One of the most talked-about Packers draft picks of the last five years seems to think his time in Green Bay is coming to an end.
“I enjoyed my opportunities here,” running back Brandon Jackson told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel this week. “And I really don’t know what’s going to happen. But if it’s here, hey, I’m glad to be here. If it’s somewhere else, then I’ll take it somewhere else.”
Jackson racked up over 1,000 yards from scrimmage this year, but was underwhelming as an every down back. Still, he’s caught 94 passes over the last three years and makes a solid third down back. He just had his most memorable moment on the team with his touchdown against the Eagles.
Jackson’s pass protection has improved over the years. Still, Rob Reischel writes that Jackson will “probably be somewhere else” next year.
“There’s been no communication between us whatsoever,” Jackson said about contact with the team about his future. “Is that frustrating? I don’t know. A little bit.”
James Starks and Ryan Grant could form a nice duo in 2011, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Jackson back. He likely has more value to Mike McCarthy than anyone else.
He’s right, he had plenty of opportunities to show the Packers what he is. And unfortunately he showed that he is nothing better than 3rd on the depth chart and not a starter in this league.
guys not a terrible back. just not an everydown starter. though i hope they keep him, hes a good kid
He is a great 3rd down back. And the screen game is better with him in there.
He’s a great third down back as a blocker, running threat, and receiver out of the backfield.
Use his talents to the team’s best advantage. The Packers are good at that.
I would keep him around. He’s a good all around back. He’s not flashy, but does the little things pretty well. Good receiver out of the backfield and picks up the blitz well.
Plus, there’s no guarantee that Grant will return to form and that Starks isn’t just a flash in the pan.
.
he hard core sucks as a running back and all things football.
what a slap in the face having to grab this dummy when grant went down.
Yea, don’t really get why you like starks over jackson. He only played in 4 games, 2 of which he did absolutely nothing. Had a decent first game and good game this past week. He hasn’t even gotten in the paint once yet.
And the writing says “Brandon you went way to high in the draft”
Probably will end up signing with the Vikings. They love the Pack’s leftovers.
Yeah keep him around. It’s that whole bird in the hand thing.
He’s the Packers’ best back with the screen, and picking up blitzes, just not a flashy runner.. pretty mediocre there.
He makes a good third down back. He catches well runs pretty well in space, but yeah, not an every down back.
Don’t be suprised that it is Ryan Grant and his $4,250,000 contract and only 2 injury free years, who is not back. The Starks, Jackson, Kuhn triumvirate may be the 1st 3 RB by committee since Csonka, Kiik, and Morris!
If he can be had a fair price of a 3rd down back I am sure TT will surely consider it. He is part of the reason Rodgers is so good on third downs with help picking up the blitz, Getting in space and picking up some 1sts.
While Starks only played a few games, and hasn’t scored and TDs, thats actually not what GB needs of him, they need him to run effectively which has done against the 9ers and Eagles, they wind up giving Kuhn most carries inside the 10 anyway, but GB has one of the better Red Zone offenses in the league.
I hope they can work out a fair deal, because Jackson does fit the West Coast offense, and thats why TT drafted him in the first place.
Another player the 49ers should make a play for. He’s a better option than Westbrook.
I don’t see GB drafting a RB this year. Jackson is still valuable in the 3rd down role and knows the pass protections. With Grant coming back next year, the emergence of Starks and Kuhn, I just don’t see the need to draft a RB and doubt we will go get one in FA.
I also don’t see a lot of teams blowing up Jackson’s agents phone, so he should come cheap and TT does love to re-sign his current players when he can get them at good value.
Despite our issues with the running game this year, I don’t see changes made in the backfield during the off season. Now the OL, that’s a different story.
He pretty much sucks. He’s too slow and not powerful enough. Maybe he blocks good on 3rd down or whatever but that isn’t enough for a veteran to make it in this league. They could easily replace him with something better and younger.
Jackson was never a starter at RB but he does a very good job catching the ball out of the backfield and in pass protection, so much so that I doubt they will get rid of him. If you look at how much it hurt the Vikings to get rid of Taylor without another 3rd down back in place you will see how much it hurts to loose a guy like that. Jackson has not done as much as Taylor did in 2009, just using him to illustrate the point.
What Grants injury showed was that they needed a “real” RB behind Grant. Maybe Starks can be that guy, but unless he gets to be really good in pass protection and catching the ball I don’t think he can replace Jackson.
I think it’s more likely to see Starks and Jackson team together next year rather than Grant and Starks.
Grant’s contract is huge next year and Jackson could be resigned for a reasonable amount. Ted Thompson has show that he is comfortable going with unproven backs.

uHHH…DUDE……the “ONLY” difference is that Csonka is a Hall of Famer and the other 2 guys were good sidekicks. I mean, this infatuation with starks now is laughable. The guy is OK at best. Falcons shut him down early and often.
falcons 27-13…..BOOK IT.
Your girl Erin will drop kick the game away, just like the cards playoff game last year!!!!
And what is that gay pistol thing that guy…err girl does? Really dude? It’s hilarous, and i would think, pretty “flambouyant” if u know what I mean?! Bang bang Erin….dude….does he even own a jock strap? Gayest thing EVER!!!!
