first off, we are talking about recent times here, not 30 years ago. the Raiders were once a great franchise, before i was born. they have been pretty crappy since. what have i said that is wrong? Al Davis is the reason why the team was great and hes the reason why they suck now. he has had different coaches, regimes, players, etc. whats the common denominator? him. the Raiders brand is a joke now, ask anybody. its not wrong or right, it just is. im sorry if you cannot grasp current times. his teams suck year in and year out for the majority of the last 20 some odd years and the circus that surrounds the team is even worse. the press conference to introduce Jackson lasted about 90 min. most of that time was Davis speaking badly about the coach he just let go, with the new coach sitting next to him….same thing happened last time…and the time before that…

where does the Raiders franchise stand right now? what is your damn point?

what does it matter what team i support? the subject is Al Davis and the Raiders. im not ashamed of the team i root for, but you can figure that team out for yourself. im a realist, and if my team bad then i call it like i see it.

How do i stand it? No team in the AFC West has been to the superbowl since 2002 and that was us. But most of all i stand it, because I believe in the ideology and philosophy of the team, how it is built, and what it truly represents.

So, Mr. Chico State jorrnalism, are you a 49ers fan, or just ashamed to admit you are a Raiders fan? I’m not clear how you can describe the Raider’s history so badly when half the teams in the league would love to have such history. Ask Texans and Jaguars fans what they’d trade for a 9-7 record, or a playoff berth. Bills fans have gone longer since they got to the Super Bowl, and they never won. For that matter, how ’bout dem Vikings? Sure, none of these teams have the embarrassment of watching their team’s owner dissolve into such mental frailty. Yes, they have really sucked the last several years. Show me a team that hasn’t had down years. If you are so near-sited as to forget what the Raiders have meant to the league, or what Al Davis has done for the NFL, you are a kid with no grip on where the league came from.

I hate the Raiders, and I think Al Davis has become a joke. But I can’t stand for such an ignorant insult to a man who has done so much for the league.

So true that Cable was a scum bag. He just wasn’t any more so at the end of the season than at the beginning. If that was the real reason Al fired him, he waited a lot longer than any rational person investing millions in something would have waited. What we have left is an owner who hated his coach and didn’t want to pay him for firing him early. Then he used the fact he’s a scum bag to justify his cost-daving decision. It’s just too contrived.

your team stands for losing. the logo and the name stands for being a laughingstock…and did i mention, losing?

pull your heads out your asses. your team hasnt won a Super Bowl in almost 30 years. none of you that are under 30 have experienced any winning except a few non losing seasons and a Super Bowl loss. how many times have you made the playoffs since your last SB? 8 times in the last 27 years. your team makes the playoffs once every 3-4 years and has nothing to show for it except 1 AFC championship in that time.

so why do Raider fans keep talking about history when their history is terrible since their last Super bowl victory?

At least as a Raider fan I know what I’m rooting for. Im rooting for an ideology that is entrenched in the organization and not ever-changing with each new GM you hire. We stand for the counter-culture, the man defense, the speed on the outside, the athletes. You have no idea what your team stands for because it changes all the time.

The contract basically reads, Al Davis controls everything the head coach and assistant coaches do and that he can fine, fire, or with hold pay with or without cause. Basically anything a coach does that Al Davis does not agree with can be viewed as Breach of Contract and can result in loss of pay. Coaches read this, understand this and they still agree to sign it. Even better is coaches leave organizations like Baltimore (Hue Jackson, Al Saunders and Pagano) to run and sign that very contract.

You left out the part about the spinectomy all Raider head coaches must undergo. That’s why no real coach will ever take that job – they’re just a proxy for Al.

He had every right to fire Cable after the Hanson incident, AND the girlfriend smacking incident. If you remember – the Raiders were dragged into pending lawsuits by both accusers and both incidents were well publicized.

And lets not forget, going 6-0 in the division and 2-6 outside the division is squandering a potentially great team. Tom shouldn’t be proud of this.

Hue Jackson made this team better, not Tom Cable. If Hue wasn’t around, this team woul be 5-11 again. Hue will be a great coach, and Al is still a great owner, so leave the man alone. After all, hes got 3 Lombardis to prove it, what does your owner have?

Give me a break….After AL was done talking about Hue Jackson he told the press he would answer any question they had about Cable. AL answers every single question and you guys have a problem with that?
Did you here about all the legal cost for the Hanson incident? The Domestic voilience incident legal fees? and the issue that occured when Cable would bring his girlfriend on team trips……Cable’s last statment on his way out the door”they cant call us losers anymore” didnt sit well with most,especially a owner than wants to win and put’s money into his team.

I dunno if you could tell, but clearly Al loves the Raiders and their success is of huge importance to him. And clearly he’s playing things loose at this point of his life, and doing what he wants. That’s all it is. So what if he’s gone a little flaky. At his age he’s earned the privilege. He’s a human being not a convenient target for all the vitriol one can blindly summon within themselves.
