#1: Maybe there will be, but not worth the risk of losing him now. If there is a lockout, and he was to remain under contract, Raiders would not need to pay him, anyway. And they would maintain exclusive post-lockout negotiating rights (until the next round of free agency).
#2: They have plenty of cap space, considering all of their expiring contracts.
#3: A CB who “doesn’t make big plays” because other teams don’t throw at him is even more valuable to a team defense. Ask any player/coach if they would take an occasional int over having the other team’s best playmaker eliminated from the gameplan. And he tackles.

Then maybe JDR can’t keep saying BS like “rebuilding” or “we’ve done the best with what we have to work with”…what head coach actually says crap like that?

He’s a good player but his contract will be poison to a team. His price tag will mean too many sacrifices in other positions.

No way Steelers pay this much for one player. If this was basketball, one player makes a lot of difference but not so in football where you have 22 starters.

If Nnamdi opted out, it means that he has no contract right now. While I’m sure he’ll get a huge FA contract, it most likely won’t be like the one he’s leaving behind. This one came about because the Raiders had to keep franchising him because the two sides could never come to an agreement. So, they cut to the chase and gave him a contract based on the accelerated franchise tag. So, basically, this contract has been a series of franchise tags, except that it left the real franchise tag available for other players.

If the opt out was automatic, then Nnamdi might be back. If Nnamdi had to exercise the clause, then he’s gone. The move wouldn’t have been made to make more money. No new contract will pay him what the final year of his current one would have. Nnamdi is an elite player who is now 30. He’s made quite a bit of money already. While I’m sure he still wants to get paid big, I’d guess that the opportunity to play on a team with a real chance to compete for a championship will play a big part in his decision.

Firing Tom Cable isn’t going to be a problem for the Raiders as most people believe they are headed for a locker room meltdown because he’s gone. The Raiders changed their physicality this year because of Hue Jackson, not Cable. As soon as Hue Jackson names a OC to replace him and call plays, the fact Cable was fired will no longer be a big issue at Raiders headquarters anymore. People tend to forget although the Raiders won 8 games this year, they should’ve won 11 against the weak schedule. Cable isn’t head coach material and struggles in key areas. Jackson should be much better in these areas. If not Jackson, Al might hire some other head coach who allows Jackson to continue his offense since he’s still under contract as OC.

This is a good thing.
1. There will be a lockout.
2. Frees up cap space just in case.
3. He never makes “big plays” because other teams don’t throw at him.
4. Adam Schefter is a tool.

That’s going to make it difficult for teams like the Skins, Cowboys, and Jets to take on any more massive contracts. Though I still think Snyder will find a way to swing it.

If this doesn’t convince Al Davis he must give up his stranglehold on this once great franchise and hire a G.M. to run this team properly then nothing truly ever will. I sincerely hope Nnamdi returns but I highly doubt it. Dude’s a winner, a true team player & leader, and his departure, when it occurs, will be the diffinitive statement to prove my latter point regarding the Al Davis.

The Raiders lack of direction will be the tipping point for Nnamdi Asomugha to leave and have a real chance at winning a championship before it is too late for him. Why else would he have his reps place this out-clause in his contract? It oblviously doesn’t appear to be in cards for the Raiders in the next few years contenders, realistically. I’m optimistic things can turn out good for the Raiders but recent history has said otherwise.

I’m not kidding, Asomugha will be a Redskin almost for sure.

i like Hue Jackson, but he is not going to win with that defense minus Nnamdi.

Step 1) fire the preacher (check)
Step 2) hire a new gm (kinda a check)
Step 3) hire a big time coach (major check) and after reavaluting step 2 ( check)
Step 4) shore up only glaring hole on roster other than QB which is CB by signing Nnamdi (crossing fingers)
Step 5) Sign, trade or draft at QB (and crossing toes as well as eyes)

Again. My apologies to Jed York. Won’t repeat what I said about him after hiring Balki as GM cause my mother would be embarrassed… again. Major kudos to landing Harbaugh with a discounted rate over Stanford and Miami.

So, Nnamdi has to be pizzed….who else is going to pay him the average of the top 5 QB’s???? He’s in line for a paycut unless Davis steps up again.

Plus how is Davis the dumb one here? He puts a clause in the contract that if you don’t acheive what most people would consider extremely conservative objectives, you don’t get 16 million dollars next year.

Baseball should write some similar contracts…..

That said – if Al wants him back…he’ll be back. If not, combine that salary save with the dollars saved from not paying a 1st round pick – and he can go FA shopping at will.
