You can’t blame his terrible stats on “coming off the bench” when, 1, he started the season as the Eagles starter and 2, he played a good chunk of games back to back. He was annointed to be starter and he lost the job because he struggled this season!

Kolb had 7 interceptions in 189 attempts. Vick had 6 interceptions in 372 attempts. That’s twice as many interceptions per attempt. Vick finished 4th in the league as far as rating, earning a rating of 100.2. Kolb’s rating of 73.1 would have put him down at the bottom of the league, barely beating Brett Favre, Derek Anderson and Jimmy Clausen and being beaten by Chad Henne, Donovan McNabb, and Alex Smith.

And those people blaming Vick on the playoff defeat, you really need to look elsewhere. Blame a coaching staff that never established the run while playing the Packers who all season were defenseless against the run (but had one of the best passing defenses in the league). Blame an offensive line that was manhandled all season (Football outsiders rank the Philadelphia Offensive line 28th in the league when it comes to pass protection). Vick is the QB that he was always supposed to be, it’s up to the rest of the Philadelphia team to step it up if they want to get past the first round of the playoffs.

Interesting that Kolb didn’t have a good teacher, considering Vick has played the best ever and credits Reid and McNabb in turning his preparation positive.

Feeley. He certainly didn’t impress in more than a backup role, since it takes Kolb at least two games to get his legs under him. That’s two too many when you are talking about taking the team to the next level. Vick has certainly elevated his play, but the Eagles need a defensive overhaul, with a new coordinator, or at least the help of John Fox or someone with more than two years experience.

GMAFB. The Eagles lost because a dead Jim Johnson could outcoach Sean McDermott and the inability of the offensive line to do anything positive consistently. Sure Akers missed two FGs (inexcusable) but this doesn’t happen if Winston Justice does HIS job on that 3rd and 1 to Shady up the middle. Instead he stands there and let’s Clay come right inside of him and tackle McCoy.

If Kolb wants to leave? Fine. I don’t blame him, though the timing is in poor taste. Trade him to the Dolphins or 49ers or Arizona. We need the draft picks and hopefully they won’t screw them up this year.

The Eagles have basically communicated that “he’s not good enough to start” so why would a team give up so much to get him. Sure he did fine last year filling in for McNabb, but when he had a chance to play this year, he was up and down at best. I know it’s harder coming off the bench, but it’s not like he’s shown himself to be the next Joe Montana.

I think the Eagles are more likely to get a low 2nd or a 3rd round pick for him, honestly. It’s not like everyone is just lining deals with the sole purpose of making Philadelphia stronger. They are looking out for their own interests as well.

Because of the number of teams looking for a Quarterback this off-season (provided a lockout doesn’t prevent trades), Kolb is probably more valuable at this point as a trading block as opposed to being kept and letting Vick walk. Also, there are quite a few who consider Mike Kafka (whom the Eagles took in the 4th round in 2010) to be a better long-term solution at Quarterback anyway, so the Eagles may be better off re-signing Vick and trading Kolb, as noted possibly with their first rounder to the 49ers for the 49ers 1st and 2nd round picks.

But for anybody who thinks the dog-killer sociopath is the answer at qB, Exhibit A is the last 6 games of this season. He got hit and hurt, had little success recognizing blitz packages, and blew up under pressure (Vikings and Packer games) when winning really meant something.

And don’t discount karma, as long as any team employees Vick, bad things will follow.

@natelan: If McNabb was still the Eagles QB, they wouldn’t even have made the playoffs. There was a very good reason Reid dumped McNabb – he’s just not that good any more, and it was time to move on.
