President Obama said Wednesday that if his hometown Bears are in the Super Bowl, he’ll be there, too -- which would make him the first sitting president to attend.
“Oh, if the Bears are in the Super Bowl, we’re going,” Obama said.
It wasn’t clear whether Obama was making a firm commitment to attend or if he was just making a joke about how excited he was about the Bears. But if he goes, he’ll be doing something no president has done.
A sitting president has never attended the Super Bowl, but three sitting vice presidents have attended: Al Gore in 1994, George H.W. Bush in 1982 and Spiro Agnew in 1971.
