Lions player faces charges of sexual assault

The four-game winning streak that ended the 2010 season for the Detroit Lions has been tempered by a claim that a member of the team committed sexual assault while possibly celebrating the team’s unlikely run of success on Monday night.

Per various media reports, an unnamed Lions player faces a claim that he had inappropriate sexual contact with a woman at the Ironwood Grill in Plymouth, Michigan.

“The police have not released the player’s identity and for that reason neither will we,” said the alleged victim’s attorney, Michael Jaafar, per FOX 2 in Detroit.  “We can confirm publicly that we represent the young lady that was the victim of the assault.  We can also confirm that there were many people at the bar at the time of the incident and that the player was forced to leave the bar after the incident.”

No charges have been filed.

  1. OH NO she is represented BY JAAFAR!!!! Wait a second didn’t Aladin trap him in the lamp a few years back? Man that guy makes more come backs than Farve.

  2. He was just seen leaving the place with Worthelisberger…Ben was giving lessons on how to win a girls heart….(for one night)

Actually, instead of jumping to conclusions I’m going to wait until the facts come out and check if the alleged victim’s story passes the smell test. What a novel idea, huh?

  4. A spokesman for the NFL said, “no prob, we’ll ‘fast-track’ our investigation like we did for Favre, and we’ll be well into the lock out next year. Everyone knows, only Ben Roethlisberger gets nailed, everyone else skates. And the funny thing is, he wasn’t even charged with anything! Woo hoo, it’s great to be us!”

  5. What ever occurred cannot be too serious if there were so many people at the bar at the time and the player was simply asked to leave afterwards. I can’t imagine that the player raped the young woman or anything close to it, this must be something along the lines that he groped her or something. I am not trivializing if he did indeed inappropriately touch her or something, but using words like “sexual assault” and “inappropriate sexual contact” are loaded statements to make people think of rape. It is likely more appropriate just to say that he inappropriately touched her as there I am assuming there was no “sexual” contact.

  6. Headlines reads “Lions player faces charges of sexual assault”

and the last line reads “No charges have been filed”

    Soooo which one is it?

  7. I’m old enough to remember that when the Lions were semi good, once in a while a story would pop up concerning a incident like this. They have been so bad for so long, that there have’nt been too many reports. I hope that their new winning ways, don’t follow with more new reports of this crap! Please grow up guys and enjoy what the future may bring you! Damn!

  8. If it has to be somebody on this rebuilding team, hopefully, it’s a 2nd or 3rd stringer. The Lions really don’t need anymore mishaps.

Whoever it is, kick the predator to the curb.

  9. As a lion fan I want to know who this is and if these allegations are true I don’t care if it’s a hall of fame type player I want him off this team now.

  10. “No charges have been filed.”

Oh so then we know it’s at least a 6 game suspension that can be reduced to 4, right Roger? Oh wait, he’s probably not a star QB, so you don’t have to do anything.. Carry on!

    ======================

Or we can do what most of the neanderthals on this site do and accuse the victim of being a gold digging whore without knowing any of the facts.

The breakdown will probably go something like this:

    Lions Fan: He’s innocent

Bear, Packer, Viking Fan: He’s guilty

Steelers Fan: Use it as another excuse to whine about Big Ben’s suspension

Facing charges means that there is the potential for charges, but none have been filed yet. How badly I want to do what everyone else did to Roethlisberger and say this guy assaulted the woman, but I will be the intelligent person that I am and say, let’s wait to see what happens. This is America and we are INNOCENT until proven guilty in a court of law… Yeah yeah yeah… O.J. got off wooooo, don’t throw that single case on the table and expect it to change the way normal people think, mouth breathers…

  13. In an article on the freep site, the lawyer says their goal is a civil suit and the cop said it’s not rape or anything like that. Sounds like someone is money hungry to me!

  14. If you’re wealthy, young and in shape, you don’t need to force the issue. Especially in Plymouth, Michigan. What the hell is with these guys?

If you’re so interested in reality, you would know why Steelers fans gripe about Ben’s suspension. He was the first player in the league to ever be suspended under the personal conduct policy without being so much as arrested. The Rooneys would have punished him if the league hadn’t done anything, but the NFL has proven its hypocrisy since then by doing nothing when repeat offenders get into trouble and not making a peep when players like Eric Foster and this one are accused. If you’re going to suspend on person who was merely accused of a crime, why not make the punishment uniform? If that happened I would be totally satisfied.

  16. @cup1981,

You don’t seem very bright, so I’m going to be gentle with you (Gentle Ben?). If that is your definition of facing charges, then every player in the league regardless of circumstance has the potential for charges, and could be subjected to just such an erroneous headline. The fact is that the headline is typically sensational and intentionally misleading.

Sycophants like you are why sycophants like them feel comfortable abusing every rule of decency, common sense and professionalism. Keep up the great work!

  17. Plymouth Det. Jamie Grabowski told The Detroit Free Press, “It’s not a rape charge or anything like that.

More than likely it was a butt grab or a boob grab. The guy forgot that he was in Plymouth and not Rick’s in Ann Arbor (is Rick’s still open?).

This is the biggest thing to happen in Plymouth since it rained on their ice sculptures.

@jameswestphal — if you’re young, wealthy, and in shape … you’re not hanging out in Plymouth! Ha!

  18. @jimmylions

Have you ever been to Plymouth? Lol the exact scene on a typical Friday night is the 21-35 yr old crowd that has some money burning a hole in their pocket. Not sure where you’re getting your info about the city
