You are correct Mooch. However the only reason I referenced Ivy's is lots of kids get to go because they earn their way in.. No its not a SB Ring. But it's a symbol of accomplishment out of the norm. Say like MIT. You seem to be aware of these schools. Also like a Doctor hangs his shingle. Its special something earned. The point I was making is ....Does anyone believe that all Laurie wants is the money? Hey I couild be wrong but, my opinion is that he wants that accomplisment of leadership and decesion that he would enjoy. The things I mention have to be earned and are difficult to accomplish. Thats why they have Rings. I think Mr. Laurie wants to accomplish winning a SB. Andy proclaims McDermott will be back. A week later he's fired. My best guess is that Mr. Laurie made that call. I don't think Reid is back after 2011 if he doesn't win or come darn close. If its me I get Cowher now while he is avail. Reid had 12 years. But if you guys are happy being 6th best every year.....you got Andy.

I think from my posts it's clear I agree with you 100%.

My last post is because I can point about tons of cases where Ivy League rings were bought. W at Yale or Trump at Wharton are classic examples. And 100's of legacies get in every year over more deserving candidates.

If I buy Princeton a new building, my name goes on it and my kids and grandkids get into Princeton. It's not exactly a secret.

Now, one can argue that Yale made a smart investment with W, as he later became President. But that doesn't change that someone like him gets in first and foremost as a legacy.

I place a SB title as a far great accomplishment.

By the way for McDermott, I have never seen or heard so many excuses for a out right failure. To much for him because he followed Jim J. Give me a break. The Green Bay--Eagles game the commentator said"it looks like McDermott is having trouble getting the right personal on the field" sounds to me like a nice way of saying he doesn't know what he's doing. He was horrible. Most TD passes given up in Eagles history. 80% success rate against us in the Red Zone. The worst in all football. The facts are the facts and the fact is he was HORRIBLE. Every team in football has to deal with injuries. We also had some darn good players on that defense, including a couple of all pros. My opinion is that we'd be playing this coming Sunday if it wasn't for him.

What I mean is If you want something anything that you have to earn you should do what it takes to get it. That ring for whatever reason, World Series, Stanley Cup Special college it is the sign of accomplishment. You want to wear that pride. Point being....Laurie wants one just like Jerry Jones and all the deserving Football,Hockey, Basketball, Baseball, high educaional degree you pick it. ITS THE ACCOMPLISHMENT SYMBOL. So I ask you mooch if you owned the Eagles would your goal be to win The Super Bowl or come in 5th or 6th best every single year? Finally if Mr. Laurie wants to win The super bowl.....Andy ain't gettin done.....ever

Dear Tryytheveac I agree with you on most. However you are selling the Super Bowl Ring short. Its what those involved at that level are in it for. Rememebr T He might be A Billionaire but, he can't buy a Super Bowl Ring. Yes I think he wants one real bad. Guys like him always want what they can't have. Like a kid that would like a Ivy League Ring. You can't buy one. Like Laurie youd have to go out and earn it. I think that Andy has only so much talent and I might add, is very stubborn. Runs the ball 12 times. Heck he has the running back that had more yards from scrimmage than any other and owned a 5.2 rushing avg. Same thing every year. Perhaps, just perhaps Mr. Laurie is sick of it. GET COWHER

And can we get past this "getting to a SB is nearly impossible" nonsense?

Since Reid came onto the scene, the following has happened:

WON LOST

New Orleans Chicago
Pittsburgh Arizona
NYG Philadelphia
Indianapolis Seattle
New England Carolina
Tampa Oakland
St. Louis Tennessee
Baltimore Atlanta
Denver

Teams that made it: 17
Teams that won it: 9

So, since Reid has been in the league OVER 50% OF NFL TEAMS HAVE MADE THE SUPERBOWL.

OVER 50%!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nine teams, about a QUARTER OF THE TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE, has won a trophy over that span.

So stop acting like the SB is not a realistic goal, especially for a supposed 'great' coach.

Another point for Cowher, towards the end the feeling was that the Steelers were perennial favorites edging closer to their goal.

I'm not sure anyone sees the Eagles as inching closer. Do you really believe our defense is fixable in 1 or even 2 seasons? Because I don't think it is. And, given Reid's track record in the draft and the team's history of impact FA signings, it isn't realistic to expect such a quick turnaround.

We need 3 more playmakers on defense. Minimum.

OK, so we'll give Reid 16 years.

But I just think at the end of that you'll be asking for 4 more.

And no, I have no idea why Fisher is still coaching down there.

As for Cowher, I think there's a difference between losing to the teams he lost to and the teams the Eagles lost to (Tampa, Carolina).

Are there any coaches in pro history who were given 13 years at one spot without a championship?

Other then the fans Andy is the worst thing in Philly Football

McNabb could not win the big one now its the only thing that has stayed the same in all the years of egals choking is Jabba the Coach

It was TO it was McNabb we need WR's we need a mobile QB got all that and you got zip zero in the post season
The only thing that is remembered in the long run is number of SB wins and for the Egals that is zero
Meanwhile the rest of the NFC east has each have at least 3 trophies
Andy is the problem and as long as that fat slob is still coaching the team is doomed to failure

fmwarner,

I disagree with your theory, because in the case of the Eagles the impact of making the payoffs has not been cumulative.

Anyone else, the team gets there first and loses the game it should lose (like we did to the Rams). Then it gets better and starts winning those games. Then it wins it all.

The Patriots and Steelers built toward that. The Ravens and Jets are building towards that now.

But every year I look at the team and say it's no better than the team that we lost to in the playoffs.

Every year I see the same weaknesses and mistakes. Same penalties. Same letdowns. And it never gets fixed. We're treading water, not building towards anything.

I imagine you look at the Ravens, NY Giants and Tampa title teams and think a team can get hot and win it all out nowhere. It can't. Those teams had FAR better defenses than we do.

"Mooch, I know you didn’t ask me, but if Reid keeps up his rate of getting to the playoffs, my answer to that question is “forever”."

Two questions (and I do not know the answer, not trying to insult you):

1) Are you an Eagles fan
2) Do you live in the Phila metro area
3) What age range are you

I have a theory on this.

Unless you are Lurie, I don't see how anyone could accept your statement. Hey, if I was Lurie, I'd never fire him. But I'm a fan.

To me, the playoff appearance becomes irrelevant the second you get eliminated. No one remembers it after a few years. It's meaningless. Like the time you almost hooked up with the hot chick. Do you sit back later in life and relive that moment? Nope, you probably forgot about it in a week.

Mooch, I know you didn't ask me, but if Reid keeps up his rate of getting to the playoffs, my answer to that question is "forever".

According to pro-football-reference.com, exactly 14 coaches in the entire history of the NFL have gotten to the playoffs more than the 9 times Reid has. ALL of them have coached more years than he has. And of those 14, exactly ONE has done better than Reid's 75% playoff rate (Tony Dungy).

So to me, the question is...if you fire Reid, who are you going to get that is this historically successful? What are the chances that the guy you hire becomes one of those 14 guys? When people call for Reid to be fired, they never consider that it's very unlikely his successor will do better.

I'm as frustrated as any Eagles fan, and there are things I don't like at all about the way Reid coaches. But I believe that to a certain degree, winning in the playoffs is a crapshoot. The list of teams who have played in the Super Bowl appears to bear that out. And Andy Reid gives his team more rolls at the craps table than almost any coach in history.
