Mike Mularkey not interviewing with Broncos

mikemularkey

The Broncos will not be interviewing Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey on Friday after all.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Mularkey has informed the Broncos he will not make the interview on Friday. He will, however, still go through with his previously scheduled interview Saturday with the Browns.

Mularkey hasn’t totally closed the door on the Broncos, but he has apparently decided that he doesn’t want to do back-to-back interviews while he’s also preparing the game plan for the Falcons’ first playoff game. He scheduled his interview with the Browns first and will go through with that one, but the Broncos would have to wait until the Falcons’ postseason is over.

And maybe by the time the Falcons’ postseason is over, Broncos front office boss John Elway will have learned what Mularkey’s first name is.

Too bad, I was looking forward to years of reading posts that the Donks were full of Mularkey.

Seriously? It’s not like Elway called him Julius Mularkey. His name is Mike MulARKey. You’re gonna dog a guy for a tongue twister? I’m so sick of this website, I was unware this was Football with an E! twist.

I guess Elway doesn’t know what he doesn’t know after all.

As a Falcons fan, I appreciate Mularkey putting the Falcons game plan ahead of his own self interests. I’m not sure if this is the best decision for him personally, but I think any Falcon fan who wondered whether MM would be focused can rest assured now.

This guy is a turd of monumental proportions. The word “Quitter” comes to mind, and any organization that would even look at him as head coaching material better think twice. The guy quit as head coach of The Bills, and then blamed his quitting on his kids getting bullied at school for the Bills sucking that season..The guy actually blamed his shortcomings/inability to effectively coach on his kids being Wussies! Yes-The Bills organization/ownership was a total mess at the time, but no one quits as an NFL head coach. He should NEVER get another sniff as head coach. Quitter!

This likely eliminates “Mark” because from the Denver job because Elwood said he wants to have the new coach picked out within a couple weeks. Atlanta would have to lose its first game for that to happen.

AJC reporting that Falcon’s have confirmed he is withdrawing from consideration completely. No interview even after playoffs.

Broncos should now cross Mularkey off their list (not that he should have been on the list in the first place). Move on and consider other candidates, preferably a defensive-minded coach–maybe some of the candidates from two years ago.

Mistaking his name for Mark was an honest mistake………..at least he didn’t prematurely report the death of a HOF QB. Not that anyone would ever do that………right hacks?

“Football with an E! twist”? Seriously? Come on man get a clue.

Everyone knows PFT has long been known as Football with a TMZ twist. Don’t try to change it now, the old timers on here might not be able to handle it. :)

“Mike McGwire” and “Sammy Sooser” dont understand the Elway joke…..

  13. tdrizzle74 says: Jan 6, 2011 12:41 PM

Elway did get Mularkey’s first name wrong. But bringing it up in your stories what…3 times in two days? Maybe you should revert to making fun of the way the guy looks next. Get a life Michael David Smith…whoever the hell you are.

  14. billsfan1 says: Jan 6, 2011 12:52 PM

I think MM pulled his name after ekway fuxked up his name…plain and simple

  15. Jim says: Jan 6, 2011 1:05 PM

I would bail too if the guy in charge didn’t know my first name. It shows Elway doesn’t know much about him, which means Mularkey’s not a serious candidate.

Why take focus away from the playoffs and the Browns gig when you’re chances are slim in Denver?

  16. tdrizzle74 says: Jan 6, 2011 1:07 PM

personally I don’t think the guy can handle being a head coach anyway…and if he does get a gig it will be someplace where the expectations of the fans are low, what better place than Cleveland!

  17. r8rsfan says: Jan 6, 2011 1:17 PM

Ha donk fans – the man chose to interview with the friggin Browns rather than the asno’s. Want to know how much regard your franchise is held within? This should shed some light.

We all know Urban Meyer is going to take that job, right?

Mike can’t make it, but he’s sending his brother Mark in his place.

Adam Schefter’s accuracy is an issue. He reported earlier this week that Marvin Lewis would not be returning as the coach in Cincinnati, and that’s not the first example of his goofs. He’s so eager to be the first to tweet out a scoop that he doesn’t always bother with trying to verify – just takes what his “source” tells him and runs with it.

Just saying that I take Schefter’s reports with a grain of salt. He’s been dead wrong before.

  21. broncobeta says: Jan 7, 2011 7:35 AM

    @pookphi

Schefter has been wrong, but not often. No one expected Marvin Lewis to be back, not even Marvin Lewis. I mean the guy interviewed for other HC jobs.
