John Harbaugh: I’m glad Ravens broke Ben Roethlisberger’s nose

NFL Divisional Playoffs - Baltimore Ravens v Indianapolis Colts

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was left with a broken nose when Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata drilled him last month. The NFL fined Ngata $15,000, but Ravens coach John Harbaugh doesn’t think his team should feel any remorse.

“He’s a tough guy,” Harbaugh said of Roethlisberger. “He had the broken nose. I was glad we broke his nose and then I was very impressed that he played through it. Obviously, you can throw very effectively with a broken nose – he proved that.”

Harbaugh says he expects his players to go after Roethlisberger on Saturday the same way they did in December.

“[W]e’re going to try to get after him like we always do,” Harbaugh said. “It’s going to be real important, and he knows that. That’s a key to stopping him. You’ve got to get him down.”

And if the Ravens take Roethlisberger down too hard, Harbaugh is OK with that.

This asshat fits in perfectly with that team. What a joke.

They’re gonna break his neck this time. Ravens win will – guaranteed

  3. laxer37 says: Jan 10, 2011 7:29 PM

Funny how Harbaugh has now completely changed his stance on illegal hits.

Before the last game he said the Ravens played football the “right way” and was appalled that guys like James Harrison “didn’t get it”. Now he is openly celebrating an illegal hit that caused one of his players $15,000.

  4. canetic says: Jan 10, 2011 7:30 PM

To be fair I think 99% of America was happy that the Ravens broke his nose.

  5. cornellsteelers says: Jan 10, 2011 7:33 PM

Perfect. I knew I could count on the Ravens to shoot their mouths off like they do every week before they play us.

  6. darthvader89 says: Jan 10, 2011 7:37 PM

Harbaugh approved of roughing up the other QB and if that tacitly violates the premise of one of the NFL’s dozens of pacifier rules for QBs then who gives a sh!# anyway.

  7. johntonioholmes says: Jan 10, 2011 7:38 PM

I hope they break his nose again just to prove that the refs still won’t call a penalty for hitting Roethlisberger illegally.

Then I hope Flacco fractures his unibrow.

I’m not a Ravens fan but Haloti Ngata’s hit on Toothlesspooper wasn’t intentional! It’s not like his goal was to hit him in the face and break his nose! That’s why he was only fined $15k by the league instead of $25-50k like Harrison. Harrison tries to hurt people and he leads with his helmet so it’s a little different! Him and polamop have both made comments in the past about their job being to hurt people! If that’s your goal then expect to get fined almost weekly!

  10. jhorton83 says: Jan 10, 2011 7:40 PM

With all the attention his brother has been getting, I guess John Harbaugh felt the need to say something controversial to get some attention himself.

  11. 8man says: Jan 10, 2011 7:41 PM

I don’t want to be “nosey”, but I’m guessing Harbaugh didn’t send Ben a get well card.

  12. intelligentfan says: Jan 10, 2011 7:41 PM

If it ends up being his QB with a broken beak, how would he feel then?

  13. jstrizzle says: Jan 10, 2011 7:42 PM

It is like the Ravens did what everyone in America wanted to do. Thank you Baltimore Ravens.

  14. igottz5onit says: Jan 10, 2011 7:42 PM

Hey can’t blame harbaugh for being proud of his team hitting hard, i feel the same about the Steelers. But it was kinda funny how he tongue-in-cheek poked fun at the Steelers prior to the last Steelers-ravens game about not adapting to the new rule adaptations, while hos team went on to make some of the most questionable hots of the season minutes later.

  15. sackattacker says: Jan 10, 2011 7:46 PM

If that comment was made by J. Harrison, it would have immediately drawn a 50,000 fine.

I guess that old ‘steelers bounty’ at Baltimore begins with the head of that mafia, called Harbaugh.

    Goodell where are you?

  16. Bubby Brister says: Jan 10, 2011 7:50 PM

YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP, the Ravens and all of their fans will go back into hiding Saturday night. Just like they did 4 weeks ago and just like they do year after year. It’s like they all caught foot-in-mouth syndrome from Rex Ryan while he was still coaching down there. What a terrible disease it must be to constantly run your mouth and get made a fool for it, time and time again.

  17. lawyermalloy says: Jan 10, 2011 7:50 PM

  20. gogronk says: Jan 10, 2011 7:53 PM

    Clueless.

  22. swinbun says: Jan 10, 2011 7:56 PM

Great, let Harbum run his mouth all week. Just extra motivation for the Steelers. This should be a close, hard fought game, but in the end Flacco and Ray Ray will implode.

Ray Ray is destined to never get back to and win a Super Bowl after his role in a murder.

I guess if that happens next season they will have to add Randy Moss and Ochocinco to the roster.

  33. cup1981 says: Jan 10, 2011 8:09 PM

Wow, Harbaugh… Pretty classy of you. How about we send Casey Hampton over there to break your nose, see if you can coach with it. Nah, how about they just break Flacco’s nose instead then hear you cry because he can’t play with a busted up nose.

Go ahead and rush Roethlisberger. He plays better on the run and when being hurried, if you haven’t noticed. He loves pressure because it makes him use his instincts, and he seems to play better that way. There is an easy way to beat Ben, that all of Pittsburgh’s fans know…. Too bad no one can seem to perfect it.

I hope you enjoyed your one playoff win, it ends this week! :D

    —————————————————-

Hey numbnuts, have you ever played organized football before. Your goal is to hurt [inflict pain] people all the time, but you never want to injure them. Inflicting pain makes them think twice before making that catch or taking a hit instead of running out of bounds. That is EXACTLY what Harrison said “I don’t want to see anyone injured,” Harrison said, “but I’m not opposed to hurting anyone.”

“There’s a difference. When you’re injured, you can’t play. But when you’re hurt, you can shake it off and come back. I try to hurt people.”

Plus, Polamalu has never ever said he wants to hurt people. When do you EVER hear that guy talk? Never, except in Head & Shoulders ads.

  38. chfranco says: Jan 10, 2011 8:18 PM

Ngata broke roethlisberger’s nose on purpose. Had he he not purposefully karate chopped Ben he would not have gotten through the face mask. He just would have hit him in the face mask.

  39. themightyraven says: Jan 10, 2011 8:18 PM

I hope someone else noticed the only reason Rothelsberger broke his nose is that the guy only buckles one chin strap. If his chin strap was buckle ngata’s arm would have bounced off his face mask. Rd3. Sunday

  40. gforce90 says: Jan 10, 2011 8:19 PM

Most people would like to break more than his nose, no big deal here. Typical Steeler fans looking for an edge…but deep down inside, in dark places they aren’t smart enough to find, Steeler fans are scared that the Ravens are coming to town. Come 7:30 Saturday night it will be nothing but packing for next year Pittsburgh. We will now turn the WR’s loose on your secondary like New England did. I know, you will all mouth off that the time we beat you in Pittsburgh this year Ben wasn’t playing. But Ed Reed wasn’t playing either – even.

  41. 1historian says: Jan 10, 2011 8:24 PM

It’ll be nice for us Pats fans to watch the Steelers and Ravens kick the s… out of each other, then Sunday eve the Pats make mincemeat out of the jets and whoever is left standing from the Baltimore Pittsburgh game gets to come to New England and get stomped.

Not that it will be necessary – we’ve already beaten all 3 of them.

He beat you with a broken nose. Ravens barely beat the Steelers with a 4th string Quarterback. OOPS. and lost at home. Flacco will choke as usual in the big game I also thing Harbaugh should be fined severely for violating NFL policy by inciting dirty hits.

  46. ottomanismydog says: Jan 10, 2011 8:39 PM

After years of playing against the Ravens I have come respect the key players, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Suggs – Reading this quote from Harbaugh it shows his true lack personality, class and intelligence. Everyone who has any real football intellgence knows the AFC North is the best conferance in football – this saturday both teams will prove that. But when you fuel the blast fernace with cheap talk, you’re bound to get burned.

    You know what it is…

    Well said. (Sarcasm.)

If Ray Lewis or Bart Sco…I mean Terrell Suggs had said this, it would have been funny and helped create a more entertaining atmosphere for the game. But since it was a head coach, I think it’s kind of a jerky thing to say. He isn’t playing so it’s easy for him to say stuff like that, but I doubt Flacco appreciates it.

  79. bspn2 says: Jan 10, 2011 10:22 PM

Of course John Hairball is glad that Ngata broke Roethlisberger’s nose. Hairball is a dirty coach and he condones this type of ‘headhunting’ behavior from the Ravens. He just looks the other way when his players try to purposely injure their opponents. The Ravens are notorious for playing dirty.

Simply put…Harbaugh’s comments are nothing more than “idiocy fodder” for knuckleheads. Gnata was going after Roethlisberger’s face with the intent to hurt him early. Hands to the Face is an unquestionable penalty. There’s no gray area, no differing of opinion, there’s no debate about him being “too high” or “too early”. This was nothing more than an NFL sanctioned on field penalty. Steelers make clean, legal hits & get flagged. Steelers opponents cheat with the help of the refs. Regardless of what teams are on the field, fairness is the only thing that matters. Otherwise, it’s no better than watching stupid WWF.

Honestly, SOME of you Steeler fans have to be the stupidest people on earth. It’s pretty sad how the article is right in front of you, and you’re slow minds have the ability to completely change what Harbaugh is saying, into what you simply see as insulting. Must be something in the water….

Stop making a big deal out of nothing. He also said that he was impressed how Jen played through it. You don’t need to sift to find bulletin board material. The series is the best rivalry in football.

And for the idiot Steeler fan who said “We own the Ravens”, your are managing to count the first few years we were in the league.

In the last 17 games the Squealers have won 9 and the Ravens 8. They have scored the same amount of point, generated on average the same amount of yards and average about the same amount of turnovers. It is about as even as a series can be.

Give it a break. Lets just watch it and enjoy the rivalry. Stop getting your panties in a bunch because Harbs said he was glad Ben’s nose was broken. It didn’t hurt him anyway. The guy was ugly as catpuke before and it didn’t change his appearance.

Not that the Steelers need any BB material for this game, but this provided it. And BTW, can you imagine what Joey Porter would be saying right now?!

This is THE game of the week!! Notwithstanding the fact that both teams are really good, and the one that one wins will likely win the Super Bowl (oh yes!), I fully expect the Steelers, who IMHO have the better team overall and are playing better right now, to beat the Ravens. Ben will be out to rub it in Harbaugh’s face, literally! And Harrison will be out to play like he always does, with Harbaugh’s stated approval now of course!

  92. Deb says: Jan 10, 2011 11:17 PM

    @iamthefootballjerk …

Yes, I appreciate Harbaugh’s nod to Roethlisberger’s toughness. It’s not what he said that angered me. It’s what he said in the context of previously making smarmy comments about how his players have been coached to hit within the strike zone … and soon lesser teams will figure it out, too. Then when Ngata deliberately (as the replay clearly shows) took a shot at Roethlisberger’s face and McClain nearly decapitated Miller, Harbaugh was incredulous.

Oh my … did they suddenly move the strike zone? No. His players are no better coached than anyone else’s. And now we discover, worse, they’re apparently coached to take whatever shot they can at tough opposing QBs, strike zone be damned.

It’s the hypocrisy I can’t stand. Either they’re little angels who’ve been taught to hit within the strike zone or they’re tough beasts who’ve been told to do whatever damage is necessary. More likely it’s somewhere in the middle … just like everyone else. And Harbaugh should stop running his mouth.

So if I were you douches, I’d be less worried about Bens nose and more about his arm. Get ready to be disappointed once again, Baltimore.

Harbs, like most coaches not named Ryan, rarely gives anything to the media. Not that I doubt the reporting here, but this is very unusual for him.

    * * * * * FURTHER FACT CHECKING * * *

Looked at the hyper link in the story, Harbs was joking with this remark. Seems as though Big Ben and Harbs went to the same college. The Baltimore Sun, Edward Lee quote is as follows:

“Harbaugh also took a good-natured jab at Roethlisberger, praising the former Miami of Ohio quarterback for his toughness.

“He’s a Miami guy,” said Harbaugh, who also played for the RedHawks as a defensive back. “He’s a tough guy. He had the broken nose. I was glad we broke his nose and then I was very impressed that he played through it. Obviously, you can throw very effectively with a broken nose – he proved that.””

    Very misleading PFT. Very misleading!

  98. steelerzzzrule says: Jan 10, 2011 11:39 PM

Lets see. Ben’s record vs the browns. I mean colts. I mean ravens. What ever you call you team these days. 7-2. Raven have not beat Ben since the 06 season. They’re gonna have to break a lot more than his nose to stop him.

He was joking with his fellow Univ. of Miami (ohio) alum, Rothlisberger. Taken out of context with no reference to the “tongue in cheek” delivery by Harbaugh.

You all are (commenting) are so dumb for not checking this out. It was a JOKE! Give Harbaugh credit. He’s smarter than Ryan.

Oh that’s right. You commentors on here don’t get a joke unless you can make about relatives with addiction issues who make stupied life ending decisions. That’s funny, right? Twisted you all are.

Glad you told us,you guys will come after Ben…Geez,I bet he is real scared,i hope he still shows up on Saturday….Geez John….You think James Harrison or Lamar Woodley will come after Flacco also? The difference is Flacco looks at the rush, does it all the time, and he doesn’t like it..

.Roetlhlisberger relishes it!!! Escaping it,and breaking loose from it, is all part of his game…Thats part of the reason he has 2 superbowl rings on his fingers and an 8-2 post season record….I actually respect Jon Harbaugh and like him as a coach, but if he thinks he is gonna intimidate #7,or the Steelers in any way,he’s got another guess coming…

  102. rosierugby says: Jan 11, 2011 12:14 AM

No one in Pittsburgh is scared, so bring it.

As for the rapist name-calling, give it a break already. You don’t know what happened that night with the girl and Ben. Fame and fortune gets to people, but he does seem to be making a change.

As for people who cry about Steelers making comments about wanting to hurt players when they play, well that’s football. The sport would not involve tackling if it was meant to be nice. If you’re going to whine about that then you’ve obviously never played a competitive contact sport, and you don’t understand, so shut up about it already. You don’t think Ray is trying to inflict pain when he plays? Please.

Yes, Steeler fans do say “us” and “we” when we refer to the team. That’s a pride and a love for a team that you don’t understand, cause your original team ran away from your city. You don’t get it, so stop b*tching about it. As far as I can tell you are jealous of a team and a city with tradition and history of great football.

Oh, and don’t lump all Steeler fans together and say they we’re all whining, because no one is. We are just saying that Harbaugh is a classless jerk, which he has proven. As an athlete and a coach, I would never say anything like that, especially to the media. More than anything he has shown his stupidity.

So, are you the epitome of perfection and have never referred to your team as we? Or are you simply not a fan? Or just an ass looking for something to bitch about? (I’m guessing it is the 3rd).

Todd Heap will be the difference in this game. He pulled up with a hammy on the 1st play from scrimmage in Baltimore this year and would have been a mismatch for your weak ass secondary. He’s a great blocker too. This offense (and Joe in particular) know they can throw on your sad secondary and will make the plays that are needed to win. Bank on it!

    @iamthefootballjerk

“Apparently, this guy plays for the Steelers as he uses the word “us”.”

Every fan has the right to say “us” or “we” when talking about their favorite team. The fans are the most crucial part of every NFL team because without them, there is no team. A lot of fans pay good money to go to NFL games, or take time out to watch their teams play every week. This contribution is crucial to the NFL and every other sport. I don’t know why you have such a condescending attitude, but you have no right to propel your self above the rest of us in your eyes because you look down on football fans for referring to themselves and believing (rightfully so) that they are part of the team.

Also, when trying to make an argumentative point, it is best to not use those cute, and oh so clever nicknames for other teams, players or coaches. When other commenters with half a brain look at your comment with, Rapistberger, Unibrow, Squealers, Hairball or anything else like that, it just makes us think that you clearly aren’t objective and thus anything you say is devalued as pure bias. This may not always be the case, and the best way for your comment to be taken seriously and responded to (which I assume is the point because why else would you comment?) you should reframe from using those adorable pet names you have for players, teams, or coaches you don’t like.

The Ravens and their coach should worry about beating the Steelers IN THE PLAYOFFS since they were knocked out the last time they met in AFC championship game (as the Steelers went on to win their 6th ring). If I’m not mistaking I think the Steelers knocked them out of the playoffs the last two times they’ve met. So instead of praising shots to the head which should have been flagged and was correctly fined by the league worry about game planning a little better so you don’t get KNOCKED OUT AGAIN!!!

Any of you who went to college know there are some liberties you can take when teasing or joking with alum. There is no doubt in my mind college ties stay with people their whole lives. Harbaugh, although older, went to same school as Rothlisberger and was playing with him in his comments. If the whole story would have been reported by PFT you would know this.

And one other thing – people need to stop acting like they actually play for the Steelers or the Ravens. Too all the Ben “rapist” knuckleheads: If Ben raped that girl, he would be in jail…simple as that. The proof is always in the panties & there was none. That, coupled with her statements to a cop immidiately after the alleged attact that she was NOT “raped” & was NOT “assaulted” (story changed the next day) had more than just a little bit too do with the District Attorney’s office decision to not charge him for PROVEN baseless accusations from a slut (making out with a football player in a men’s bar bathroom more than justifies this clasification) & her money grubbing lawyers. Typical of the masses to just believe everything that is written by newspapers chasing sales at the expense of the world’s agony rather than research the truth & make a rational decision based on the facts.

@iwishiwasindc – Va Beach has been a great thing, I live in the Kempsville section as a matter of fact, got to love the military contracts. I am true to the core, like most Skins fans I’ve meet here, got to say, was at Fed Ex Field for the last Skins-Steelers meeting on a Monday night game a couple years ago, about as level headed fans as you could expect. Thanks for staying classy DC.

In context, it seemed like Harbaugh was saying he was glad that Ben broke his nose because he thought that meant he was coming out of the game.

That’s a huge compliment to Ben Roethlisberger.

Can’t wait for Saturday, all jacked up …

as for Ben owning the Ravens … didn’t look that sharp to me in the last game. the game changer was Palomalu not Ben. Suggs could not be stopped and was in Bens face all day. Ravens led for 55 minutes. Ben could not finish a single drive and was stopped in the red zone twice for FG. The only TD came after your D put it on 5 yard line.

As for the more talented team, donnu, can’t even name your second or third receiver without looking it up … certainly more talent and more pro-bowlers on the Ravens team. BUT the Steelers played at a more consitent level all year even though you got blown out at home by the Pats and lost total of 3 home games.

    The last three years:

    2010
    Steelers, 13-10
    Ravens, 17-14

    2009
    Steelers, 23-20
    Ravens, 20-17

    2008
    Steelers, 23-14
    Steelers, 13-9
    Steelers, 23-20

Steelers are clearly leading the series. Only one game was decided by more than a score, 4 of them by just a FG. This is as close as it can be. If this is not a rivalry I don’t know.

Baltimouth couldn’t beat Big Ben when he had a broken foot AND a broken nose. What the hell makes these delusional Ratbird fans think they can beat him when the dude can scramble and breathe at the same time??? Roethlisberger is 8-2 lifetime against the purple pansies and 6-0 in his last 6 meetings. No reason to expect anything different this weekend.

BTW, how many homicidal maniacs are on the Ravens squad these days? Are they up to 3 now, or are they still stuck on 2? What do you call a flock of crows? How appropriate.

Steelers by 10 on Saturday…that’s a “blowout” when these two hook up.

And I’m going to keep posting that the Ga. woman had a medical exam showing she didn’t have sex with anyone and the prosecutor also pointed out that in addition to not being able to prove penetration, he couldn’t prove anything occurred against her will since she publicly propositioned the guy all night.

    To dumbaseinstien:

Excellent post. A while back I read by far the most detailed article about Big Ben’s sordid past behavior and allegations, which I will link at the end of my post.

It is hardly an apologetic piece, and makes Roethlisberger out to be exactly what he was…a world-class asswipe jerk. But a rapist? Hardly.

That girl in Georgia was a ditzy drunk coed who was all giddy when she heard Big Ben was in town and she hunted him down wearing a DTF name tag. Hardly a nun type. Big Ben probably made some rude comment after he did her and she got all spiteful and cried “rape!” to get even…even though their consensual sex took place in a public restroom with cops standing outside the door and she coulda gotten help at any time. Rape, my ass.

And that other woman in Lake Tahoe was a total freak. She was going around the resort she worked at telling everyone she wanted to have Big Ben’s kid. Yeah, what a credible “victim” that looney tune was.

I think it’s hilarious that Ratbird fans make such stupid allegations when they cheer for players that dead bodies keep turning up nearby. What a bunch of pathetic hypocrites.

@deb You are being censored because I tried repeating something you had posted earlier and it was removed, twice. Anyway, you said you were going to post the facts, but you seem to be a little off. Ben was not accused of rape, thus, no sexual intercourse needed to be proven. He was accused of sexual assault, and no insertion at all needs to take place. You may want to get with your buddy CORNELLKID who thinks there was consentual sex and that the girl cried “rape”. No sex, it was proven, and nobody accused Ben of rape. Other than posters on PFT. It was sexual assault in GA. Which was thrown out due to lack of evidence. ***SOOO, get your own facts straight, hypocrites.***

Seems the only “fact” that is indisputable is that the Georgia coed is a freakin’ liar who doesn’t seem able to come up with a consistent story…

    From the SI story…

***Eventually the group landed at a club called Capital City, its fourth stop in town. There, in a curtained-off VIP area in the back, Roethlisberger bought shots for several women, some of whom reportedly admitted to Roethlisberger and Colon that they were not of legal drinking age. The 20-year-old GCSU student and others in her group of sorority sisters were wearing name tags of a sexual nature—the accuser’s read dtf, short for Down to F—. Witnesses said the woman was visibly intoxicated at Capital City, and one told police that the accuser had been “obsessed” with Roethlisberger’s arrival in town.

At around 1 a.m. Roethlisberger and the woman walked to a bathroom. The report filed by the Milledgeville police alleges that one of the bodyguards guided the woman toward the restroom by the shoulder; the bodyguards maintained to police that they had no knowledge of what happened between Roethlisberger and the woman. A source close to Roethlisberger said that he never intended to have intercourse and described his intentions as “Clinton sex,” or fellatio. But the female student told police that they did have intercourse, and that the 6’5″, 241-pound Roethlisberger used force.***

Allegedly had sex and used force…sounds like she essentially accused Big Ben of rape to me. But you keep playing semantics if you want to.

  149. Deb says: Jan 11, 2011 7:01 PM

    @1seriously1 …

I don’t know where you’re getting your information, but when the Milledgeville prosecutor, Fred Bright, addressed the media, he said that he wanted to make clear that the accusation they were investigation was vaginal rape and that was the only accusation they were investigating. In each of her varied statements, the Georgia woman accused Roethlisberger of vaginal rape and nothing else. The DA explained that for a charge of vaginal rape, he needed to be able to prove:

    1. penetration, and
    2. that it was against her will

    and he couldn’t prove either.

The medical exam showed that she didn’t have vaginal sex with anyone during that time period. As a rape survivor who has spent time with dozens of other rape survivors who have suffered all sorts of sex acts, I’m well aware of the variety of acts involve in sexual assault and I’m also careful to get my facts straight. If you’re trying to allege that this was an oral rape, the accuser did not once allege oral sex in any of her statements. She repeatedly insisted it was vaginal sex, which the examination showed did not happen. And there was also a lot of other evidence refuting her story and the ridiculous tale of the bodyguard blocking the doorway that was spun by her sorority sisters. The prosecutor said he hoped she and her sorority sisters had learned their lesson.

It’s clear that you haven’t read her written statement, watched her video statement, read the forensic reports, read the other witness statements, or listened to the prosecutor’s 71-minute press conference–which I’ve listened to more than half a dozen times. So you really have a lot of nerve telling me to get my facts straight and calling me a hypocrite when I’ve researched this case for months AND have a contact who worked the investigation. You’re just some IDIOT gossip-rag reader who didn’t bother to check a single fact before spouting off.

Following up on 1seriously1′s snarky comment …

According to the Georgia prosecutor, Ben and his accuser were alone together less than 10 minutes and her medical exam showed they didn’t have sex. So your theory of consensual sex gone wrong doesn’t work. In one of her statements she complained that he just dumped her in the bathroom and left without a word. My theory is they tried but were too drunk to manage it so he left … and she was a lil perturbed.

Read the SI article months ago. Agree with you. Love him on the field; off the field, he’s a jackass. Sure hope he’s making major character adjustments.

    To Deb…

My guess is that you have it exactly right. Big Ben probably left her in the lurch for whatever reason and she just went postal out of pure spite.

It’s terrible when women lie and falsely accuse men of rape or sexual assault because their egos are bruised or they’re just plain vindictive nutjobs. It only makes things that much more difficult for those women who are REAL victims of abuse…and it’s already hard enough for them as it is. That’s why I think that women who can be proven beyond a doubt to be lying about such crimes should be prosecuted harshly…like that lying witch who crashed the Duke lacrosse team and nearly ruined several innocent kids’ lives but I believe got off much too easy.

At any rate, let’s hope Roethlisberger’s pass selection Saturday is a lot better than his choice of women he hung out with in the past. From what I’ve read, this latest episode was a huge wakeup call for him and I’m optimistic that he has truly changed for the better. One can hope so, anyway.

    @iwishiwasindc … Thanks!

    @cornellkid …

Thanks :) After he refused to go back to their place to continue the party, one of her sorority sisters started ragging on him about the Nevada lawsuit and he threw her out of the party. She was the one that later dragged the accuser to the cops and insisted she was raped, and she and another sorority sister are the only ones who spun that tale about the bodyguard blocking the door. The DA said he hoped she and her sorority sisters had learned their lesson.

Definitely hope Ben has learned his. When you’ve already had a problem with one crazy woman, you should run from the girl wearing the DTF pin. Yeah, I wish they’d be prosecuted, too. My brother is a criminal defense lawyers and finally convinced me with one of his cases that women sometimes make up stuff like this for the nuttiest reasons. I’ve read up on it since then, and it’s a bizarre phenomenon that happens more than people realize. I agree about the Duke situation, but at least the DA won’t practice law again.

    @bunkmcnulty

“How many of you were ready to dump him in August?”

Doubt many if any at all. That was a creation of this site and others. I’m sure the occasional Steeler fan wanted or still wants Ben gone, but certainly not anything close to a majority.

As far as Ray Lewis goes, here are the facts. Ray Lewis (along with two other people) was arrested and indicted with murder charges. In exchange for testimony against the others charged, the charges against Lewis were dropped. The others charged with the crime were acquitted and the crime was never solved. Ray Lewis reached a settlement with the families of the men killed.

Not to take sides, but Ray Lewis is a lot closer to being a murderer then Ben Roe…Big Ben is to being a rapist.

But just to break it down in chart form:

    Ben: Accused
    Ray: Accused
    Ben: Not Charged
    Ray: Charged
    Ben: Civil Case Pending
    Ray: Reached Settlement
    Ben: Suspended 6 Games Initially
    Ray: Not Suspended

So basically I never want to hear a Ravens fan make any kind of statement that involves the words “Ben” and “rape” and any combination or variation of said words.

I didn’t mean to take this all out on you bunkmcnulty, but reading this thread frustrates me to no end.

  162. bunkmcnulty says: Jan 12, 2011 9:19 AM

    Mr. Disco,

I said Ben was not a rapist. Nor was Ray a murderer. Ray was charged and plead to obstruction. The prosecutor would not have made that plea deal if Ray did the murder. Come on!

You need to read my posts a few weeks ago on this same issue. Ray and Ben are guilty of the same thing, being rich spoiled athletes who make terrible decisions when they are young, either with what they are doing or who they are hanging out with, or both.

Ben unfortunately has put himself into to situations twice where he likely did nothing but create a window of opportunity for jilted one nighters. Thankfully, as far as we know, Ray never got into this type of aituation again. Personally I credit mentoring from Shannon Sharpe for that.

I think time has proven that Ray is a different person than when this happened 10 years ago. I said a few weeks back, only time will tell if Ben has. It looks like he is on the right path.

Mr. Disco, I was on your side on this. Yet I sense you still feel it is appropriate to call Ray a murderer. At least be objective enough to realize fans on both sides throw out these statements equally despite them being false.

By the way, I live near a bunch of Steeler fans (in Maryland) that were split in opinion on Ben in August. I did not rely on this site and who screams the loudest for my statement on that. Sorry if my personal experience with your coveted brethern provided me with a false sense of the way you, as a fan base, were feeling.

  163. somesome says: Jan 12, 2011 10:34 AM

Sorry Steeler fans, Ben has shown absolutely nothing that would suggest a blow out. He could not finish a single drive against the Ravens, two FG until your D put you on the 5 yard line.
Ben has not played any better than Flacco this year.
ou were trailing 10-6 until the 57 minute. Suggs was in Bens face all day.
You were unable in both games this year to stop Boldin.

At least you have the advantage of home field – oh wait you pooped on that too this year, lost 3 at home against the Ravens, Jets and the Pats massacre.

C’mon man … this game is going to be close, to predict a blow out is just fanboy drivle …

More interesting is the worst air time of all the divisional games. Since at least half the field is already seeded at the beginning just shows you what the rest of the Nation thinks about Pittsburgh in the playoffs either playing KC or Baltimore.

flacos stats this year 16 games
    TDS

    YDS
    3,622
    RTG
    93.6

    bens stats 12 games
    TDS
    17
    INT
    5
    YDS
    3,200
    RTG
    97.0

look at the yards alone for an example, ben probably woulda been at least second in the league in yards if it wasnt for his blunder.man get the facts before you compare players.flaco has a long way to go before you could ever compare the 2.

like i have seen stated in earlier posts if ben was in that 1st game there is no way ravens would have won it.you ravens almost got beat by an old man behind center, what makes you think they would have won that 1st game with one of the best QB’s in the nfl today

all things aside from bens off field problems, you cant take away that he is one of the best in the NFL and will be for along time.

oh one more thing.i remember seeign suggs running holding onto Ben near the end of the game, ben broken nose and foot and could not bring him down..lol

    @bunkmcnulty …

Don’t be against my stamina LOL When this story broke, I picked up a legion of PFT stalkers from hell who posted detailed descriptions of how I should be gang-raped on urine-soaked floors … how I’d sold out womenkind … and Steeler fans insisting I was trying to destroy the franchise. It was a swell time for a diehard Steelers fan who happens to be a real rape survivor. But I outlasted the lunatics and the recurring nightmares the whole thing stirred up. I’m a three-time cancer survivor, have had nearly 30 surgeries, and spent a few years writing in an overseas hot spot (which is where I was assaulted). So I have good endurance skills. But even so, yes, I’ll eventually get too bored to bother.

Actually, MSWRavens and I are pals, even though we don’t see eye to eye on everything :) And I have also posted on Ray’s innocence of the murder charge.

Completely agree with your assessment that both he and Ben were young, foolish, arrogant athletes making poor personal decisions. As I had hoped would happen when Ben hired Ed Garland, Ray has been mentoring him throughout the summer. What Ben most needs to do is grow up, and I hope Ray can be a positive influence in that process.

@1seriously1 … I have a life, too. Unfortunately, it includes prior assault experience, so I pay closer attention to such things than the average person. And since my life includes writing on medical and legal issues, researching such things comes easily. My brother and sis-in-law are criminal defense attorneys, and I’ve known people who were wrongly imprisoned. So Roethlisberger’s situation involved issues I follow even when they don’t impact the Steelers.

  167. herokravon says: Jan 12, 2011 12:54 PM

If Ben had not missed those two games the Ravens won in the last few years, I’m not sure this would be considered a rivalry.

I think it would be considered more along the lines of ownership.

@Deb … I do remember when the Ben in Georgia situation broke and plenty of the PFT followers were berating you. That is putting it nicely and your comments just now are actually kind of tame compared to many comments aimed at you. Keep kicking cancer’s ass. I do actually enjoy reading your replies. I just can’t stand that team you like so much. No, I am not a Baltimore fan.

  169. kimcon22000 says: Jan 12, 2011 1:02 PM

Rothlisberger is one tough dude. That said, neither of these 2 teams has what it takes to get to the Superbowl. Both fan bases are inbreeding at its worse …………….

  170. somesome says: Jan 12, 2011 2:06 PM

Ben has done nothing this year. you guys are just full of it. He could not get into the endzone against the Ravens. Ben is a far cry from being top elite QB, he is up their just solely for playing on athe Steeler’s team. you just need to lay off the coolaid. Didn’t you guys beat the Falcons with a backup QB but lost to NO, Jets and Pats with Ben?????

Ben is good but not great, playing on the Steelers team elevates his game, certainly not the other way around. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing that would indicate that you guys would have won the first game with Ben. the second game you guys had lost for 57 minutes WITH Ben who could not move the offense at all. Troy won the game not Ben and Troy played int he first game. We played without Ed in the first so you guys were at no disadvantage.

Flacco is only 6th QB to reach 10,000 yards in first three years and only the 4th to be in the playoffs every year for the first three.

There is nothing that elevates Ben’s play over Flacco’s this year.

Last year with Ben all year you guys did not even make the playoffs, Flacco did. i know last year was last year, old stats only count when it is six rings and the Ben is 6-0 against teh ravens.

Steeler fans are the most pathetic, twist every fact until it fits. Face it Thommy was pretty good, Dixon too and Kordell … on the Steelers team ….

  171. herokravon says: Jan 12, 2011 3:07 PM

    @ somesome.

    Pathetic.

“Ben is good but not great, playing on the Steelers team elevates his game, certainly not the other way around”

Have you forgotten so quickly the Ravens went and got Bouldin and Houshmanzadeh to help Joey because he wasnt good enough with the players he had?

  172. Steeler's Will says: Jan 12, 2011 3:46 PM

    @somesome

Relax, the game is this Saturday. It will be played then and only then, not a day sooner, you’re going to have to wait to see the outcome just like everyone else.

As for twisting facts until it fits…you’re doing everything you can to make Ben appear the inferior QB here. For example,

“Flacco is only 6th QB to reach 10,000 yards in first three years and only the 4th to be in the playoffs every year for the first three.”

Good for him. You seem very good with numbers. Now count how many rings all of Flacco’s success got him. Right. But ya know what? Doesn’t matter this Saturday. He gets another shot at the big leagues. I admit I’ll be a huge Ravens if they knock the Steelers out.

Be happy you have a QB that is improving with every game and can offensively lead your team for years to come. Then at the end of his career you can reflect back on it and cherish the memories.

    @1seriously1 …

Thank you :) Which team do you support?

  174. 1seriously1 says: Jan 12, 2011 4:40 PM

    @Deb

Lifetime fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Hence the hate and discontent towards the Steelers. I was there in the late 70′s for the SB beat downs.

  175. Deb says: Jan 12, 2011 5:22 PM

    @1seriously1 …

Ahhhh … that explains it. I became a fan as a kid with the ’78 season. Thought it would always be like that … and then came the 80s :) If it makes you feel better, we could win 100 Super Bowls and it will never make up for SBXXX. Broke my heart.

  176. urworstnitemare58 says: Jan 13, 2011 9:40 AM

    @Steeler’s Will,
Now you are forgetting one very important stat.
Who was the youngest QB to ever win a SB?

    @Deb,
I remember that game also. It was a heartbreaker.
I also think that it was the first time they gave the MVP to a player on both teams. Brown for the Cowboys and O’Donnell for the Cowboys, I mean the Steelers.

  177. cornellkid says: Jan 14, 2011 5:48 AM

Former Ravens head coach Billick picks the Steelers.

Former Ravens QB Dilfer picks the Steelers.

You all remember these guys…they were around when Baltimore won their lone fluke Lombardi Trophy.

Seems old Ratbirds are a lot smarter than the current ones.

  178. midgetbanger says: Jan 14, 2011 6:42 AM

Only thing Ray Lewis ever murdered was Mendenhall’s shoulder.

  179. urworstnitemare58 says: Jan 14, 2011 8:32 AM

don’t know about that. He sure does a great job of murdering that little dance he tries to do before every game.

  180. allanpwalrus says: Jan 14, 2011 5:04 PM

Cornellkid- You have got to be joking!

Guess the Ravens shouldn’t show up. BRIAN BILLICK and TRENT DILFER picked the Steelers. Not even worth making the trip now with such genius minds picking this game.

Honestly, you have got to be the biggest homer EVER!

Is there a single objective mind on these boards?

  181. cornellkid says: Jan 15, 2011 8:32 PM

***Honestly, you have got to be the biggest homer EVER!***

    Stuff it, Ratbird.

    http://twitpic.com/3pfkwx

And you can stuff yer stupid T-shirt, Suggs.

Ravens will NEVER win a Super Bowl with Flacco taking snaps.

  182. cornellkid says: Jan 15, 2011 8:39 PM

***Only thing Ray Lewis ever murdered was Mendenhall’s shoulder.***

Based on Rashard’s game-winning TD run, I’d say his shoulder has healed nicely, TYVM.

  183. steelernation1 says: Jan 15, 2011 9:58 PM

so wherre are all the trash talki8ng ravens fans now?officials did everything they could to help them

  184. no1dman43troy says: Jan 17, 2011 6:58 AM

The RATBIRDS have flown the coop. They run their mouths (like their no class team) then they get whooped by Big Ben and company (as usual) and now their GONE (like their team). Hey RATBIRDS get a new coach (who doesn’t cry on the sidelines and approve of cheap shots to a QB), and then get a new QB (who doesn’t CHOKE on his feathers when the pressure is on), and step up that OVERRATED defense, and we’ll see ya next year.

  185. bunkmcnulty says: Jan 21, 2011 9:59 AM

Funny. Take a comment thread that is stale to begin with and then start talking smack about where all the Ravens fans are. We’re not going away.

You all won fair and square. Talking about calls and stats are for losers. It’s all about the win, and we didn’t get it.

The black and yellow have been talking about calls more than Ravens fans. Understanding psychology, this leads one to believe you know the truth and are trying to make up for the inadequacies of the calls by trash talking about it. Far be it for you all to have a thinking man’s approach to things though.

Time to get back to class kids. You have studying to do.

  186. steelernation1 says: Jan 21, 2011 1:39 PM

wow bunk not only are u a ravens fan which is sad now you don’t even know what your colors are…..its black and gold u moron.if you are gonna make a comment at least get something right in the post

maybe you are the one that needs to go relearn colors yea?

  187. bunkmcnulty says: Jan 21, 2011 7:43 PM

    Steeler Nation (not #1)

Not even smart enough to recognize I purposely used the word yellow. I do it in all my Steeler posts. Yellow matches a lot of things relevant to the Steeler Nation.

    Who needs the schooling boy!

  188. bunkmcnulty says: Jan 21, 2011 7:58 PM

    Oh SteelerNation (not #1)

I remember you now. You were the mental giant that said (I am paraphrasing), “what’s all this talk about Brees? What has he done?”

I guess my beatdown advising you he won the Super Bowl last year wasn’t enough.

Please don’t make me print your exact quote. Although, it would be fun.

As I said, go back to class. You have no place giving opinions here. You set back the “Steeler Nation” immeasurably.

  189. steelernation1 says: Jan 22, 2011 2:02 AM

1 super bowl in how many years of his career..big deal..doesnt make him the list of greatest QB’s..

and bunk yellow has nothing to do with steeler nation.Pittsburgh colors always been black and gold it is also the color of there city flag.maybe u need schooled not me

  190. bunkmcnulty says: Jan 22, 2011 9:55 AM

Ok young man, you asked for it:

    steelernation1 says:
    Jan 13, 2011 6:54 PM
everyone talks brees up?what exactly has he done?he hasnt and cant win big games
    ____________________________

Two observations: 1. You are such a homer that you do not have the ability to fairly judge anyone not in black and yellow. Winning a SB just last year makes your comment monumentally stupid. 2. Didn’t Brees and his boys rip you all earlier this season?

I stand by my statement that you know nothing about football.

By the way, the Steeler’s “gold” as you call it is much closer to yellow than gold. Pretty much the exact color as an official’s flag. What color do we call penalty flags. You know, like the ones all over the field last Saturday night.

I am not giving you Gold. Definitely yellow! You all wear it sooooooo well.

1st period is starting. Don’t worry “snack time” is soon.

    Logo and uniforms
For more details on this topic, see Logos and uniforms of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
    The script logo.

The Steelers have used black and gold as their colors since the club’s inception, the lone exception being the 1943 season when they merged with the Philadelphia Eagles and formed the “Steagles”; the team’s colors at that time were green and white as a result of wearing Eagles uniforms. Originally, the team wore solid gold-colored helmets and black jerseys. Unique to Pittsburgh[citation needed], the Steelers’ black and gold colors are now shared by all major professional teams in the city, including the Pittsburgh Pirates in baseball and the Pittsburgh Penguins in hockey, and also the Pittsburgh Power of the reformed Arena Football League, and the Pittsburgh Passion of the Independent Women’s Football League. However, the Penguins currently use “Vegas Gold”, a color similar to metallic gold, and the Pirates’ gold is a darker mustard yellow-gold, while the Steelers “gold” is more of a bright canary yellow. Black and gold are also the colors of the city’s official flag.

now u idiot do you see anywhere in this that says YELLOW!!!! if u want the link for the facts i can give it to you.till you can prove to me that anything states that there colors are yellow keep your dam mouth shut.the facts are right there ..and far as brees goes 1 super borwl how many years did he play?along time.that does not make him the best QB in football…get a couple more and we will talk…as far as u knowing anything about the steelers u know jack.you just run your mouth cause thats all u can do.you dont got facts i was born and raised a steeler fan and know more of them than u will ever know..

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh_Steelers

theres the link save u the trouble of posting anymore dum comments back…now u tell me anywhere it states colors are yellow…you idiots say that cause sum rapper raised in pittsburgh says black and yellow which have nothing to do with pittsburgh sports he is talking about his car…

  192. 1seriously1 says: Jan 22, 2011 1:38 PM

    @steelernation1

    Let me see…. hmmmmm… i think… yes, i think I found it, by golly, I have it!!!

From your own post: “while the Steelers “gold” is more of a bright canary yellow.”

WAIT, let me make sure that was your question… “now u idiot do you see anywhere in this that says YELLOW!!!!”

Let’s see now… OH, you’ve got me. You asked for YELLOW, and the other is yellow. It’s the caps lock that got me.

Well, canary yellow is… well, YELLOW. Not gold. Just because you call it gold, does not make it gold. Your post actually backs up bunk’s argument.

  193. bunkmcnulty says: Jan 22, 2011 3:10 PM

    Steeler Nation –

The more you fight this the funnier it gets. Let me explain several things:
1.) You need to look up the word irreverance. I could care less if the “Bible” defines the Steeler colors as Black and Gold. I will continue to say Black and Yellow because it ticks you guys off. Yellow (to me) is more befitting your fan base.
2.) You can call the lighter color against your black anything you want. It looks yellow. Personally, the Saints secondary color is more of a gold. When you all waive those ridiculous women’s sanitary napkins around which I guess are supposed to be gold, they look like penalty flags – yellow. You can call them silver or pink or lavender, if it makes you feel better. They are yellow!
3.) I have read your posts online before. You really are not that bright. You really should stop a battle you cannot win. Your remark about Drew Brees was just dumb. Not to mention, a QB does not necessarily need to win a SB to be great. I guess Dan Marino (a western PA guy) must have been terrible too. You all think because your team has won 6 SB’s you all know more about football. Your steroid ridden team from the 70′s dominated. It becoming clearer why as time passes and more information comes out.

I appreciate 1seriously1 bringing even more of your words to the table. Must be tough swallowing all these stupid things you say.

The short bus will come on Monday morning. Relax and enjoy your game tomorrow.

  194. steelernation1 says: Jan 22, 2011 9:24 PM

well you all lack fan base knowledge.and because u r not a steeler fan i guess u can make an ass of yourself and think wut u want..see u after steelers win the super bowl..losers

oh and there was nothing steroid ridden about the steelers of the 70′s..they were just that good..so all u steeler haters keep on hating while the steelers keep on winning
