. Don’t count out Stanford keeping Harbaugh. Mr. Arrillaga spent $100 million of his own money to build the new stadium. What’s a few million more to keep Harbaugh and the football program rolling?

Harbaugh was successful as a QB in the NFL. He knows the NFL game. He’s young and full of energy. And he’s proven he can coach. These combine to make him a rare commodity in the NFL these days.

IMO, Jim Harbaugh will be successful as HC at the NFL level.

The difference between Harbaugh and all of those other coaches is the system he runs. Both offensively and defensively, the schemes that are being implemented at Stanford, translate to the NFL. They’re not predicated on having better athletes than the opponent. You can’t say the same for any of the other coaches you mentioned. That is most often why college coaches are unsuccessful at the pro level. Harbaugh knows the difference.

I’m just not sure he’s worthy of being the highest paid coach in the NFL when he’s unproven and Bilichick and Cowher, as well as others, aren’t.

This is an interesting development, to say the least.

I think that is what people would have said this morning about Andrew Luck:

“I’m pretty sure a 7 year contract with 50 million guaranteed trumps any “possible” National Championship.”

Yet stay Luck did.

So who the h** knows what will happen. I’ve given up trying to figure it out.

Harbaugh runs a pro-style offense. None of the other coaches you listed do. That’s why he has risen to the top of the stack. No NFL team wants a spread offense coach.

Also, Pete Carroll just entered the NFL as the highest paid coach (not including Bill Belichick with his unknown salary). Harbaugh could still easily flop just like Nick Saban, but he appears to be a better fit for the NFL than any of those guys.

Should Harbaugh stay at Stanford and makes a statement that he is committed to his kids and the University’s plans for a National Championship AND just wasn’t comfortable negotiating with Miami while they still had a head coach on the payroll; he comes off as a “stand up guy” and may increase his stock for next year…..just a thought!

Harbaugh isn’t a stand up guy. He had a handshake agreement with the Niners and backed out. Yes it is just business, but stand up guys just don’t do that. I am going to laugh when he has the same faith as Saban, Petrino and the long list of college wannabe NFL coaches…

Luck returned to school proving he values an education more than he does money. Is it not possible that Harbaugh would rather coach those that have NFL dreams vs some that turn into diva’s once they get there?

I just see this as a lot of marketing hype…”everybody else wants it, so I have to pay more!” That anyone would even suggest that he could enter the NFL as the highest paid coach is ludicrous. One good college season does not an NFL coach make! (see, Steve Spurrier, Lou Holtz, Nick Saban). This type of insanity makes me view the NFL as less about football anymore and more about WWE style marketing hype.
