WTF is up with you and your skeptical cohorts, Mike? I think there is some Genuine Jealosy going on here. You & your PFT pals are convienently Avoiding the Fact that John Elway is a HOF quarterback, and played in the NFL for SIXTEEN years, and retired as Super Bowl MVP. As an owner, he also won the AFL Championship, and there in fact ARE parallels with the AFL/NFL. He has shown an uncanny ability to succeed in whatever endeavor he undertakes.

Skepticism is Easy and a Cop Out, Mike. Have the stones to own your latent jealosy and quit projecting your insecurity issues on John Elway and the Denver Broncos. Wait 2-3 years before your pass judgement on this situation.

Elway went to Stanford, so he is no dummy. Also, his dad was a coach. As a QB, you need to know what defenses are doing. So he knows offense and defense. The key, is his scouting department, not Elway himself. You need good scouts and good decision makers. But give the guy a chance. I think he is qualified for the job. I mean everyone here thinks they can do the job and have never taken a snap in the NFL

Besides this being a non-story, it’s amazing how the petty bitterness continues to overwhelm each of your Denver updates. Why all the hate for Elway? Did he sleep with your sister and never call her back? Let it go! This isn’t news. The guy’s been on the job less than a week! I’m pretty sure they’ve given him enough rope to seal his fate if he pulls a “Millen.” Let this thing play out & work on getting your own corner office overlooking the Pop Warner fields!

All of those are right except Carrol. He was also the head coach of the Jets and Patriots. Otherwise, you make a great point.

NEVER has a coach won superbowls with two different teams. So why would it make sense to go after Cowher, Gruden, Dungy, Billick, etc??? And when you look at those coaches, you could make the argument that the Steelers, Bucs, Colts and Ravens are better now without those coaches. Well maybe not the Colts, but definitely the other three.

So Mike, it doesn’t really matter what coach is popular with the media, all that matters is which coach will get them to the Super Bowl. And odds are Elways is interviewing candidates who have a better chance of doing that than the big names.

How is Shanhan working out in Washington?

Mike, your strangely intense animosity towards Elway is clouding your judgment and putting you out on a limb all by yourself on this one. I have not seen any other authoritative(?) and or credibile commentators adopt your same line of thinking on this one. And, normally, you at least try to support your opinions with at least one or two relevant facts. However, when it comes to Elway and the Broncos you are just ranting. Im guessing you were a Colts fan back when Elway told them to go pound sand?

The question is, will a strong-willed, confident coach want to work for John Elway? Will he want Elway looking over his shoulder, deciding whether he knows what he’s doing? Coaches desperate for a HC job will go for it – but will guys with options settle for it?

The NFL is a “talent acquisition” league now. Parcells said that as VP of operations for the Miami Dolphins. Then he proceeded to show that he is unable to indentify talent by making mistake after mistake; Chad Henne, Pat White etc….Josh McDaniels came to Denver and proceeded to unload all the talent without having NFL talent to replace. Why not give Elway a chance? He can not do much worse than a guru like Parcells did. The hell with front office experience. All Elway needs is a business manager close by. He has been around the NFL long enough.

There’s a reason why Marino opted not to become a part of the Dolphins even though they would have given him carte blanche. He knew he was out of his element.

There’s also a reason why the Lions are still in the crapper despite the best of efforts by Mayhew and Schwartz. Millen buried that team so far under his poor picks that it will take half a decade to get them back to respectability.

Elway may have experience with the AFL, but has he made his way up the ladder like Newsome did? The Broncos are in for a rough ride.
