Jason Michael ended the 2010 season as the quarterbacks coach in San Francisco. He’ll now be coaching tight ends in San Diego.
Michael began the year as an offensive assistant with the Niners. Once the team fired offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye and promoted quarterbacks coach Mike Johnson into the job, Michael was bumped up.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to add Jason to our staff,” coach Norv Turner said in a team-issued release. “He brings a good, balanced offensive background. He’s worked with tight ends and he’s worked with quarterbacks.”
Michael, 32, worked for Turner in 2005, when Turner was head coach of the Raiders. Michael also has worked for the Jets (2006-07) and the University of Tennessee (2003-04, 2008).
Michael replaces Rob Chudzinski, who become the new offensive coordinator in Carolina. Chudzinski and Carolina head coach Ron Rivera spent two years together in San Diego.
