Belichick tells the Patriots to zip it as he tries to move past 45-3

Bill Belichek

Rex Ryan is talking so much because that’s what he does.  He also wants to take attention away from his players and how they performed last time they played in Foxborough.

The Jets aren’t the only team that will have to work to forget the score last time.  The Patriots have a thin defensive line and a young defense that doesn’t have a lot of playoff experience.  Bill Belichick will want them to forget how easily the Patriots dispatched New York in Week 13.

For my early Divisional Round preview column on NBCSports.com,  I looked at one big storyline for each team.  For the Patriots, it’s Belichick’s challenge to make his young players realize the regular season mean very little now.

To that end, Belichick has basically told his team to zip it this week, according to Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald.

“I thought we’d get a few days before the banter starts. But it is what it is. Like I said last time, they take after their coach, we take after our coach,” tight end Alge Crumpler said.

I don’t necessarily buy this whole “Rexy Poo won’t shut up becaue he just wants to take the attention off his players” point of view.

The guy may be a defensive guru, but he has no clue about what makes a great head coach, he is desperate to grab the spotlight and has a raging inferiority complex which fits in perfectly with the Jets raging jealousy at all things Patriots.

The Jets lack of discipline has been clearly evident off the field as well as on. That is probably the biggest difference between the Jets and Pats, and why the Jets will never live up to their manic, self induced hype.

Just For Fun . . .by Bob Lavoie

A rare and exclusive interview of BB who I found in a small Irish Pub in the North End late one night:

Bob: Hey Bill how are you?
    BB: Good, thank you.

Bob: How do you respond to Rex Ryan’s comments?
BB: Well Bob, I don’t know anything about that – I’m just trying to get my team ready for Sunday’s game. But I do know that Ryan has enough hot air to launch the MetLife blimp. In fact I understand that the Jets will not need heaters to keep them warm on the sidelines. Rex will take care of that.

Bob: Talk about warm, how do you think Sanchez will perform here in New England’s cold weather?
BB: You know these warm weather boys, USC and all, he will be lucky to make it through the first quarter. He was certainly cold the last time we played against him. But it won’t be the cold that will make that little puppy pee on the field – our defense plans to eat him alive.

Bob: Is it true that Tom Brady missed the Jets Colts game Sunday?
BB: Well, Tom is smarter than I am. I tried to watch it but it was so pathetic, I fell asleep on the couch. I awoke at half time so I went out to wash my car. I did tape it though, but not for Tom or the team – I’m going to watch it again if I need some sleep. I want to add that Caldwell should beat me out for coach of the year.

Bob: What do you think of Ryan’s coaching habits?
BB: It’s a wonder that he has the time to coach at all with all the interviews he has been giving. He must have spent plenty of time on that HBO thing, what’s the name of it, Hard Nuts? He (Ryan) seems to spend a good amount of time making home movies and giving copies to his friends and family. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s nice of him but when does he coach?

Bob: He says Revis is the best in the NFL. What do you say?
BB: Best at what? We don’t think he can cover a jar of nuts.

Bob: How are you going to stop Tomlinson?
BB: Oh we don’t have to worry about that – we think he will pout on the sidelines when they bench him. He’ll probably keep his helmet on, to hide behind. He claims he has class but we watched all the tapes and we couldn’t find any.

Bob: Now Bill, you KNOW that this going to make bulletin board material?
BB: I don’t think we have to worry about that, the only guy that can READ on that team is on IR.

Bob: Bill how do you see this playing out Sunday?
BB: Well Bob, you’ll have to wait until Sunday – but I will tell you this – we know Rex Ryan will go down in de-FEET. (Smile on his face)

Wow…I can’t stop laughing! Belichick is telling his team to zip it??? Someone should be telling the Pats bandwagon fan group on this site to shut up. Richm, mistrezzrachael, tifpats…all of you were no where to be found in the first half of the season, and now you are turning every Jets/Ryan post into the day’s leader for most commented. Why do you have such an obsession with the NYJ??

The definition of irony: posts of “Rex Ryan won’t shut up”, “I don’t want to read anymore crap that Rex says”….90 TIMES per story. Guess what, brain surgeons…here comes 10 more stories. Keep posting, adn the stories keep coming!

MistrezzRachael, Your posts reek of a scorned woman with zero football knowledge. Please be patient…Rex will get around to answering your reply to his alt site ad.

Richm is Tom Brady’s dad, or he just has one helluva man crush. I have seen some of the rants you have gone on when Tom is attacked by another poster. Seriously, Rich…breathe deep and relax. Take some meds. Or, how about you turn off your computer once in a while and discover the great outdoors?! There is life beyond the keyboard and posting on PFT 50 times a day.

<>….this site used to be so good, too…

Give Rexy credit for 1 thing….He has taken media attention away from Sanchez…and his poor performances.

Nothing NE can say would stun us the same way rexys videos & ALT.com personal did…The guy is a closet perv..and fits in well with other jet fans….Think he enjoys licking the high heels too??? And Rexxxxy…what else would you like to do with those heels???…You tiger.

My definition of irony is someone who preaches to another how they should step away from the computer once in awhile, yet can name several posters and when they post, how often they post and what stories they post on. Are you taking your own advice to step away once in awhile?

Although I completely agree with your assessment of Richm… :-)

Here you have the once or twice daily meaningless post by PFT on the Patriots in order to elicit posts / site traffic from all the Pats /Jets fans and haters.

It’s funny that PFT has to do this since Jedi master BB give them hardly anything worthy of posting, and doesn’t flap his gums 5% as much as footmeister Ryan.

And yet, knowing this, I still must read / click / and post. Can Sunday please get here so Pats can (again) put an end to this?

  18. wtf__seriously says: Jan 11, 2011 2:35 PM

blackglass, giablommi, cubEbear54….I work full time during the day for a corporation whose network blocks my ability to post on blog sites (I can read them as plain text but can’t log on to post), so I am not able to post 10 times a day. You have me confused with someone else. I was on msnbc.com when eating lunch today, an article led me to PFT, which made me go through hell on my cell phone to make that one post go through. I have posted 3 times in the past week. Ed Reed’s brother, Sporano’s contract extension, and the post on this story.

I have been a Jets fan for over 15 years, and I would love to think the Jets can pull off the win this weekend. I always, however, post congrats to the other team’s fans the day after the Jets get a check in the L column (Miami, GB, the 2nd Pats game). It’s the adult thing to do. If the Pats win this weekend, you’ll see it.

“I have a whole bag of shush here with your name on it.”

I will say this, Ravens and Steeler fans are eerily quiet and playing very nice with one another. We Jets and Patriots fans are going to be totally rung out after this game is over.

Unfortunately in a few months as the flowers start to bloom the Red Headed Stepchildren fan base of the Jets will be getting their Paper Lombardis out to begin their 43rd year of fantasy.

Thinking back to one of the greatest moments in their franchise history when a drunken QB sat by poolside and predicted a victory. And his proudest moment with Suzy Kolber.

Mr Bill – what team are you a fan of?
The Patriots lost one game (the biggest of the year) after winning 18 games in that season.
In the past 10 years they have won 3 Super Bowls out of 4 appreanaces.

I don’tknow about you, but I’ve been posting here for about 3 years now. I’ve posted from the 18-1 season, through the 11-5 season, last year’s 10-6 team, and this year’s club. Been a Pats fan since the mid-60s from some incredibly crappy teams, right through the Belichick/Brady era. Have no idea what bandwagon you think I’ve jumped on. I was posting right along at the beginning of the year, don’t know where the hell YOU were.an’t help that my hometown team gives us a lot to talk about, my friend, most of it very good. Clearly this aggravates you Jets fans. Too bad.

By comparison, the Jets have done very little over the past 40 years, yet their fans talk and brag the loudest. Clearly this annoys the crap out of a majority of football fans, a witnessedby the endless posts already this week from people saying”I hate New England, but I hope they beat the crap out of the Jets to shut them all up!”.

  37. eddyjf says: Jan 12, 2011 6:17 AM

Each team is doing what they excel at.

Jets have won the super bowl, beat the Bears, Pats (2nd game)…, have the best player in the league.

Pats won 14 games and let their play dictate.

Just a different stategy, nothing more, nothing less.
