McDonald’s fires employee for letting Adrian Peterson use restroom

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson recently found himself out and needing to use the bathroom at 3 in the morning. So he went to a McDonald’s drive-through window.

An assistant manager saw Peterson, recognized him and let him in. But soon after that she was fired, apparently because her bosses found out that she let someone into the restaurant after hours.

“He’s a public figure. . . I know him better than some of the maintenance people that come in and out,” the woman told Consumerist. “I never thought in a million years that that decision was going to cost me my career.”

If it never occurred to her that she could get fired for letting someone use the bathroom, she apparently isn’t a fan of Curb Your Enthusiasm, on which Larry David once got a nanny fired for letting him inside to use the bathroom during an outdoor party.

However, there’s a happy ending: After the media caught wind of the story, McDonald’s gave the woman her job back.

    +++++++++++++++++

Not her job – her “career”.

Peterson should have given her a $50K tip if he had to go that bad.

  2. I actually side with McDonald’s on this. I used to run a McDonald’s as well as several other establishments. I have had instances where well known people wanted to come in and use the restroom after hours but as clearly stated in the handbook it is a fireable offense for security issues. Have i let people in? Yes. Did I do it at my own risk? Absolutely.

  3. Peterson should get her a job with the Vikings. An assistant manager from McDonalds is probably more qualified for a coaching position than some of the people Chilly had there.

  4. 3am and rocking the Mc’D drive-through with an overwhelming urge to pee? This guy needs to make better decisions, I want him to be a good guy but between this and the speeding I am afraid the next thing we are going to hear is about him getting a DUI or something.

  5. Adrian, hook her up. Some tickets or even some flowers. You can afford it.

    ——–

Why not 10 years worth of salary? Likes like 1/2 game check.

  6. this reminds me of that stupid commercial where the guy sitting poolside sees that hot chick as adrian peterson… except that it really was adrian peterson and he had to pee.

  7. Not really a story, but ( in the voice of the comic book guy on the Simpsons) “best headline ever.”

  8. As manager she is looked to for seeing company policy is followed. If the manager violates policy then what are the staff going to do when in a similar situation.
Do you violate policy only for celebs, or does everyone get the perk. If you think you’re letting just one in and five more follow what do you do? She jeopardized the safety of the entire staff.
It ended well this time, but what about the next celeb at 3:00 a.m. who has an intoxicated entourage who all feel entitled by their positions. It could ugly quickly and has disaster written all over it.
Policy is there for a reason and should be followed, especially by the manager.

  9. I’m not sure why everyone insists on calling him A.P.

His REAL nick name is A.D. Get it right people. If you think he likes being called A.P. just because the stupid media can’t get it right, you are wrong. His camp shirts even say A.D.

  10. As manager, she’s responsible for the safety of the employees on premises–that’s why the rules are in place. She shouldn’t have personal discretion to break those rules because she assumes the person seeking admittance is okay. This time it was Adrian Peterson. What if next time it’s an employee’s spouse who turns out to be unstable and violent? But it seems a reprimand would have made the point without terminating the manager.

As for Peterson … gas stations are usually built in close proximity to fast-food restaurants so he should have had better alternatives than a closed McDonald’s.

  11. Gas stations in cities don’t let you use the bathroom. And as someone who has managed for a few years now, it’s a joke that she still has a job. Allowing people inside your space when you are closed is a major safety and security issue.

Why did you ask and answer your own questions? When did people start interviewing themselfs?

  13. Corrected:

P.S. I had a funny crack about Hamburglar and Grimace in my last version–but apparently making innocuous jokes about fast-food cartoons with hilarious is just too intense for our wise and mighty censors/protectors

  14. Out at 3am and has to pee? I wonder why or where he had been? Lucky there were no cops around ordering french fries.

  15. Too bad she wasn’t a Packers fan and not opened the door…

She could’ve kept her “career” without all the drama in getting it back, and watched him take an AD (aromatic dump) in his pants at 3am, which would make a far better story.

  16. was it #1 or #2? ha no picks this week, the games are too close to call on the afc side. falcons beat the pack and seattle will beat the bears. ap is a nice guy I can brag I had him sign my football!! But with the new dorm they are in in mankato,mn most players head out the back door after showering to ditch the autograph seekers. Not a good reason to get us to go to training camp that is already too crowded at 9am.

  17. Okay…3am and going to a McDonald’s to take a piss is NOT typically a good thing…Fellas I am 27 and this has drunk as hell at 3am and probably shouldn’t be because I am a franchise RB for a NFL team (not to mention my fantasy keeper league) and I couldn’t hold my piss written all over it…Be smart All Day…

  18. It’s been a bad year in Minnesota.

Vikings in last place, Gas Bag Stadium with no parking lot and a hole in the roof, third round choice tossed away for Randy Moss, coach fired, no experienced quarterback on the roster, a third of the team unsigned for next season, StarCaps laying around all over the place …

and now, their best player … running around at 3:00 in the morning … when NOTHING GOOD ever happens … and porking down tasty McDonalds food.

    Nice.

Can’t wait for the 2011 season.

  19. Why didn’t he just get a large cup…oh wait you don’t want to fumble that in your car.AP Adrian PEEterson

  20. would she have gotten her job back if it had not been someone famous? What if it had been a grandma that had the need? What about a gang banger that had the need and didn’t rob the place after all? I don’t understand why the fact that AP is well known makes it wrong to fire her.

  21. I think we are all missing the bigger picture…
the breaking news is that Peterson was looking for a place to go in doors.

  22. It’s been a bad year in Minnesota.

    Well said………….

    Los Angeles Vikings 2012…….

  23. Instead of ripping on the assistant manager for her “career” shouldn’t we be ripping the actual manager for his ridiculous power trip? The guy must be a real winner…

  24. We all love happy endings!!!

Give Rexy Ryan a few toes…and whether or not you like it….you get a quick happy ending.

You mean to tell me there wasn’t a 24 hours gas station within 3 blocks of the McDonalds?

As Paul HArvey use to say…
    In a moment….the rrrest of the story…

  26. packerhater –

People answer their own questions all the time.
    For example:

Do people really still type “themselfs” instead of “themselves”?

Yes. And apparently they hate the Packers.

  27. Well, at least he wasn’t packing a Packer Pecker, ’cause if that were the case in Minneapolis at 3 a.m., the dude better have a Pecker Packer or at least a Pecker Protector.

And yes people, it’s A.D. as in All Day Peterson.

  28. Folks, this was in Eden Prairie. Anyone familiar with EP? Midwest shangri-la. This McDonald’s is on a connected parking pad to Eden Praire Center, our shopping mall. No super close gas stations nearby. But AP, I know what neighborhood you live in. You couldn’t make it less than 3 miles down the road?

  29. Maybe Peterson suffers from irritable bowel syndromme? That would explain all his speeding tickets as well as this latest incident. He does live really close to that McDonalds according to a source article.
