Harbaugh once vowed revenge on 49ers

It was December, 1991.  PFT was just a glint in Florio’s eye, and I was six years away from being born.

Jim Harbaugh, Bears quarterback, announced to the world he had a score to settle after losing 52-14 to the 49ers.

“I`ll live to avenge this game-as a player, as a coach, whatever,” Harbaugh told the Chicago Tribune.  “I plan to get revenge somehow.”

More than 16 years later, Harbaugh will get his chance as 49ers head coach.

All he has to do is perform like the previous three 49ers coaches.

(Thanks to the PFT readers that emailed us the link.   You guys are the best.)

You’re 13 years old Gregg? That explains A LOT!!!

  3. j0esixpack says: Jan 7, 2011 6:27 PM

Yeah Greg – you might want to clarify that opening line….

Either that, having seen you on PFT vids we’ll have to question whether someone in the NFL is supplying you with HGH

I’ve never seen a story so mishandled by the media. This whole thing was pathetic. Every single day, Harbaugh was being reported to be going to somewhere, and every time the reports were wrong.

First, he was going to SF… then he was a lock to go to Miami… then he was staying at Stanford… now he is back with SF.

Does this mean that Harbaugh will sign Alex Smith to a six-year $120 million extension?

“They’re going to pay, and pay, and pay……”.

you’re sure it wasnt singletary who vowed revenge?!?

This is so hillarious and should be archived into the most ..xxxx…quotes or articles ever.

This reminds me of Jason Kidd’s quote, “…I will turn this team around 360 degree…” upon getting drafted to the NBA.

The ominous portents followed, one upon the other. First the birth of the child Rosenthal, then the full realization of the PFT threat. Now, can the revenge of Harbaugh be far behind?

  10. awestcave says: Jan 7, 2011 7:07 PM

so Jim Harbaugh probably took this job just to make on his word and sabotage the team.

  11. edhochuli says: Jan 7, 2011 7:26 PM

Could Harbaugh be plotting a sabotage of the 49ers organization? That evil genius!

  12. joetoronto says: Jan 7, 2011 7:29 PM

    This is right there with….

“We want the ball and we’re going to score.”

  13. amanistumor says: Jan 7, 2011 7:35 PM

So he’s going to draft a kicker in the 1st round?

“It was December, 1991 … and I was six years away from being born.” ROFL

    Uh-oh … hope the 49ers don’t regret this.

You idiots! Rosenthal is 30-something… it’s a reference to the fact that he has a boyish face and is built like a 9 year old girl.

Note to Niners ownership…stop hiring Bears players as your HC who were drubbed 52-14.

His “revenge” will be carrying on the great tradition set by, Samurai, his former teammate.

Born in 1997 huh greg with 2 g’s? That explains it all, and explains a lot about this website. Great job by all involved!

Also said Harbough in a recent interview “We are going to install the veer and use primarily a wishbone backfield. We will use all power backs. We will wear out teams. Defensively we are going outside the box there and playing with no lineman or linebackers. This has become a passing league and we will employ only safeties and corners…Bwahahahaha..er..sorry I had a little hiccup there. We also think the archaic use of a dedicated QB needs to come to an end….”

Am I the only one that noticed this:

“It was December, 1991…I`ll live to avenge this game-as a player, as a coach, whatever…More than 16 years later, Harbaugh will get his chance”

Because it seems to me, and correct me if I’m wrong, that if you do the math, from December 1991 to January 2011 is 22 years, not 16. Is the writer of this article so bad at math that he can’t figure that out?

  24. Deb says: Jan 8, 2011 2:01 PM

    @phantom9498 …

December 1991 to January 2011 is slightly more than 20 years, not 22. People who can’t add shouldn’t throw stones.

The writer of this article is joking with regular readers about his boyish appearance. Stop being a twit. It’s not like he’s in charge of the economic recovery.
