The Jets will be without one of their best playmakers when they take on the Patriots today in New England.

Brad Smith, the Jets’ versatile return man/receiver/running back/Wildcat quarterback, is inactive.

That’s a major blow for the Jets, who will now turn to Antonio Cromartie as their kickoff returner and likely scrap a lot of the gadget plays that involve Smith taking the snap.

The Jets’ other inactives are third quarterback Kellen Clemens, running back John Conner, tight end Jeff Cumberland, defensive end Marcus Dixon, defensive end Vernon Gholston, defensive tackle Jarron Gilbert and Matthew Mulligan.

The Patriots’ inactives are defensive back Tony Carter, running back Thomas Clayton, tackle Mark LeVoir, linebacker Marques Murrell, guard Rich Ohrnberger, receiver Taylor Price, defensive tackle Myron Pryor and running back Fred Taylor.
