Saints’ Thomas, Ivory to visit Dr. Anderson; Bush ailing

Two days after the Saints’ season came to an end, coach Sean Payton offered an update on his three running backs who are dealing with injuries.

Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune reports that Payton said Chris Ivory will undergo foot surgery with Dr. Robert Anderson and that Anderson will also evaluate Pierre Thomas’s ankle.

Payton also said Reggie Bush, who left the playoff loss to the Seahawks, wouldn’t have been able to return this week if the Saints had advanced in the playoffs. Payton said Bush would have had to miss 2-3 weeks. So Bush probably wouldn’t have been able to play again this postseason unless the Saints had reached the Super Bowl.

Of course, Bush might not play for the Saints ever again.

  1. Reggie Bush seems like he’s made of glass, which is consistent with the pundit’s fear the guy wouldn’t be able to take the pounding in the NFL.

  2. As a avid Saints fan, I like Bush, but not enough to keep him unless he plays for peanuts. His numbers are pretty bad but you can’t overlook the fact that even after 4 years in the league, he is still looked at as a major threat and is usually double covered. Defenses pay extra attention when he’s in the game, especially lined up as a receiver or returner.

  3. I don’t think Bush can be as effective as he once was. He never really broke off any great runs consistently this year. The injury seemed to have slowed him down a step. He gets paid too much for what he contributes. I would like to keep him on the team, but not in the same income bracket.
