Bart Scott says non-Jets can’t act like Jets

Jets linebackers Bart Scott has had enough of people making fun of his head coach.  And Scott, who rarely refrains from expressing his opinions, unloaded after Sunday night’s game on those who would criticize or take pot shots at Rex Ryan.

I love him,” Scott told Albert Breer of NFL Network regarding the man who showed up at Scott’s house as the clock struck twelve at midnight on the first day of free agency in 2009 to lure Scott from Baltimore to New York.

“I’m so tired of seeing people taking shots at him.  It’s one thing to criticize his coaching ability, his time management, but when people go at his weight, stupid stuff like that?  I’ve never seen anyone go at [Mike] Holmgren, never seen anyone go at Romeo Crennel, never seen anyone go at Andy Reid.

“But everyone thinks his weight, and that type of stuff is comical.  It’s free game.  You don’t see that on the back page about other people.  What part of the game does that have to do with anything?  Judge the man by what he does in his profession.  I can look at anybody and find something to criticize physically.”

Part of the reason for the jokes and the back pages is that Ryan operates in a city that has multiple daily tabloids that try to craft compelling back pages.  And Ryan invites the scrutiny with a gregarious, brash personality that loves attention.

Scott seems to realize this — and he seems to think that the Jets own the legal rights to being edgy and controversial.  Consider his remarks regarding Patriots receiver Wes Welker’s foot-filled press conference.

“It was out of character,” Scott said, per Breer.  “That’s not what he does.  It takes a lot of balls to put that out there.  What happens is you put a bull’s-eye on yourself, everyone wants to see you put your foot in your mouth.”  (Scott probably didn’t intend that one.)

“And now he gets the opportunity to step out of character, tries to be us.  There’s enough New York Jets in the world, we don’t need anyone else trying to copy our blueprint.”

To summarize, it’s OK for the Jets to make wisecracks or personal attacks, because that’s what they do.  But players from teams who don’t do that, aren’t allowed to start.

Maybe the concussion problem is a lot worse than anyone realizes.

  1. The world is rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday. All this yapping from a team that hasn’t won jack since the 60’s.

  2. Yeah Bart, he wasn’t even close to being like a Jet. Welker’s press conference was witty and amusing, two words that are never, ever associated with the Jets.

  3. Bart Scott = one of the many people who owes Ray Lewis $ for making him look good. The man is an obscene idiot and mediocre player.

Justice will be served Sunday in Pittsburgh. There is no way karma lets these disgusting, vile pigs win the Super Bowl.

  4. Bart Scott is a complete D BAG. He is as fake as a 3 dollar bill. He said he would take Welkers head off and his days were numbered in a uniform? Oh really? After the game, he said the same thing. I am sure after the next game it will be the same thing. Your a clown

  5. “There’s enough New York Jets in the world, we don’t need anyone else trying to copy our blueprint.”

“our blueprint”??? Acting like uneducated, adolescent trailer trash has been going on throughout America for decades before Ryan came to the Jets.

  6. I think Bart is the only one who really feels this way. When asked why the Jets were so hostile to Welker after they had been trash-talking all week, Damien Woody said this on his Twitter: “actually I think guys got a kick out of it w/ Bart being the exception”

Although Scott is a complete idiot, I he reflects what most of the Jets think.

Although Scott is a complete idiot, I don’t think he reflects what most of the Jets think.

  8. The reason people make fun of Ryan’s weight and not the other fellows is the other fellows do not talk so much crap. Both sexy rexy and barf scott are huge POS. Oh yeah drop some weight tubby. F Bart Scott!

  9. Bart Scott says:

“I’ve never seen anyone go at [Mike] Holmgren, never seen anyone go at Romeo Crennel, never seen anyone go at Andy Reid.”

That’s because the guys you mentioned don’t act like a-holes.

  10. Dear Haters,

Keep talking. Keep watching. Keep the Jets on the back-page.

Did you see Sanchez in the Pepsi commercial? Did you drink(buy) a Pepsi?

    Keep up the good work.

Apparently Belichick found it neither witty nor amusing.

How long have you worked in the Bengals front office?

  13. I’ve never seen such a mediocre player run his yap so much. Leave the yapping to players who actually had an impact in the game (a whopping two tackles is hardly an impact) like Revis or Ellis. What a joke Bart Scott is. I guarantee in retrospect the jets wished they signed ray lewis instead of Scott….even though he’s much older he still produces, something Scott hasn’t done all year.

  14. Hey Bart… If The Jets win the Super Bowl, your coach will still be a fat, toe slobbing douche. I can’t believe I just got lectured by this turd on professional conduct.

  15. I’d love to see him put his foot in his mouth, Scott has that right… I just don’t want to see him put his wife’s foot in his mouth!

I’ve got a great idea, since the Jets only have 4 starting WRs and probably at least 5 positions. Isn’t Plaxico coming back soon? He would be perfect for the JETS…

  16. I really dislike Bart Scott … but he has a valid point about the weight issue. People were targeting Ryan’s weight from the moment he arrived in New York. Otherwise, though, Ryan invites the tabloid coverage with his outlandish comments and by willingly serving up intimate details of his life online. And he seems to enjoy the publicity–good and bad–even if it bothers some of his players.

  17. I’m trying hard to respect the Jets for what they did yesterday, but crap like this is making it hard.

Dude, you WON. Shut up already.

  18. Bart sez:

“I’ve never seen anyone go at [Mike] Holmgren, never seen anyone go at Romeo Crennel, never seen anyone go at Andy Reid.”

Then you’ve never read a paper in GB/Milwaukee, Cleveland, or Philadelphia.

  19. I’ve often wondered how a coach with the generous proportion of a Rex Ryan, Andy Reid, Charlie Weis, etc can possibly get on his players for being “out of shape.” I mean, it has to happen, right?

How is it thathe head coach is in charge of making sure these guys are in elite physical condition as he peruses the buffet line?

  20. Blueprint? What blueprint? Talk trash and slander someone and when they reply portray yourself as the victim. Rush Limbaugh created that SOP years ago.

  21. I’m a Browns fan and I hate to say it, but I’ll be rooting for the Steelers this weekend. Someone needs to shut these Jets up.

  22. Dear Haters that are clearly dominating ths forum…Move on! We all know that if you aren’t Jets fans you hate Rex Ryan and the Jets. Guess what? He’s a great coach! 4-1 in the postseason, all on the road. 2 straight trips to the AFC championship. You cannot deny the success of the Jets, you may not like their style, but clearly it is working. Rex may talk a lot, but most of what he says is true folks, deal with it! And Bart, along with the rest of the guys, would go through a wall for their coach, and that is what you want.

and Pats fans…newsflash…he never insulted Tom Brady. He practically threw roses at your head coach, calling him “the greatest coach in the history of the game” sorry Pats fans, I guess that were Rex was talking crap. So he said that Brady gets help with gameplanning from his coach. Is that really that big of an insult? Come on now! Sorry we don’t go around kissing the feet of the Pats. Rex said over and over again that the Pats are a great football team. Is that where we were talking crap?

Maybe so judging on the way you guys played yesterday. Nice attempt at a comeback in the 4th quarter by the way Pats. I think that drive took about 3 weeks and came away with no points! That was well done. Good judgement by Patrick Cheung on the fake punt. Maybe you guys should worry less about what Rex and the Jets say, and more about losing your last 3 playoff games. Your time is over and the Jets time is now.

  23. I really cant believe most of these comments. Actually thats not true, i can believe them but only because I have spent time on this site prior.

I dont understand people on here. The jets with ryan and scott have gone to 2 straight AFC champ games. They are now 4-1 in the playoffs.

No other team in the championship round was there last year. There is something to be said for that.

Regardless if they win or lose next week, that is really good. Ryan is a really good coach, thats the bottom line. His first signing was Scott because Scott is a great player in his system. Its not about the numbers people. Its about doing what the coach needs you to do.

Ryan and co cannot be blamed for previous jet failures. You understand how it makes no sense to blame him for those right?

Bart Scott is a Suggs wanna be? Suggs plays OLB, Scott ILB.

Never seen a mediocre player who yapps alot? Have you ever watched football? Fred Smoot? Freddie Mitchell..this brings me to the next post…

Really comparing B Scott to F. Mitchell? Scott was the hand picked starting ILB for Rex Ryan’s D. Which was ranked number 1 last year and is once again in the afc champ game…

People need to grow up. I was rooting for the Pats too.

  24. Say what you want about Bart Scott……One thing is for sure, his interview on the field after the game was a classic, definite top ten

  25. Ryan pokes fun at his own weight. Are you gonna go after him too Bart?
Every single player who has talked the most ridiculous smack and who has acted the most butthurt were all douches before Rex got them (Holmes, Edwards, LaComplainian, Comartie and Scott, though he was with RR in Balt).
I’m a Pats fan who is still devastated and I actually think that Rex, besides a teeny swipe at Brady postgame, was pretty gracious after the game in the remarks I heard. Too bad we can’t say the same for some of the douchenozzles who play for him.

  26. “Justice will be served Sunday in Pittsburgh. There is no way karma lets these disgusting, vile pigs win the Super Bowl.”

Sorry. seventh Super Bowl isnt happening. A new team will be crowned. The ratings will be at all-time low if Pitt goes again. The Jets-Pats ratings pretty much says that a major media market team WILL be going to Dallas, regardless of Pittsburgh’s defense with Polamalu. This team beat Manning, Brady and Rothlisberger is next. No team is going to back to back AFC title games and losing. You saw the Seahawk game, home field means nothing.

  27. “I’ve never seen anyone go at [Mike] Holmgren, never seen anyone go at Romeo Crennel, never seen anyone go at Andy Reid.”

Actually, Eric Smith took his head off with that decal destroying hit.

  29. I don’t like the steelers but I hope they kill the jets this Sunday. Jets are a bunch of big mouth bush-leaguers

  30. Hey Bart – SHUT UP!!!! So glad your big a$$ mouth isn’t in Baltimore anymore.

Look up Ed Hartwell and Adalius Thomas if you want to know what happened to LB’s who thought they were god when they left the shadow of Ray Lewis.

    Let’s see:

Bart Scott: 59 tackles, 22 assist, 1 sack.
Ray Lewis: 102 tackles, 37 assist, 2 sacks

Can’t even compete with a 35 year old linebacker. Wow! I think the Jets are paying for your MOUTH not your PLAY.

  31. I’m pretty sure Andy Ried gets it for being fat. Maybe not in the media media as much, but look at the comments on any post about the Eagles. Not Andy, but the Eagles. I’m pretty sure that there will be a Mr. Winkey reference in there somewhere. At least the inability to view it without the use of a mirror. Or some other type of tool. You kno, a handy, useful object.

  32. Bart Scott has a big ego and a mouth to go with it. He is wrong about the whole Wes foot thing. Big deal, Wes had some fun and paid the price. As far as the fat jokes from the media, that’s flat wrong and usually frowned upon in most circles. I myself refrain from such talk because I am above it. Just because Rex talks a big game does not open the door for such talk. We should all hold ourselves to a higher standard, media foremost. That being said, Rex has placed himself, The Jets, and The NFL in a better place with all that talk, judging by the ratings. Boxing has been doing that thing for ratings forever.

  33. Once again Bart Scott showing his ignorance. No one takes shots at Andy Reid and Romeo Crennel because they don’t open their mouth Like Rex fat ass Ryan. This Bart Scott Guy is an idiot and plays into every stereotyope there is.

    And Boulware and Sharper.

  35. Who is Bart Scott again?? Oh yeah, the guy Ray Lewis took under his wing from a nobody on the practice squad and developed into a pro-bowl player… Settle down Bart and remember where you came from and the long journey you had to get there.

And since I hate both of these AFC teams, go Packers.

  36. “I’ve never seen anyone go at [Mike] Holmgren, never seen anyone go at Romeo Crennel, never seen anyone go at Andy Reid.”

Maybe because those three aren’t blowhards that live to hear themselves talk and call attention to themselves?

  37. oh my lord look at all the jet haters out there i LOVE IT keep on talking, Where is your team ?????? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha LOSERS

  38. Well we did see that Welker get slapped down by belichick for trying to be a comedian. He probably should keep his mouth shut playing for NE.

It’s funny that people think anyone cares that you are rooting against the Jets. It doesn’t matter!

  39. Not everybody cheers for the same team but it seems obvious, everyone seems to cheer against the loudmouth jets.

  40. As a Patriots fan, I generally am inclined to cheer for whatever squad knocks my team out of the playoffs (an admittedly regular occurrance these days). The Jets played better, deserved to win, so be it. Despite my loathing and utter contempt for Jets fans, they were for the most part civil and restrained at Gillette on Sunday.

The Jets team, however, is just so unlikable from top to bottom that I would frankly rather see Pittsburgh win a 7th title and listen to “sevenburgh” nonsense than to have any more of the filth coming from the swamps of Jersey be validated. Come on Pittsburgh, please humble these insufferable blowhards.

  44. Really The whole world will be cheering for the Steelers on Sunday I don’t know about you but that is a little biased. I know for a fact most 49ers fans won’t. How about cowboys fans, I’m sure they all want the steelers to own 2 more trophies than them.

  45. Bart Scott threatened to kill Hines Ward. Bart Scott threatened harm to Wes Welker.

Bart Scott isn’t right in the head.
Hines Ward will knock the snot out of the hypocrite Scott.

Good point Deb you are correct. Everyone always wants to talk about Ben, but nothing was proved and he wasn’t arrested for rape. Same can’t be said for Sanchez. In April 2006, Sanchez was arrested after a female USC student accused him of sexual assault. Not a Steelers fan, but I hope you guys crush the Jets. The whole team is a bunch of chest thumping, trash talking thugs. Hoping Green Bay wins it all.
