"Glauber says the league office has told players to keep the trash talk 'outside the white lines.' In other words, any yapping that occurs once the game starts could result in penalties and/or fines."

Considering that most spectators cannot hear any trash talk during the game, then I don't see why this is an issue.

Instead, they should try to reduce the amount of trash talk that happens the week leading up to the game; or at least, make sure that the players & coaches aren't spouting off vulgarities like calling Brady and "a$$hole". That's not trash talk, that's just being a pr!ck.

"King reports that executive V.P. of football operations Ray Anderson contacted all eight remaining teams late in the week with a warning to “respect the game” and to cut down on the trash talk"

Memo to NFL: Trash talking has always been part of the game itself. What is reported in the press is mellow compared to what is traded on the field. Trash talking to the media is the players effort at exposing what baffoons the media really is. It is the media that reports what is said on Twitter accounts. The NFL is not going to shape social network behavior.

Trash talk is one thing, but threatening to hurt someone so they can not play anymore is quite another. i think the league should start handing out suspensions.

oh i just love to hear people complain about SBXL...could the officiating have been better? yes, but the same could be said about just about every game. i have yet to hear any explanation as to why the league would want to help the steelers win the game.
face it, the seahawks screwed themselves with poor clock management (guess that was the ref's fault), a missed field goal (guess a ref put a tack in his shoe), jerame stevens dropping passes (ref must've yelled "i got it" and distracted him), and you know like i know that D. Jax created space with his arm (if he didnt, why did Ike recoil? he doesnt have to knock him down for it to be PI btw. he did the same thing that Roddy white did this year against the ravens and everyone whined that it was PI, so stop whining about it), and let me guess, the refs tripped the seattle defenders on the 75 yd run?
i can go on if you like, just let me know...

this came from a seahawks PLAYER. pay special attention to his final two sentences:
"I had a word with him and told him I really appreciated it," said defensive tackle Craig Terrill, a backup on that Super Bowl team. "I certainly don't have any hard feelings against him (Leavy). There were plenty of things we did in that game that kept us from winning. He can't take responsibility for the mistakes we made, but I appreciated it."

I think the league has it backwards. I don't care to hear smack talk like Cromartie's, but Welker's is fine. And as far as on the field smack talk is concerned, as long as the refs don't hear a player say something like, "I'm gonna rape yo momma after I (bleep) your wife in the (bleep)," it's fine. Who cares about on-field trash talking? I don't want my team to win or lose a game because of a 15-yard trash talking penalty. But I also don't need to hear stories like, "Tom Brady is an a-- hole, f--- him." You're backwards NFL.

This is all part of the Jets and their fans inferiority complex to both the Giants, Giants fans, Patriots, and Patriots fans. Maybe they should go about their business and actually get to a Super Bowl and that will make a statement rather than constantly yap and make themselves and the league look foolish.
