This is called the “rumor mill” for a reason, so take this post for what it’s worth.

WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan in Boston has two different sources that say Tom Brady suffered a foot injury either before the Jets game or during the contest. One of the sources says Brady has a fractured foot, although they note the sources aren’t close to Brady.

Brady said on Monday he didn’t think his exit physical would go well, but he sounded like he was half-joking to avoid playing in the Pro Bowl.

The possible Brady injury is an interesting talking point, but it’s hard to put a ton of stock in the report because the hosts stress the news is “unconfirmed.” Moreover, there are scores of talented journalists that cover the team on a daily basis that haven’t even hinted at the news. A radio station, like a rumor mill, doesn’t play by the same guidelines as a daily newspaper.

That doesn’t mean the report is necessarily wrong. The Patriots denied Brady’s broken ribs all last year and it eventually came out he did indeed play through those injuries.

If the radio station is hearing something, it’s very likely that other folks in town are hearing the same thing. They haven’t gone with it.

It will be interesting to see if that changes in the coming days.

UPDATE: Tom Curran of Comcast Sports New England notes Brady’s foot issue first popped up in November, but that all indications are that he was fine in he playoff game.

“When you watch Brady dance, slide, pivot and pirouette in the pocket as he did Sunday against the Jets, it’s impossible to say with a straight face that his foot prevented him from being effective Sunday. The Jets did that,” Curran writes.

“Brady’s problem wasn’t his foot. It was was about 75 inches north of that. “

Well said.
