Jets lose Damien Woody for the postseason

fb7bf9_Woody_01212010

As the Jets prepared to face the Patriots in Foxboro during December, they suffered an unexpected season-ending loss to a key player on defense.

Now, as the Jets prepare for the rubber match on Sunday in New England, they’ve suffered an unexpected season-ending loss to a key player on offense.

Coach Rex Ryan announced moments ago that right tackle Damien Woody is out for the year with an Achilles’ tendon injury.

Woody missed the last three games of the regular season with a knee injury, but he started Saturday’s wild-card game against the Colts.

I hate most things about that scumbag organization, but Damien Woody is ok in my book. He plays hard, he doesn’t talk crap, and unlike most of the chuckles on that misfit team, Woody HAS a Super Bowl ring.

Too bad he won’t be getting one this year.

  2. packattack1967 says: Jan 12, 2011 2:32 PM

    he has a foot…

  3. ampats says: Jan 12, 2011 2:35 PM

Too bad Woody doesn’t get to play in the last game the Jets will play this season.

There will always be next season when the Jets start their 43rd Magical Mystery Tour of Lombardi Imperfection.

  4. bannedforlife says: Jan 12, 2011 2:35 PM

And an OK “D”just got better.

  5. commoncents says: Jan 12, 2011 2:37 PM

OOOh, thats too bad. I am sure the Jest fans will think that just isn’t fair. Maybe Vince Wilfork will pause at the line, and give the fill in blow hard sub a fair shot at blocking him, or maybe we should spot the already lame Jest Offense some points. I sure do hope Holmes is ok to go, and your special teams guy too. Oh, that’s right, Rex said it’s not about the players at all…

  6. mistrezzrachael says: Jan 12, 2011 2:37 PM

Agree w/Blackglass…Woody is one of the few jets that plays the game the right way…and more importantly, handles himself like a pro.

Too bad…but his season just ended a few days early. Woody won’t be there next season anyway.

  7. mistrezzrachael says: Jan 12, 2011 2:41 PM

Irony of this..is if NE had lost a very important player…jet fans would be walking around w/a woody…though no bigger than my pinky.

Never forget the day Brady got hurt in 2008…and all the jet fans in bar made A-holes of themselves cheering…Sad part was most of the female jet fans needed to turn sideways just to get into ladies room..they were large.

  8. grpatriot says: Jan 12, 2011 2:42 PM

Losing your starting R tackle??? QB throwing left handed in practice??? Cromartie starting a bleep storm??? A lot of question marks????

  9. lendoe says: Jan 12, 2011 2:44 PM

I sure hope the running game won’t miss a beat. This is a big loss both on and off the field. Big Wood has been huge but limited all year. Rob Turner has been a solid fill in and should be the rest of the way.
The guy i am concerned w/is Matt Slauson, can he get out in front of one of these screens for a change!

From a grateful Pats fan for having Woody on the
Pats O line for as long as they did . He was a damn good player for the Pats. Feel bad when a good dude like him goes down.

    He’ll be back.

  12. deanvernonwormer says: Jan 12, 2011 2:49 PM

You take Brady off this team the Patriots are an 8 win team at BEST.

Take Peyton Manning off the Colts and the Colts are a 4 win team.

Man to Man with the exception of the quarterback the Jets are a much better team than the Patriots.

Don’t expect the same result as the Monday Night Massacre. It’s just not happening this time around.
Pats should win but game can go either way depending on Sanchez.

What key player did the Jets lost on Defense?

    Offense, perhaps.

  15. patriotsworld says: Jan 12, 2011 3:02 PM

And where did Woody come from that he learned to handle himself like a pro???

  18. 7pints says: Jan 12, 2011 3:04 PM

Damien Woody just put his foot in Rex Ryan’s mouth. lol. Couldn’t happen to a classier franchise!

  19. stoney18 says: Jan 12, 2011 3:05 PM

Damien was a good player and has the right attitude …. of course, he learned that as a Patriot. He later left for bigger $$, but not greener pastures, in Detroit; but has labored in New Jesey for the past few years. Sorry to see him injured. Can’t imagine he hasn’t cautioned the blowhards down there, but they probably can’t hear him due to … you know …. blowing hard!

I dont know how you can say the Patriots are an 8 win team at best w/o Brady – not that that comment is even relevant to this weeks game – but the Patriots went 11-5 two years ago when Brady went down with his ACL injury.

Just face it – The New England Patriots are and always will be superior to your laughingstock all-talk YETS.

The Patriots are a MUCH better team man for man – position for position than the YETS.

  21. lendoe says: Jan 12, 2011 3:18 PM

This front-running PATS defense is a joke! I would love to see them defend without the cushion of a 24-0 lead.

    Sign, sign, everywhere a sign?
    Wood, bringing the wood, woodshed.

    Return of the castoff Woodhead.

    Opposite, unequal Woody

Ex-Pat who succumbed to evil Empire (state) dark side.

“This guy was in football because of the New York Jets.”
And the New York Jets are soon to be out of football because of Danny Woodhead.

  25. lendoe says: Jan 12, 2011 3:46 PM

While i hate to stand in the way of a good joke, Big Wood suffered an Achilles’ tendon injury, coach Rex Ryan is no Podiatrist :-)

  26. 8man says: Jan 12, 2011 3:50 PM

What? He was just on JRB. He seemed fine.

    @lendoe:
They are young, inexperienced and are vulnerable. That being said, they have consistantly improved. If there is any truth to the phrase “peaking at the right time” they may be doing it now.

Check out the stats for the “old” defense in big games. It was collapse city in the 4th quarter of all four Super Bowls and and AFC title game. As unpredictable as this young unit is, at least they won’t run out of gas.

  27. commoncents says: Jan 12, 2011 3:54 PM

Jets fans live in a fantasy land. Without brady…Without Belichick…Without a 24 point lead… How about this, the game is won on the field, not in the paper, and it’s a team game. Unfortunately for NY, your team and your coach and QB happen to suck.

  28. beefsbrother says: Jan 12, 2011 3:57 PM

Lucky for the Jets, the Pats don’t have much of a pass rush to start with.

Dean, as it was in the greatest movie of all time, so it is in real life: You’re an idiot.

Pats could easily win 10-12 games w/o Brady, they did it 2 seasons ago w/Cassel.

Plus, don’t forget: Brady is on the team and they will show the world how much of a tool Ryan and his merry band of White trashers are in real life

  38. patsfiend says: Jan 12, 2011 7:03 PM

How ironic that the one “respectable” guy on the J-E-T-S according to some people on here was drafted by and earned his chops with the Pats. In hindsight he probably wishes he stuck around for a couple more SuperBowls instead of getting paid a little more for those enjoyable years in Detroit.

I suppose it’s good though that the Pats infuse the Jets with a little bit of class in this manner, a la Curtis Martin (who would definitely be a “class” upgrade over Front-running pout-machine-stole-the-real-LT’s-nickname Tomlinson.)

There are plenty of respectable guys on the Jets I’m sure, they just aren’t the ones making headlines and driving traffic to PFT with their mindless blather.

I believe that zasto’s meandering, incoherent, run-on sentence shows an intelligence level typical of the steroid juicing, Long Island guido fan base that follows this afterthought of a team. All I have to say in response to his “taunt” that the Patriots only won their Super Bowls by 3 points apiece is this…1968! Have a nice day loser.

Jets are cool and collected? They seem rather nervous to me! The Pats seem cool and collected. They keep talking level about how they have to bring their best play, etc. etc. etc. boring stuff. They are the same all week, every week, level.

The Jets seem to have to come out and bring themselves into the limelight the week before. Hey, it is okay when you are winning, but you were blown out by this team last match. What you should be saying is “we got blown out last time. We are going back and fixing the stuff we can fix, and we hope for a different result this time. We need to bring our best, and I am sure we will.

Instead they are swearing, and saying how personal it is. All this energy bleeding out the week before. One wonders if they will have enough come game time. When you talk from behind it says you are frustrated and a bit scared of the outcome. The Jets are not calm and collected. They are nervous and a bit scared.

I am starting to think this may not be much of a game. And I am a bit scared that the Jets are going to resort to dirty play early in an effort to hurt key Patriots players. They have done it before, trying to hurt opposing gunners.
