Champs on the ropes in Seattle

Seattle Seahawks v San Diego Chargers Getty Images

If this is Matt Hasselbeck’s last game in Qwest Field, he’s going out in style.

The Seahawks lead 34-20 late in the third quarter, largely because of Matt Hasselbeck’s pinpoint passing.   The Seahawks out-scored the Saints 10-0 in the third quarter following Hasselbeck’s 38-yard strike to Mike Williams and an Olindo Mare field goal.

The amazing part is Seattle could easily be leading by more.  A pair of drops and a delay of game penalty on an aborted field goal attempt potentially took points off the board.

Seattle stands 15 long minutes away from one of the biggest Wild Card weekend upsets in recent memory.

Only Drew Brees stands in their way.  (Gulp)

Seahawks had record number of player turnover this year. This is a REBUILDING season, and really they should not be in the playoffs.

In a few years they will be really polished and dangerous.

  2. belicheckyoself says: Jan 8, 2011 7:23 PM

There’s a lot of Oldies on that team for a rebuilder.

That PI no call was pretty lousy. The unsportsmanship was REAL stupid. SEA had them, but is giving it away.

I don’t know what you are talking about fumblenuts. Division Champs always belong in the playoffs. I do agree with you though on your other point, The Seahawks are just getting started.

Glad to see that you guys are on top of things.

    @fumblenuts

You are right but for the wrong reasons! …you are right because at 7-9 NO ONE should be in the playoffs!

  6. hojo20 says: Jan 8, 2011 7:34 PM

I hope this isn’t another painful playoff loss for the Seahawks.

  7. benh999 says: Jan 8, 2011 7:36 PM

If only Mayock would stop using words with the “S” sound. Still better than Crisco though.

  8. tmb333 says: Jan 8, 2011 7:43 PM

Rest assured, Walt Colemans officiating crew will make sure the Saints have every chance possible to come back and win. I could careless who wins this game but I am tired of seeing #91 of Seattle getting held.

Holy freakin’ cow!!!!!! Who’d have thunk it???? You go, Seahawks! :)

  10. tmb333 says: Jan 8, 2011 7:46 PM

I retrack…I don’t think he can help them now.

    bush what? oh injured again.

  12. oumoonunit says: Jan 8, 2011 7:46 PM

That Lynch TD just showed who should win the game.

Are these the worst football announcers ever? It’s painful listening to this on TV. Are they usually on west coast games (I’m on E Coast, so that’s my only explanation.) there are 4 games this weekend. I’m at a total loss as to why these guys are doing the game.

  14. harrisonhits2 says: Jan 8, 2011 7:48 PM

Mayock’s giving the best analysis of any commentator all year. The first time I can stand to listen to the network people during the game.

ROFL at the “Seahags” slip he made though.

41-30 3:00 left in the 4th, It appears the “Champs” are gonna be 1 and done, but Brees has pulled some miracles our of his hat.

Seattle stands 15 long minutes away from one of the biggest Wild Card weekend upsets in recent memory.

In recent memory are you nuts? Ever is more like it. The Seahawks are the worst team in playoff history while the Saints are the defending Superbowl Champions. It is literally impossible for a team to be a bigger under dog ( Unless some how in the future a 6-10 team makes the playoffs).

  17. wetpaperbag2 says: Jan 8, 2011 7:53 PM

WOW! Marshawn Lynch with the stiff arm/straight arm/shove of THE SEASON on that late 4th quarter touchdown run! Lynch made Tracy Porter his b*tch! Porter got b*tched!!! LOL

@Gregg – “Seattle stands 15 long minutes away from one of the biggest Wild Card weekend upsets in recent memory.”

    +++++++++++++++++++++

Don’t worry Rosie – when Hasselbeck leads them to a Super Bowl berth ala Kurt Warner and the Cards, the Seahawks will no longer have a losing record.

  19. vikesfan1 says: Jan 8, 2011 7:54 PM

HA HA AINTS no refs , no hurricane to help ya this year! What a way to defend a title you never earned in the first place!

  20. macjacmccoy says: Jan 8, 2011 7:55 PM

You gotta love that Fat Punk Kicker if your a Seahawks fan. Worst onsides kick I have ever seen.

  21. gmbiii says: Jan 8, 2011 7:55 PM

not that these boneheads would ever say anything, but why did NO call their first timeout – after the time had run on the playclock while Seattle had the ball? There was no strategic reason – and now they’re in desperate need.

  22. skunkgoosefly says: Jan 8, 2011 7:56 PM

Saints sure did lay an egg. Pathetic.

I hope this finally puts the utopian “playoff reseeding” nonsense to rest.

  26. bleedgreen71018222558 says: Jan 8, 2011 8:01 PM

Stupid seahawks. They don’t deserve to be in the playoffs much less win a game. I hope the next team they play destroys them 49-0 and they draft nothing but busts for the next decade. And I’m not even a Saints fan, i just think the Seachickens and their phony playoff run is a complete joke.

    Seahawks to The Big Game™

    Tastes like chicken.

    I can’t spell either…

  30. belicheckyoself says: Jan 8, 2011 8:54 PM

    On the announcers:
NBC really only needs one team of commentators because they usually only have one game a week.

It’s the first time I ever Wanted to hear Chris Collinsworth.

  31. longdrivesaint says: Jan 8, 2011 9:27 PM

I’m sick of the friggin’ idiots that think Goodell gave the SB last year to the Saints. If that was the case we would’ve won it in 06′(the year after Katrina). Now we won that SB fair and square. Some of you know NOTHING about football, but quick to jump on Mike Vick’s jock strap or jump in Romos lap. Yeah we got beat today by a team that had nothing to lose. Our D let us down big time, but the better team won TODAY.

  32. superhawk12 says: Jan 9, 2011 12:35 AM

Bleedgreen, would you please bleed out already. Figures you’re an Eagles fan. Throw any snowballs at Santa lately? You keep on hoping that the Seahawks lose big, just like everyone thought they would today, and choke on every word of it when they win.

    @ longdrivesaint
Last years Saints was one of the toughest, meanest, most talented, skilled and just flat out ballsy football teams ever. I respect them winning big time, even if I do despise all the clowns that jumped on in 09, and have no love for that city.
Respect to the team and respect to the old school fans though.
